Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom 🎂🎉 Oh and watch Part 2: ruclips.net/video/F952bSrtB6w/видео.html
Questions & Tips on Renting a Tesla via Hertz in Europe...
One of the questions I've been asked is if you need a special drivers license as an American driving in Europe?? Most countries you don't like Germany, but there are a handful including Poland where you do need what's called an International Driver's Permit. You can get one for $20 in 15 minutes from any AAA location.
A few other notes about renting... Same $200 deposit on a credit card just like the States. Supercharging is paid by Hertz, but then deducted from your deposit upon return. Traffic tickets are also billed to Hertz and then charged to your card on file.
Make sure to check your mileage before and after by taking a photo. Also take some quick photos/video of the inside/outside of the car and when you return it, make sure to return it with at least 70% battery and take a picture with your phone when exiting the car. They tried charging me around $170 for supposedly returning it with less than 70%. Luckily I had photos & video that were time-stamped and had geo-location showing I returned it with 98%. After waiting on hold for a while was refunded for the charge. So always take photos of everything. I can't stress that enough.

Was so much fun to meet you and chat. In the city where I lived half my life. And you mum is mega cool!
Bersteland is the probably worst SuC location of all. Sometimes stopped there in the past but it is in the middle of nowhere, no restaurant, not even a nice toilet. 😂
Kostmoloty is a very good stop, I use it all the time when going to Poznan and Warsaw for work. It is easy to pronounce for an American : "Kostomwoty". Germany have trouble because it is peonounced like the English W and the Germans pronounce that as a V 😂

Hi Bryan, great that you visited Europe, but next time you should do a longer road trip. There's so much to see. At example, I did a road trip in autumn 2021 with my then new Model 3: Started in Germany over Vienna (Austra), Bratislava (Slovakia), Györ, Budapest, Szeged (Hungary), Timisoara (Romania), Belgrade, Nis (Serbia), Pristina, Przeren (Kosovo), Tirana (Albania), Podgorica (Montenegro), Ferry to Italy and then over Rome and Pisa and over the Alps back home. A mountain pass is much fun to drive with an Tesla.
The Serbs are very proud of Nikola Tesla. There is a statue in Belgrade, a Museum with all his documents and also his funerary urn.
Charing was also no problem. I charged mostly with 11 kW and also for free, because on a road trip you have time. After sightseeing the battery was mostly on 100 %.

The Europe early model S used a European plug called a Mennekes Type 2 charging port, but reinforced it for higher power to allow Supercharging. They gave it up when Europe required use of CCS and they offered a retrofit to anyone who wanted to switch their car to CCS

I remember when I took a 1 1/2 drive to the Fremont Factory to get a glimpse of the new model 3.. and I was so happy to find 3 of them in the parking lot. I was driving a Chevy Volt back then and had one reserved. I thought it looked amazing, but then when it first came out they were about $60k .. just not the $35,000 car I thought it would be and I bought a used p85 for $49k instead. I loved that car. and put 121,000 miles on it before selling it during the pandemic when used car prices went crazy and now I drive a model Y. Today there is a $35,000 model 3 :)

So happy for your mom; my mother was born overseas as well, so I know how much it means for them to go back "home." Thinking of renting a Tesla in France next time we go, and this is giving me a lot of confidence that it's doable and pretty straightforward. Not being stressed about having the correct chip and pin card at unmanned gas stations will be a huge relief, ha. Thanks again, Bryan, loved this and can't wait for the next one!

Thank you so much! Yeah, we had so much fun driving through the countryside. I felt like the highways were in much better shape than the US and there was virtually zero trash on the roads which is a far cry from what I see here. Driving was actually not an issue after getting over the initial nervousness. If the steering wheel is on the normal side and driving is as well... you'll be fine 👍🏻 Can't wait to hear about how driving in France is 😀

@@bryanhauer Drove in the UK a few times and it is definitely beyond nerve-wracking, lol. Takes a couple of days to get used to for sure. Like your experience, the tiny, narrow town center roads were a little terrifying, and figuring out the unmanned toll system in France was loads of fun when they used to be exact change, all coins only. It's part of the adventure, though, and totally worth it to get out there and explore. You also get some good, "remember when we got stuck at that toll booth" stories, which admittedly are a lot funnier now than at the time, lol. 😊

I also, after watching many of your videos, purchased a Yakima 1600 roof-top box (black) for my black Model Y long range. I haven't mounted it yet. However, I recently noticed you removed yours. Was it due to noise, reduced mileage, or both?

    • @bryanhauer

@@jonrico7937 I mainly just like trying new things and am sometimes sent these products by companies to test (although I'll never promote a product I don't already use and love), but I will say that while I love the look of the rooftop box, the range reduction and noise was annoying at times. It didn't really affect my trips too much, but again I like tinkering with my setup constantly so am just trying something new. Both the rooftop and rear cargo boxes are great options. For instance if you want to put on a bike rack, you can, but I can't as I'm already close to my hitch weight limit for racks/cargo boxes. Pros and cons to both.
