Yeah, I couldn't have not cried... Wash was so lovable.
"Did you notice that he threw you in the garbage?!"
"WHAAATEVER!!... Balls!"
best parts of the song xD
This is definitly my favourite song from Dr Horrible... Love it!
Okay, serious, new favorite part. XD
1:35
Doctor: Uhl!
Though, lacy gently wafting curtains is pretty much the best thing ever. ;3
Rip Firefly, Joss Whedon is a great director I would hope to see him revive firefly.
I freakin love that part, lol.
"it's curtains for you dr. horrible.
lacy, gently wafting curtains"
Lol, he actually uses the "Horrible Van Remote" app. I find that really funny.
Many years of practice at being evil. It's also one of the abilities you need to join the Evil League of Evil.
Dr. Horrible's epic outfit change. x3
It's like someone did a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" for superhero comics--complete with the cheesy-campy 70's vibe.
0:53 would've been the perfect spot for a Wilhem Scream
@Bodici22 Hahaha it looks very similar to an iPhone 4, but of course it didn't come out yet at that time hahaha
Hammer man is a hot and funny, but I agree the best line is balls
@BuffyTheSlayer14 i do like Nerimon but i watched the musical before i watched the cover
@Krendog2 ,
My thoughts exactly. I think he fit the bill perfect. Why else would he be there? :()
haha yes
*watches :29-1:12 over and over aggaain*
Oh meh gawd it's Castle :O
who needs a phonebox baha
@bethlind He WAS captain of the serenity. Goddamn Rupert Murdoch...
does captain hammer remind anyone else of the father from malcolm in the middle?
"Did you notice that he threw you in the garbage?!" XD
That would probably be the second thing on my mind if someone saved my life.
Or if you 'thought' someone saved your life. As was already stated in the video, Horrible was the one who stopped the van.
Thanks Dr. Obvious.
seiryu84 Anytime, Captain Sarcasm.
I mean, it's Nathan Fillion, so complaints? Nope
Nathan Fillion's second greatest role.
Captain Reynolds never was the same after Wash's death.
lol
Wha...?!
What does that have to do with anything?
Sam Diehl
Go watch Firefly and Serenity, kid. Then you'll get it. But watch Firefly before you watch Serenity, otherwise you'll get confused.
...Ok...?
Sam Diehl
Don't worry, son, we'll make a Whedonverse expert outta you yet.
“Thank you Hammer-Man
I don't think I can
Explain how important it was
That you stopped the van.”
*** BAM! ***
“I would be splattered
I'd be crushed into debris…”
*** BAM! ***
“Thank you sir for saving me!”
LOVE IT!!!
LOVE IT!!!
LOVE IT!!!
Captain Hammer was in Buffy, Firefly, and Castle
Penny is Charlie in Supernatural, and a slayer in Buffy
All is cleared up
Don't forget. He was also Father David in Dracula 2000. And Hal Jordan's voice in a few Justice League movies.
Also he was a voice of the jock in monsters university.
The thing I love about this movie is that it's a reverse super hero story.
Dr. Horrible became a villain to change the world.
Captain Hammer became a hero to be cocky and flex his muscles.
It's usually the other way around.
56 people got their girlfriends stolen by superheros.
Captain Obvious (I renamed him, yes): Lacy, gently wafting curtains...
Dr. Horrible: Dafuq?
Gosh I love this so much! Whedons rock!!
Oof. That comment didn't age well.
After watching castle, I heard about this blog so I decided to watch it. I think I just peed myself because I was laughing so hard. Nathan Fillion you are an utter legend XD
Nathan Fillion rocks my socks. He looks like he's having so much fun playing this role! Like, he's so into it, it's great. And is he rally singing? Cause his voice is not too shabby either.
First comment in like 5 years. Great song
As I'm sure you've seen me mention before..
I five starred this simply on the fact that this is sheer, unadulterated win, but please, PLEASE support Joss and the crew and buy the DVD.
This is the most underrated song of the movie. Everyone loves the Felicia/Neil harmony in my eyes but I think the Felicia/Neil/Nathan harmony in this is just as good.
