Fun fact: if you look at their website, while the youngest sister is currently at university, the other two have masters in chemistry! Also, basically the band formed because their military dad liked a bluegrass performance he saw and thought it be cool to have them learn music. To even get the option of learning an instrument, they all had to learn piano. What I'm saying is, they're basically all extremely smart as well.
A good piece of information based on your comments--they do their own arrangements. Katie, the violinist, is the musical director and principal arranger. She writes great harmonies and understands the vocal strengths of her younger siblings. Emmet, the dobro player is a brilliant arranger for bluegrass acoustic string instruments. Those two collaborate on most of the arrangements. Ellen, on banjo, does the marketing for the band. Matt who plays the guitar is the business manager. Julianne, on the mandolin, handles the travel blog and advises Ellen on utilizing social media for the marketing. Karen (Mom) seems to using her Masters degree in Music Education to do quality control on chord structures in scores and actual performances. They have few employees, but are a very lean organization compared to most of the Branson shows.
Have you listened to Emmett’s song, “Moments”? I think it may be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. He wrote it as a reaction to a book he read. His dobro playing is off the charts! And his vocals are amazing! I would love for you to do a reaction to his son “Moments”.
Me too. Gives me goose bumps. Emmett is an extraordinary storyteller with his voice and his dobro. The dobro in Moments has the perfect wanderlust vibe to it that must've been going through the mind of McCandless as he to get as far away from civilization as he could. Then the picture Emmett paints with the lyrics evokes images in the mind of the emptiness within.
I also found them about a year ago and I think they are the best musical group in a very long time. They arrange the music themselves and also write original music that is very good. I have literally sat and listened to them for hours at a time enjoying every minute. I agree that their family dynamics are amazing and quite refreshing in these days. Hopefully I will get to Branson to see them live one day soon. Thanks for giving your take as a musician on this marvelous family blue grass group.
I'm pretty sure they do their own arranging and writing. Karen the mother/Bass player has a masters degree in music theory and Katie, Emmett and Julianne have also written several beautiful songs.
I was blown away as well! They are all awesome

After his mitary career, Dad went to medical school and has become a doctor.
Mum has a Masters in music. Trumpet specialty.

Their videos are great, but I greatly recommend seeing them in person in Branson.
Keeping their techie stage helps orient to originality. Eg, texture n balance.

Thank you for reacting to the Peterson’s. They’re a real breath of fresh air for those like me who are disenchanted with Nashville these days.
Oh, go ahead and say it. You're in love with them just like we all are.😊

If you haven't already, you have got to check out their video of Bohemian Rhapsody. It is amazing!!
Great song, great performance and you, Rob, are doing them justice so well! Thank you!
Heaven = Katie...my opinion. Hope I didn't afend anyone with that comment, mainly Miss Katie I think the world of her.
Check out The Fox with Ger ODonnell, the Irish folksinger.

I see that Katie plays a violin with 5 strings, instead of the usual 4 strings. Is that more difficult to play ?
I suppose, not a musician myself.
Just to add, her fiddle is larger than standard, sorta viola sizs.
