About 10 years ago, I was standing on a subway platform in NYC. I was on my way home from an awful day at work. I was late on my rent, my car had been towed, my bank account was overdrawn, and I had just used the last ride on my MetroCard. I was hungry and I knew I didn't have any food at home. I wouldn't be paid for another 2 days. As I stood on this train platform, a homeless man with a guitar sang this song, tears on his face. I gave him the last $3 in my wallet and stood there on that platform and cried with him while he sang. This song will always remind me of that moment.
I’m not even close to America, I live in Azerbaijan and i am azerbaijani dude))) , but I feel homesick for West Virginia because of this song 😂 Masterpiece once made by John Denver is equally amazingly made by this people! Bravo! Especially bravo to violin lady ❤️ that’s overawesome
America needs more proud citizens! If you go through the immigration process as intended, I'd be happy to sponsor you! It might take a while, but it will be well worth it!
It. Makes you LONG for home no matter where you are from. The southern states are where you can call home no matter wherr you are from. Land is cheap. Buy some! Some here! Be apart of it all. ❤
This song takes me back to my childhood, I’m an old man now, it’s good to reflect upon your life to remember the good times and the bad! As that’s what makes you a man!
Gday! I'm 72yrs young, a country boy from a little country town, Allora, in Australia. My son lived in Pittsburgh for a while and my wife and I visited him and his wife there in 2004. I borrowed their car and toured eight states and loved it, with the first one being West Virginia. Listening to the car radio while driving, we heard Bluegrass music for the first time and loved it straight up. Coincidentally, that first bluegrass music for us came from an Aussie radio station Hawkesbury Radio, broadcasting through one of the West Virginia radio stations, how good was that! While travelling in your great land, we avoided the freeways and the blacktop (a word we had to find the meaning of 😄) and took to the country roads which is what we do back here at home. So the Country Roads song hits the spot with me. One of my favourite bluegrass bands no longer plays, but now I've found you guys, you're now top of my list. Luv yas!
About 25 years ago a good friend, who was a huge John Denver fan, died from melanoma from exposure in the Marine Corps. His family was from West Virginia and we attended his funeral deep in the hills outside of Morgantown. The women of this little church sung this with such heartfelt sorrow that we cried for days.
Thanks. I needed that. I feel that I'm not home any more since I'm now in a senior residence. No quiet any more, just roaring traffic. Thank God for music. Good music, like yours.
Sometimes it really sucks how quick things can change in our lives, but i hope you're still finding things in tour day to day life that make you feel at home ♡
As a born and bred Mountaineer (West Virginian), this is a song we hold in our hearts. In 1980, I got to see John Denver perform 'Country Roads' at the opening of the brand new Mountaineer Stadium in Morgantown, WV, for the first football game of the season. In 1987, I moved to Annapolis, MD, for my first real job out of college. I was there for just over a year when an opportunity opened up right in the area where I was raised. With my parents and my fiancé still living there, I jumped at the chance to move back home. Will never forget while driving back to the Kanawha Valley area, 'Country Roads' came on the radio and tears were streaming. It was a great welcome home!! I've always lived by the ole saying..."You can take the boy from the mountains, but you can never take the mountains from the boy"!!
@patriciaecampbell372 my next-door neighbor, grew up on Hughston Hollow. Still has family there. I've worked all over Kanawha County, so I know it well. I live in western Kanawha County
One of my life's premier memories is driving through West Virginia in the summer of 1973. My 3 best friends were with me, and we harmonized to "Country Roads" as we drove. . . I could barely see the road for my tears at the beauty of blended voices and scenery.
My daughter and I drove from Canada to Florida and back in March. We passed through this marvelous landscape. I could have just stayed in West Virginia. Just beautiful!
I moved to east Tennessee in2012 and in a very short time I felt that way to. Driving down the roads and having people waving or going to the store and having people talk like they have known you for years. They always want to help you if you need it😃😃. That is how I was raised. Wish more people would be that way. It would be a better world I feel.
I'm in PA Appalachia. All my side of the family are in FL and SC. I also lived in NC for a time. There is some magic for sure bout WV...I've contemplated homesteading there many times. There's also a place in my heart round the Smokies both NC and TN sides.
Years ago my former wife and I visited Cass WV. Liked it there ( road the train) . very nice and great people but don't care for all the snow, that is some of why I chose eastern Tn.
I drove through West Virginia 10 years ago with my grandfather who is now dead. The first time we saw the sign West Virginia we were astounded by how beautiful it was a few minutes later going down into this valley. My grandfather started crying because he knew his time was coming soon.. I visited West Virginia for work a few months ago and it’s very spiritual. I asked my bartender at this hotel in West Virginia if she knows how beautiful it is and why other people don’t know about it and she said… We want to keep it that way. People talk crap about the state and their people and it’s completely unjustified. I’ve never met more genuine people in my life. What you see is what you get
My grandma was from Cowen WVa . I loved her. I am 78 and this reminds me of all of the great times I had with her ...I am from NJ and live in Upstate NY..I miss her😢❤I felt so safe with you grandma..
I moved to Washington State from Virginia... I will probably never be able to go back, but every time I hear "Country Roads", I sit back and remember for a spell... Your rendition made my eyes leak a bit, but they were good tears... Thank you.
I don't live in West Virginia, but I have always loved this song. Beautiful music being played by beautiful people, with beautiful hearts. Thank you for being you!
Nostalgia..my daughter and I used to sing this song together years ago along with the original artist. Thank you so much for bringing a happy memory back to me ❤️.
I was born in North Carolina, but my momma's side of the family is mostly from west Virginia. I hadnt been there all that much but it was so beautiful, and i wanna go back one day.
I learned to walk and talk, learned to read and write in the hills of West Virginia. My momma a coal miners daughter taught me how to pray in the hills of West Virginia. It will always be a special place to me.
here is a french fan ! ( choir conductor)so wonderful your voices matching together a perfect harmony . the sound a capella is completely perfect. and another thing which is very important : every person of your group is absolutely sympathic ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏. thank you for your gift to us!
OMG, the opening seconds took me back 65 years in a flash!!! Back to my grandparents little farm in the hills of Tennessee. Nice rendition of this John Denver classic. Thanks for the video!
I grew up in Elliott County...a little town tucked way back in the hollers and hills of Kentucky. Keith Whitley and Ricky Skaggs and so many others seemed to be part of most of our celebrations and grievings. The Petersen Family transports and transcends every genre and box many people have tried to squeeze bluegrass into intentionally and unwittingly. The musicality and talent and gifting of this group are beyond beautiful.
Is it just me, or does American want our country to be what John Denver imagined it would be? An honest, pure and beautiful country it once was for a brief spell? I do believe it that is what America wants and needs. Now more then ever.
Amazing,,I'm from the sticks of northern Michigan but I spent 6 years working in the southern coal fields area of WV,, the land was different but the people felt like home,,bless you guys

