Tilt is the hands-down winner in that group. Awesome design, USA-made, great materials, and good price for something so limited and prestigious. Dig it.
If the Demkos pull that price off, I will HAVE to buy one. They priced the armiger 4 perfectly. I HAD to buy one immediately and now I have 3 armigers.
the vosteed knives in elmax would be such good knives and good deals, except for the fact that SOMEHOW their heat treat is ranging 58-62 hrc. a 4 point variation in hrc is VERY concerning.
I like the blue corkscrew of the more affordable fial options, but the premium fial is looking really nice. I miss edc my wine key and this may be a possible option for wine key and ecd folder. Well done Columbia River
Fingers crossed for a "Slicer" blade version of the upcoming Demko Cub - I dig the enlarged thumb-opening, no need for the thumbstuds which would be a little more in the way on an already smaller blade!
Not gonna lie, I've been looking for a high end corkscrew for years. It's actually surprising to me that there aren't more knife companies making "waiter's helper" type leverage corkscrews, because it would be so much nicer to open an impressive bottle of wine with an impressive corkscrew, wouldn't it? The cheaper version will be just fine for me, it's got to be better than the typical plastic and pot metal dreck that passes for corkscrews in the general market. The longer blade of the Fial looks like it would be a great picnic tool, much better than a SAK, Opinel, or even the venerable and rare Leatherman Flair.
That is a cool knife. I have many different types of cork lifters, but by far the best and easiest is a 2-stage lever type. The first step gets the cork up about half way, then the longer part of the lever does the rest. Very easy!
@@eskee1That would seem very odd since the company they contracted with is known for high end corkscrews. I never saw anything about it being recalled, since they haven’t even sold them yet it would be hard to call it a recall. Do you have a trusted source that provided this information? Micarta, a lot of it, is not expensive at all. I can buy it for less than 10, just imagine what knife companies get it in bulk for. Tired of the markup over craplastic. I've seen some rational prices for Micarta versions but I also see significant markups by other companies.
Im interested in the shark cub and the CJRB Version I think? I can't find any information on the CJRB version however. Unless I misheard it in the other video.
Hi DCA, Yes, that Boker Sleeve Dagger is SO COOL! That thing is just a self-defense SPIKE! i can't legally buy or carry that where I live now, and I hope I would never have to use it, but I sure wish I could get one! That would be my #1 choice from all the blades you highlighted in this video (although I really like the new double-integral Lion Steel as well!). I really like the knurling on the Boker Dagger's handle and the rounded butt cap for the thumb. Such a cool design! Also very nice for a concealed carry due the size and shape (need to see the sheath in the future). This is one of those knives that the teen-aged boy in all of us men says, "Oh heck yeah!" Thanks for another great review DCA!
Hi DCA. question... I understand how the metalurgy works carbides and stuff but what is the difference between normal steels vs powder vs spray... how are these things manufactured and why does it matter?
Regular steels are made in big chunks. Powder steels are tiny specs of steel sprayed into a chamber where they are basically welded together via melting. It allows a much smaller structure in the metal and also makes it more uniform, so it's more stable, with smaller carbides, which makes not tougher and holds a better edge. the smaller carbides get torn out of the blade edge, causing less overall blade damage. Larger carbides obviously leave larger holes when they tear out.
The Fial is very cool, I have the first three Prince customs designs (not the first serial #’s lol). But in defense of the Swiss Army knife, if you start to fold the tool closed as you pull up then the body of the knife acts as leverage and is actually quite easy for opening wine bottles.
DCA pointing out my current pet peeve with so many knives right now at 2:50... I finally feel heard! I hate "choils" to make room for the locks. Hate it!
I feel like the current pricing for Demko knives with the shark lock are overpriced to begin with if you look at what materials you’re getting. Surely you can’t charge that much for just the lock?
It also has a lot to do with them being made in Taiwan vs China. Taiwan is a capitolist market like the US so the manufacturing there comes with somewhat fair paid workers, and the costs/risk of running your own business in a free market. Very different from Chinese manufacturing.
DCA! You’re a champion of the southpaws and will forever appreciate your opinion. But a note on the compression lock, it is the least lefty friendly lock on the market. Making it button actuated changes that entirely.
Meh… I’m not seeing any “must have” knives in this group. Of course I didn’t really see any in your videos at the show either. I’m looking for a 9” Bowie right now. All the ones currently made miss out on the features I want in one. Most knife companies that make Bowie knives don’t understand what makes a good Bowie. Bill Bagwell came as close to a perfect Bowie knife as anyone has ever made. The Demko $50 Shark Cub is interesting though. I will probably pick one of those up for my sister in law.

12:00 so i got on the gmf1 train back in 2016 and i really wanted to love it but it remains the worst fixed blade i’ve ever owned. like the xl version looks good but here’s an honest question, is it pointy or not? because i swear the three giant mouse knife’s i have were the most rounded tips of any other knife i’ve ever seen new in box like maybe it’s by design because the rest of the knife of the gmf1 is pretty screwy like weird jimping and poopy handles which were made for midget teenage mutant turtles and not good balance in hand either just a really weird knife…. and now here’s the full size and you claim the ergos are good so is it pointy????
Did I miss something? Where's the footage of the other brands? Saw another channel covering a new colab edc fixie from Esee & Toor Knives in 3V. Thought you would also cover this. Unfortunately there is never enough time at the show for us to get to everyone. Sad I missed ESEE for sure, and did run into the ANV guys in the hotel, but sadly ran out of time to visit the booth this trip. Cheers! -DCA
I bought this knife because I like wine, but I have to say that the corkscrew isn’t great. The part that acts as the bolster is meant to rest on the lip of the bottle. So far, so good. The problem is that it should have a notch to catch onto the lip of the bottle, like all corkscrews of this type, but it doesn’t, so it slips off. That was a big disappointment because it’s not as effective or easy to use as French corkscrews. Another thing, the damn bottle opener is located near the knife blade, which makes it dangerous to open a beer since the knife has to be open to use it. Don’t buy that crap.
Hey y'all. Love the desire to polish the format, but your secondary close up angle is WAY too close. I like what you're going for, but it's both visually jarring and it's just not flattering for David as it primarily draws attention to his blinking. I would consider zooming it out to a high chest/shoulder framing. More production is not always better and, in this case, is the enemy of visual flow.

I would have killed for one of those Fial wine key folding knives back when I worked at an Italian restaurant. I bet it finds a solid niche market.