Balls.
haha the sound his head makes from hitting the car goes with the beat xD
Nathan Fillion is awesome. I can't wait for more Captain Hammer
Destiny!
Captain Hammer's here with his saving expertise!
@hinatarocks88888 still cooler than him not having graduated there though. ;) There are some other ppl that graduated in my town that are famous now, but in my school it's just Nathan Fillion. Although its such a tiny school (750 students!) that I was surprised even one person who graduated was famous. lol
is it just me or does it seem like in every stereotypical villain, hero storyline the villain seems like he used be a good/nice and smart guy who just didnt have anything going for him and the hero is just some big jock who is ultimately somewhat of a douchebag?
@AngelBearOH I think he has so much trouble with him due to the fact Hammer's super strong. Plus, Dr. Horrible isn't really bad - he wouldn't let the van actually hurt a bystander just to further his own cause, which is one of his weaknesses, as he looses time making sure no one gets hurt.
@GlitchmasterStudios Lol its cause he thinks the saying is referring to real curtains and wants to say Billy's getting girly curtains - but its actually referring to an iron curtain (bars). As in prison. LOL that's why Billy's just like "waaah?" XD
i heard Joss and cast say to the contrary in a comicon panel a few years back. They named another person as his voice double. But if u claim they said otherwise in the commentary then i guess they must have been joking on the panel.
OMG I feel so proud to have graduated from the same High School as Nathan Fillion. :D Anyone who sings about hair blowing in the wind while riding on top of a van wearing cargo pants is amazing in my book. ;D
@hinatarocks88888 That's where I first saw him too! (Then, as I was wandering my high school halls munching on a plate of poutine and looking at the past graduating classes... I found out he graduated from my school! :D)
Hillarious. I luv Nathan Fillion.
@keda1981 LOL I know, right? I've tried imitating that sound but it never comes out the way NPH does it... its too epic for anyone else to manage it. ;D
@currs123 well, yes, otherwise it'd be curtain time for Dr. Horrible a long long LONG ime ago.... (See Dr. Horrible? Silver lining!)
and the fact that the villain doesnt get what he really wanted in the past which leads him to be evil
Nathan Fillion unfortunately didn't really sing. The guy who did it sounds just like him tho.
This has got to be one of the most powerful scenes of the whole show.
Not only does this establish Captain Hammer as the hero. It puts him down as both the hero and as the self absorbed twat he is. Not only that, it shows he only likes Penny from the moment he only notices her after Horrible gets angry.
That, and it show Dr. Horrible as someone desperate for attention, being an evil scientist... for the sake of good.
So many aspects, all portrayed brilliantly within 3 minutes of time....
At first I wondered just WHY Whedon wanted Captain Hammer to be a total douche, but after a minute I realized that it pretty much HAD to be this way. If Hammer was a real hero, then it'd be a LOT harder to sympathize with Billy because he'd be wanting to antagonize (and later kill) a genuinely good person.
Sadly? Or it's because Castle is AFTER this, so the comments on him retiring to being a crime novelist make sense. No need for the whole "hipsterlike" attitude. Nathan rocks, as does Castle AND firefly. No need to bash a really great show to try to seem different or whatever else. Firefly was a great show, but so is Castle. Nathan is also in Slither? Nobody mentions that. He's also in other things as well. He loves both, as he's said. He misses his friends on firefly, but he loves Castle too.
Notice that, the man doing what he has to do while singing the reprise is Dr.Horrible who, despite the almost disaster and the ongoing disaster of his crush flirting with his nemesis finishes off the heist, while Captain Hammer is too busy to do what he 'has to do' by stopping him. Of course, I suppose pointing out one more instance where Horrible is playing the good guy better than Hammer would just be redundant
@Zerothedarkside
I don't even think he would've killed Hammer. He had plenty of chance to just shoot him, instead he was trying to talk himself into it. ("Head up, Billy Buddy, there's no time for mercy...Here goes no mercy....") As much as he hated him, Dr. Horrible was still to nice to kill another human being. As opposed to cpt. Hammer, who pulled the trigger without missing a beat.
