I embarked halfway on a mountain in my latest fortress but apparently the forest had an aquafer, but the mountain did not. I've been ripping my hair out trying to find where the aquafer ends so I can get water to my fortress and this reveal command will help me out a lot!
Nice introduction. I've already been playing around with DFhack for a while but you introduced a few features I must've missed. One informational one I very much like is list-agreements which shows all agreements to make guilds/temples, since my ADD means I'll often get distracted and forget. In the same vein, autofarm for crop management is awesome, since the interface for that is still really finicky and I have a tendency to forget, and pairing it with seedwatch to automatically set/unset seeds for cooking past a threshold so you can keep enough for planting but get rid of excess is useful. Autochop is similarly good for keeping wood stockpiles filled but I'd say it's much less necessary. Autounsuspend is also brilliant since my dwarves keep suspending floor/wall builds because another dwarf was standing there! And after a siege a quick 'unforbid all' is nice for allowing the collection of items, bodies, ammo, etc. Quickfort and its related commands are also fantastic, especially for cutting out mass bedrooms! Much more usable than the macro system, since you can just point and click.
Super helpful video as a starting off point. DF hack was super intimidating in the original version (as was everything, lol). This video makes it clear that it's a pretty easy to use system in the new version and I'm going to be installing it before I play again. Thank you!
Thanks for the video and THANK GOD! I don't think I want to scroll through a list of 2000 different cloth items for 30 minutes just to dump those with an x in the name ever again. The game itself is amazing, but there is so much stuff that is just so unnecessarily convoluted, I just wish they would have put some of the DFHack features in the base game.
Great video, FurtherReading! I've been wanting to use DfHack to take cool screenshots with Stonesense and been patiently waiting for it to update. Thanks for the install guide! Keep up with the phenomenal videos!
This is going to help me out a lot more now! Trying to learn some basics of DFHack like the auto jobs, if only to let me focus on other aspects of learning the game lol
@FurtherReading Ive been Trying to learn how to do this and when I looked it up your video was top recommended and you explained it perfectly. Great job, King!
Not much working in this first alpha. Still great that they got it working that fast. I was expecting at least few months to see first signs of this, but they've done it faster.
Probably should have mentioned for all of the new players of dwarf fortress who have no experience with the old game that DFHack was super important as a sort of bridge for other programs to interface with the game unlocking a whole new level of functionality for those programs. This is huge because all external programs people used to make dwarf fortress easily playable relied on DFHack, with it back this could lead to a lot more quality of life stuff coming back. Also with modding being so easy now, there might be potential for mods to interface with DFHack and greatly increase the scope of what they can do, as they are a bit limited at the moment. This could be huge and new players should probably try to familiarize themselves with DFHack as it will likely play a significant role in the future.
Thanks for the very helpful video. Really appreciate it. I did find the background track a bit unsettling, the pouring was a bit much. Still dropped a like and sub coz I appreciate it all anyways.
Thanks a lot, i was doing a terrifying embark and wondering what i was doing wrong since no migrants were visiting. I guess the tons of enemies spawning filled my population cap way too quick. (3540 removed...)
That's the plan! I want to avoid videos where I'm basically just reading the docs so I'm looking at tools or collections of tools that could do with a demo and/or have some complex use cases.
Wasn't there a dfhack way of seeing the exact amounts of stone types and other resources prior to embark? It was sometimes useful for finding magma pipes because of the obsidian present.
I cant seam to get prioritize working for the Food the command example -a --haul-labour=Food,Body StoreItemInStockpile doesnt work also autodump I cant seam to make work
@mthanh @@FurtherReadingTV That's exactly what i was looking for too, AND there is an `orders` command, which lets you import/export the normal manager orders now! I just loaded up an old fort, exported and imported in a fresh embark. I had some errors about missing workshops, but overall, most of it seems to have worked (maybe those were just orders on a specific workshop in the old save). It probably would make sense to make a few separate order lists.for wood, stone, smelting and so on and then imported as needed for the new save.
Is there anyway where I can reveal just one specific floor? Can DFHack prevent mining designations from being cancelled due to it finding aquifers? There's this entire floor that I REALLY want to dig out and I don't want to keep redesignating the tile to be mined.

By the way, the fact this video's length is 13:37 was a total accident and not a 1337 Hacker reference.
1337 is a bit more about gaming culture then hackers imho, but I guess thats subjective. x)
@@Joyexer I might be showing my age here but 1337 comes from BBS hacker boards.

Can't wait for Automelt to get added

Very cool guide! It's a pity that the main functionality and commands were not all specified.
Autobutcher, my love is back !
Autobutcher is a game changer!
Will be an advanced dfhack tools tutorial?

Yup! This is embark-assist although I don't know if it's working in v50 yet.
Surely it should be "Hack the Earth!"

Hi , is there way to save(export)/load(import) Work orders ? Redo Work oders each new Fortress kinda overwhelm .
DFHack has its own work orders system which allows exporting and importing, but it's not working yet.

i think bucket of water can be emptied by use it to prepare food in kitchen sice water counts as cookable liquid afaik
Thank you!
FYI: 787 units removed with the dead-units fix. The list is actually readable now.
God bless you man!
Cheers mate!

nice, can you make a video about forgotten beast silk farming?
I would like to know a way to make an Angel colony 😢 i mean, or a create unit tutorial 😕 would like to tame them
*1337 Dwarf Fortress DF HACK Tutorial* Woo ! Hoo ! Now i can go dig a hole, diggy diggy hole!
Finally I can 100% automate my fortress to not play it in 5 fps
Will auto butcher spare pets?
Yup! It ignores any nicknamed animals, so pets or any animal you give a nickname to aren't counted.
ty, can finally clean those damn cabinets. will this improve fps?
Yeah I believe that can help with FPS death.
Can you please do a video on quickfort!!!!
yes, please! I'm a new player looking at using this to streamline some of the designing and the old videos are from years ago.
6300 food lol.
Your dwarves are eatin' good in the neighborhood.
In the past when using reveal if you unpaused the game you could never unreveal.
What is your accent?
I'm Irish! 🍀
