This is a song that was made for the movies, in particular movies about the desperate and lonely experience of lost souls attracted to Hollywood every day. Appropriately enough, it was effectively featured in David N. Gottlieb’s THE SEVENTH DWARF, which went unreleased until producer Sam Sherman picked it up and had Gottlieb shoot new sex and nude scenes so it could be marketed, successfully, as an exploitation picture called GAME SHOW MODELS. Schock’s song plays over the opening montage of the lead character preparing for his new job at a big Hollywood talent agency, and again at the end when he gives it all up out of disillusionment. The film was released in 1977, but a lot of visual evidence on screen, particularly the cars, suggests it was filmed circa 1974-75. This was the first time I’d ever heard the song and I’m really surprised a more high-profile filmmaker hasn’t used it on a soundtrack since then. Maybe some day . . .

I'd hear her periodically living in Orange Co CA in the 70s. I loved her.

I remember when this song came out on the radio. It was not popular…. Only for me was it a good song. As to the video’s notes, I don’t think it has any relation to a Carole King song. It’s better than a Carole King song.
Lastly, Schock’s version (singing) of No Way to Treat a Lady was on the radio first but the Helen Reddy version later came out and was popular. I always preferred Schock’s version of No Way to Treat a Lady.