@ShadowSonic2 I agree. There are so many almost subtle things in the movie that tell the whole story. If Captain Hammer wasn't such a douche and bowed out, letting Billy get Penny instead of trying to take her for himself, the entire ending would have been avoided. Penny would have lived, Billy never would have had a reason to try and kill Captain Hammer, and instead would've probably been turned to good because of Penny. Guess it goes to show how much one's actions can affect the future.
There are plenty of conductive gloves out there for the express purpose of using touchscreen phones while wearing them. More importantly, really, the guy's built a freeze ray. Obviously, his phone (and, probably, his gloves) won't be stock.
I'd kind of like to hear the rest of the song if Captain Hammer didn't interupt it, I think it would have sounded cool if Dr. Horrible kept singing after 'my wish is your command' (which is one of the best song lines ever concocted, if I might add)
Most phones require a conductive object to interact with it. Higher end phones may require a heated object. Only cheaper phones use pressure alone, though some of the expensive screens may have an optic display that gloves would work with. It's not impossible to modify gloves to be capable of using any of these types however....
"Oh, no I didn't just shove you in the trash and didn't bother to help you back out. YES, I stopped the van with my superior strength, nevermind it stopped before I touched it. I have MIND POWERS. You're cute by the way. Feel free to fall in love while I use your body and crush your feelings." ~Captain Hammer Translation
I pretty much try and sing my favourite parts so that includes singing different peoples part. Like, I switch from "Are you kidding? What heist were you - I wonder what you're captain of... When you're the best you can't- did you notice that he threw you in the -heart is beating like a- aaaass needs kicking-" and so on. :L
@OscarRygh You know speaking of Neil Patrick Harris, after I read your comment I looked to the side looking for some related videos, saw one with neil patrick harris with his old spice commercial and I just thought to my self "wait....what does Neil Patrick Harris have to do with this?".Man I'm freaking stupid.
@xagorn Lol, I was actually thinking about that when I was watching this clip. I thought, "You know, why didn't he just hit the brakes and have him go rolling off the back of the van?" Of course the logical, party pooper answer is, "Well if he did that then we wouldn't have a story!" But we all know that's no fun. :-p
Once she was clear of the van, I think I'd just let the van keep going. Let him earn the glory if he survives. I guess it could compromise the integrity of the Wonderfluonium, though, so that probably would have ruined other plans. But, killing or maiming your nemesis by bowling him over with a courier van has got to count for something with the E.L.E., right?
There's some videos online that explain how you can make your touch-screen work while wearing gloves. Something to do with conductive paste on the tips of your fingers.
Or, you know, the spark he feels for her is so strong it passes right through the gloves
I don't think the two have to compete. ;) I love both shows, though obviously Firefly does get more of my love as it is about space cowboys and just plain awesome. Even so, Castle is pretty good and really has its moments. And I could never say no to a chance of a weekly dose of Nathan Fillion.. :)
This is the first time I've seen Felicia Day in action.
People can still be stupid but very kind and sincere. Penny works with the story but I have such a bias love for NPH anyone who hurts him I deem bad. That and srsly, "It's ok capt. hammer will save us" *die*?? SRSLY?!
@Poky789 It may not be too random, Joss Whedon did make both Firefly and Dr.Horrible. I got the name of the gun from the Firefly wiki, so there is a possibility that it's not true, but I'd like to think that it is.
I hope they'll get Stana Katic for Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog sequel - she sings beautifully (check The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice movie) and I'd love to hear her and Nathan Fillion performing a duo :)
Gotta admit, my first introduction to Nathan was Caleb in Buffy aka the guy who poked Xander's eye out with his thumb, and I'm still having a hard time getting over that (though shit man Nathan's acting was terrific in those episodes)
Has anybody noticed that Captain Hammer doesn't dress like a superhero? No tights, no cape, no mask. Big clunky boots, cargo pants, a T-shirt and gloves; that's more like Jayne Cobb...hmm. I guess he IS dressed like a superhero, after all.
