Hope you're doing alright now dude. I'm about to turn 30 and been struggling with drugs for a long time now. It's not as hard now as it used to be, and idk why. It might only be because I'm taking methadone now, but I'm getting close to finishing the taper, and should be leaving the clinic sometime next year.

This place is a prison and these people aren't your friends
Inhaling thrills through twenty dollar bills and the
Tumblers are drained and then flooded again and again
There are guards at the on ramps armed to the teeth
And you may case the grounds from the
Cascades to Puget Sound, but you are not
    Permitted to leave
I know there's a big world out there like the
One I saw on the screen
In my living room late last night,
It was almost too bright to see
And I know that it's not a party if it happens every night
    Pretending there's glamor and candelabra
    When you're drinking by candlelight
What does it take to get a drink in this place?
What does it take, how long must I wait?

The more I listen to this, the more I realize Gibbard and Tamborello were probably attempting to make a pastiche of a song The Album Leaf would make (instrumental-wise)
That, or a member or two of The Album Leaf were involved in the making of this song, which isn't too out there considering both projects are signed with Sub Pop records and probably did come across each other at some point.
Anyways, if you like this song, I'd reccomend checking out The Album Leaf's albums. Not all of their tracks are as melancholy as this one, but they scratch a similar itch.
