Thank you!! I live where 96 to 100 is not uncommon with high humidity. And unfortunately going naked is Not an option. I've asked many what yarn is best and noone ever answers...so thank you! I mostly use Loops and Threads Cambria yarn.721 yds, 200 gr #2 . It is acrylic, but my go to for summer tops which the tank top I am making I am using sz8 or 5mm needles even though recommended is 2.75mm or sz2 and its loose but not holey.
Cotton bamboo yarn is also a great choice.

Sonia Figueroa 😎 I love inHouston where the hot months are April thru Nov. I use a lot of bamboo yarn ( shop on line at Hobuim) I use linen yarns and cotton yarns. Shop on line at Knit Picks website for soft cottons

Great and informative video. Thanks for talking about yarns that are smooth and not fuzzy- I'm new to crochet and have a bunch of yarns, and I only enjoy using ones that are not fuzzy. Do you have a video or a list of yarns that are less fuzzy than others? That would be enormously helpful!
Hi Gabriella! Yes, the blog post that goes along with this video lists all the yarns mentioned. Those are some of my favorite summer yarns, but there are lots more out there. I would suggest just feeling the strand of yarn to see how you like the amount of fuzz in it. Many yarns that you'll find available that are similar in texture and fiber content to the yarns mentioned in the video will also work well. I hope this helps!

Yes, since we don't have access to craft stores (due to Covid19 they are closed), I poke around online and quickly get overwhelmed by the hundreds of different yarns! It feels like I need to try out different brands and different types every time I order and hope I like what arrives! Your video gave me a starting point, which is so helpful!

Hi Roxanne! I think it would depend on the top you want to make. I have a knitted sweater in Caron Simply Soft, and it does not breathe enough for warm weather. However, if your top is made in an open, lacy stitch pattern, it might work for you. Hope this helps!
Yay For Yarn It’s a boho bralette type of thing. I bought the pattern and to my surprise Simply Soft was used. After seeing your post I’m now second guessing if maybe 100% would be best.

Hi! If you are concerned about the fabric stretching out, I would suggest using a plant fiber blend. Maybe one that contained part plant fiber and part acrylic or something else that does retain its shape a little better. Hope this helps!
Hi Roxanne! If you would feel more comfortable using a cotton yarn, then you could do that if you want. If I were choosing between Simply Soft and 100% cotton, I think the cotton would be a "safer" choice. However, that's not to say that the Simply Soft wouldn't work. Hope this helps!
While cotton is the best for summer garments I don't use it because it tends to absorb moisture...
Wore a cute cotton summer top on a humid 95 degree day and it just sagged, lol...
what yarns are best for swimwear? I hear that cotton is more breathable but I also researched that cotton absorbs water a ton and that it can get heavy. However, acrylic isn't as breathable. Does anyone have any advice on this?
Hi Lily. I have never made swimwear, so I don't know for sure what type of fiber would be best. However, I would think that thinner yarns would create a fabric that dries more quickly. You might look into trying this yarn from Ice Yarns: bit.ly/3MuWQmR It is designed for swimwear, made from water-resistant polyamide. I hope this helps!

Hi! I personally have never made a bathing suit, but the ones that I have seen are usually made of cotton yarn. It needs to be something that can get wet and retain its color. Hope this helps!
Can I use t shirt yarn for summer
Hi. That would depend on how thick your t shirt yarn is. Many t shirt yarns are very thick and would not be suitable for summer garments. If you have a thin t shirt yarn, that could work for summer garments if you use a loose gauge or an open stitch pattern. I hope this helps!
Hello can you recommend a nice comfortable yarn to make a chemo cap my friend's daughter who's 16 was just diagnosed with leukemia, I want to make her some chemo caps and maybe your shawl cuz she gets cold easy any suggestions. And you have any patterns for chemo caps and shoals
Renee Goldberg I used to make chemo caps for cancer patients. It was important to me to ask each person what colors they liked. All the people I met, said 100% cotton was the most comfortable for their sensitive skin. I made several with three strands of crochet cotton held together in SC. This way I could use the three colors held together. I let each person select their colors and feel the crochet cotton before I made them. Once I met a young woman’s who decided to shave her head in support of her grandmother, so she requested matching off white caps.

hi! I have a doubt...I want yarn that is not too stretchy so that my garments don't stretch when they worn on a daily basis. I need the yarn to be in such a way that the size of the cloth stays intact and dont expand... please suggest me the type of yarn I want! please!
Hi. The stitch pattern that you are using, and the size of your stitches, will affect how much the fabric stretches just as much as the yarn you are using. I would suggest a strong, high-twist yarn, such as mercerized cotton. However, many stitch patterns will still produce a stretchy fabric, no matter what yarn you are using. So considering your stitch pattern and gauge would be more important than the yarn you are using. I hope this helps!
What yarn would be recommended for knitting t shirts?
I would recommend a lightweight, low-fuzz yarn in a #2 Fine or #1 Superfine thickness. I hope this helps!

What's a combed cotton?

Wool in summer garments is not common, as most people think of wool as something to keep you warm. However, wool is a temperature-regulating fiber, so it can also be used in summer garments as long as a breathable, slightly more open stitch pattern is used, and the yarn is lightweight.
