- I'm thinking that it makes absolutely perfect sense to have a market day at least once a fortnight, if not weekly. Being in a local market always transports me to an extraordinarily different and unique world where I am hypnotized by the MYRIAD of sounds, smells, sights, textures and yes, TASTES too! There was so much to learn, so much to digest and absorb. All the vendors I met at "puna" market were so friendly and helpful. This was a gem of an experience for my ducklings. Not forgetting that full platter of talkari and sada that followed, I must confess that this was a well packed day which mesmerized all senses leaving me with a well earned stamp of accomplishment. It was "ah different level day"! Enjoy!

My beautiful angel ...lowkie is my favorite accept that we cook it a bit differently here in SA . Yet you got me hungry with your trio of dishes . Ive not seen such a large lowkie / calabash (we also call it calabash) before . We generally go for the one's which are young and small . People often poke their nails into the skin to see if its soft (not a good habit) but they do it to ensure it's young and softe and will melt like butter when cooked . You have used so many terms we or my mum used to use . Jinga is dried shrimps which we cook lowkie with or we add it instead of potatoes to lamb or mutton curry . Its delicious . But your presentation made me want to go out and buy some and cook .

Hello Ellis dear, I saw you took out the seed from the loukie but the seed taste really awesome in it. Try it with the seeds. You could add a little more water in the loukie and let it cook on low heat it will melt down a little more. Great job cooking it for the first time.