@TheSilverfish2 haha, he just HAD to get in on the action, didnt he? :P
he's so awesome X3 he also originally wanted to sing the theme song for Firefly, but was shot down because everyone told him his voice was terrible. poor guy X3
@ruroremy i disagree with "That, and it show Dr. Horrible as someone desperate for attention" He is in love with penny, thus trying to see if she is ok, And the rest he is just trying to get into the evil league of evil. other thant that i agree 100%
same as she doesn't notice his douchy-ness
"nothing here to see
just imminent danger
in the middle of it...me.
yes captain hammer here
hair blowing in the breeze"
song or not you have to realize how self-centered he is or you are just lost
i guess its just because he plays the "bully" roll to well, its not that i dislike him as an actor i just dont like him when hes playing captain hammer, but theres no way to deny hes a great actor and he is the best actor for this roll by far
I feel so sorry for the doc in this song! Especially when he's leaning against the van, and when he says "Stop looking at her like that!" But the song's hilarious, and Penny raises a pertinent question: what IS he captain of, anyway?
...Balls.
@ImogensImagination18 ~ I like Alex's cover better, too. Liam has such an amazing voice, and I think Dr. Horrible sounds better with Alex's british accent, same with Penny - Chazz does a much better job.
Thank you Hammer Man, I don't think I can explain how important it was that you stopped the van.
*THUD*
I would be splattered, I'd be crushed into debris,
*THUD*
Thank you sir for saving me.
It makes me sad whenever I hear him talking about Firefly. "I broke the cardinal rule of don't fall in love with what you're doing, because the rug can get yanked out from underneath you, and when it did, I was heartbroken."
Sadly, Nathan Fillion is better known as Castle, but for us Independents (Firefly Fans) he will always be Mal. Plus Nathan Fillion actually said he liked playing Mal better than Castle, so score for Firefly!
@acrestfallenimmortal In my opinion everything that happens in this movie has some sort of symbolic meaning or some sort of a deeper sense underneath, that's why a lot of moments in this film can't be explained rationaly.
When Captain Hammer jumps off of the vanb - right behind him on the other corner of the intersection is the facade used as the "CHandler Hotel" from the last 3 seasons of "Sliders".
- The Music Loving Klingon
Sorry guess I miss spoke. How bout little known fact . that work for you or are you going to argue that nobody knows that neil patrick harris is on how i met your mother. Very sorry proffessor Snape... Wont happen agaion ;)
What I learned from this song is that a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
OMG LIKE WOW. THAT IS SO TOTALLY WEIRD!! Like that's something everyone was wondering about! Whether there was 15 year old girl who sounds like a man!! Omg like wow, you must be super unique!
/sarcasm
thank you hammer man i don't think i can explain how important it was that you stopped the van i would be splattered id be crushed into debris thank you sir for saving me don't worry about it
Just wondering if anyone else realises that Nathan (Captain Hammer) played Jonny on the old tv show "Two guys, a girl, and a pizza place" (Two guys and a girl) with a young Ryan Reynolds. Fun fact.
Joss Whedon is a god.
The ending just owns all.
He has twisted it that people like Dr. Horrible over Captain Hammer, thats obvious....
But at the end.... after it all.... all he wanted was the girl
meh! Neil sounds soo adorable when he sings:
"are you kidding? what heist were you watching? did you notice that he through you in the garbage?" he sounds so hurt and cute at the same time!
Billy is the one I feel worst for. I think this movie is great because it sort of shows the lighter side to a 'villain' and the darker to a 'hero'. And in the end, no one wins.
As a man i can surely say as I am secure in my sexuality. Nathan Fillion really is ruggedly handsome. It makes me proud to know he is Canadian, amkes up or giving the world Bieber.
I prefer Alex Day's cover,I like all the people in his one, but in this I only like Neil. The voices of the other 2 actors just don't sound right. I'm buying the show on iTunes tonight :)
@OliveYou2Much Doctor Horrible is a super villian trying to get into Evil League. Captain Hammer is his nemesis, Penny(The woman Captain Hammer saved) is the woman Doctor Horrible loves.
@explodingbottles1 I thought the same thing, and if that did happen...well, the story may have been a lot happier in the end
In fact, where did Hammer jump from to get to the van? huh...
Me and my buddies sung this in band class we got some stares......i
@KRaGG101 As a longtime Bruce Campbell fan, I have to agree! I've loved all of Nathan's characters (except maybe the soap opera one, because i've never watched soap operas, lol.