Such a wonderful life.....Blessed with some truly great musicians at heart ! Having lived and grown in a little Lower-Himalayan town surrounded by hlls and such green forests , rivers and what not....it feels great to know there are people who use their talent bringing out the beauty of Living In Nature ....THANKS, Southern Raised .
I watch this vd every day and never get tired of it. Great musicians and great camera too. That rain drizzling on the house is the perfect backing, so melancholic. I feel transported to that place!...
Have Loved the song for nearly 50 years. Love it even more now. Thanks again for your beautiful harmony. The world is a much better place with you all in it.😁
I could listen to Take Me Home Country Roads a hundred times in a row and I wouldn't get tired of it. This song never gets old. Beautiful cover here as well.
Played by my angels here on earth this song is dedicated to my mom Lois Temple now Playing her accordian up in heaven with my grandad Playing his 🎻 PTL for southern raised ❤️ ✝️ 🕊
Was this filmed in Cades Cove? Never mind, I KNOW this is Cades Cove. See anything black and fuzzy? I’ve always wondered how they would react to live music. Beautiful place, but keep your head on a swivel! 😀 Beautiful song! John Denver would be proud!
It definitely had that feel! I know I haven’t seen all the scenic places of the South by far, but my memory was taking me to the Smokies for sure. Nice to have a confirmation on my suspicions!
You are right, so many beautiful places to see, I wish I could see more. Only get to see a couple of places in Eastern Tennessee but I love the old structures and amazed at how they built with out the use of power tools.
@@jeffharper7579 it’s hard for me to get past Dandridge Tn. There is a drop zone there called skydive East Tn. You can get a lot of scouting in and have a blast too!

Nothing short of AWESOME! My discovery of Southern Raised was sheer luck but I keep coming back for more of your incredible talent!

Absolute perfection.!! Such talent, each and every one of you. And I must add that Matt Reith's beautiful bass voice is AWESOME!!
A ma zing. Greetings from Southern Italy...👋👋🌅🌅🇮🇹🍝🍕.
Love both your versions of this classic. Different but just as good.

Great cover. Great harmonies.
This song makes me miss something. I don’t know what. But it tugs at my heart in a way I can’t explain.
Was this filmed in Cades Cove? Never mind, I KNOW this is Cades Cove. See anything black and fuzzy? I’ve always wondered how they would react to live music. Beautiful place, but keep your head on a swivel! 😀 Beautiful song! John Denver would be proud!
I noticed that to. Posted in a earlier comment. Love these guys🎶🎵🎶😃.wish I could have been there for this.
This has to be Caves Cove! It's such a beautiful place too.❤
