Well fucking said my man. I've been in love with this album for 20 years and I still have to play it from start to finish. After I got clean after losing an arm, this album became that much more meaningful❤
Revisiting this record is making me feel crazy. It’s just so much more intense than I remember it being even tho I listen to it at least once of twice a year. But today it’s cutting right into me.
I heard this song first when I was about 14 years old. Fast forward im 23 years now and been through drug abuse and fake people around me, when I quit drugs they all disappeared one by one. I used to like this song but now it literally speaks to me in another way.
Hope you're doing alright now dude. I'm about to turn 30 and been struggling with drugs for a long time now. It's not as hard now as it used to be, and idk why. It might only be because I'm taking methadone now, but I'm getting close to finishing the taper, and should be leaving the clinic sometime next year.
such thoughtful production on this track. you can hear every decision made on each individual instrument. in my opinion this is an excellent track for these reasons alone.
I remember waiting for an IED to go, using this track as focus. Iraq had unique challenges, remembering what had to be done.... I wouldn't of made it without samples like this. I was lucky
This place is a prison and these people aren't your friends Inhaling thrills through twenty dollar bills and the Tumblers are drained and then flooded again and again There are guards at the on ramps armed to the teeth And you may case the grounds from the Cascades to Puget Sound, but you are not Permitted to leave I know there's a big world out there like the One I saw on the screen In my living room late last night, It was almost too bright to see And I know that it's not a party if it happens every night Pretending there's glamor and candelabra When you're drinking by candlelight What does it take to get a drink in this place? What does it take, how long must I wait?

Goddddddd I used to listen to this so much in my bed at night during high school and when I first started going to college. I recently revisited it and made a cover, and the whole process brought up so many emotions. I will always love this track. And the way it can make me cry when I really need to.
2:20 as a kid listening to this, didn't realize drums could make you cry. the tone of this song is perfect. transports you to that loneliness deep inside, and in recognizing it, shares the burden of pain and ma$$a-architected segregation. armed to the teeth
this song is particularly fitting because of the puget sound line. im stuck here in the PNW and this song is totally my mood. what i would do to move back to where i was from........
I remember the first time I listened to this song I was driving alone about 4 hours drive to go visit friends and when that drum machine hits towards the end.. well it was such a feeling here I am 15 or so years later tales me back
I remember this song... it spoke to me... I'm no longer friends with superficial friends...just a small group... It was fun with them and no ill will, I just didn't want that lifestyle.
Maybe they put some voodoo type stuff into these songs because they are all just so insanely good and perfect. Humans shouldn’t be able to pull such gold out of thin air
can't wait to see them next month. I missed them open for Coldplay in 2003, I had tix to the reunion tour in 2014 but ended up in a medical detox, but nothing will stop me from seeing them this time around. i didn't hesitate to drop $500 for 2 tickets
Everytime I hear it, my love for CS rises.... First time I heared it was on the fragmovie surreal 3, one of my favorites and still, this song makes me remember the good old days of CS:s before it went all competitive and cheater infested.
It really bothers me that most people don't know about The Postal Service. I make it a point to introduce as many people as I can. By far one of the best albums ever made❤
this song stops me from attempting suicide every few years. im really messed up and sometimes i just gotta get grounded by hearing this a few dozen times over the course of 2 or 3 days
I'm sure we all know this if we're already here but if you love JL (and who doesn't), check out Broken Social Scene. Feist, Emily Haines, Lisa Lobsinger, among others have all sung their female leads and just absolutely killed of course. Such a badass band.
I'd reccomend The Album Leaf, a band on the same label The Postal Service is. Heck, this song sounds like Postal Service's attempt at a The Album Leaf-esque song. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the members from The Album Leaf were involved with this song somehow.
The more I listen to this, the more I realize Gibbard and Tamborello were probably attempting to make a pastiche of a song The Album Leaf would make (instrumental-wise) That, or a member or two of The Album Leaf were involved in the making of this song, which isn't too out there considering both projects are signed with Sub Pop records and probably did come across each other at some point. Anyways, if you like this song, I'd reccomend checking out The Album Leaf's albums. Not all of their tracks are as melancholy as this one, but they scratch a similar itch.
Can anyone help me??? I heard a song a long time ago, " how did you know i needed you tonight..." and then something about a lit up lantern. Everyone said it was the postal service but ive never been able to find the song. Im going on years and years now. Can anyone tell me what song it is?
This whole album will always be fire

Glad you got clean brother. As you know many dont live to tell the tale@SkinnyEatWorld95
"it's not a party if it happens every night" - stuck with me hard
Nearly 15 years after hearing this song, it live in my head.
easily the most underrated song on the album
Opening sounds like crunching snow and gravel.
It usually makes me think of sludge water in the pipes.
Old friend used to describe it endearingly as washing machine sounds
Such a sick track man. Great mix of indie alternative and industrial electronica. That snare is perfection.
100% just heard the snare on my monitors and its absolutely perfect.
i love it
Keep your "Such Great Heights" and "District Sleeps Alone".
This is my favorite track on the album.
It sticks in the weirdest way

The moment I realized that my ex didn't agree with the "it's not a party if it happens every night" line was the moment I knew it wouldn't work...

He’s honestly a poet on this record. Every word has a purpose and moves things forward. It’s truly absurd to me that this thing even exists.
Reminds me of my real first love. Never knew music like this until he played it. Miss him so very much

This takes me back to seeing them live. I so wish they'd make just one more album :'(
agreed. I saw them in Atlanta and it was awesome. I feel like the postal service and box car racer needed a second album. both amazing bands.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM!!? I just found them
It was a side project on Ben Gibbard (death cab for cutie) and someone else. Never meant to be a full time band.
James Fleming
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HALP ME
Jimmy Tamborello. Solo project: Dntel. Member of headset and figurine.
I've been looking for this song for damn best ten years and an ex from my child hood put it on her face book, thanks for the up load
Bucket list was seeing them perform this live and it was amazing. I love this song so much.
One of the greatest songs / bands
I work at a casino and I swear this fits so perfectly, including players talking about how long it takes to get a drink haha
i work at casino too, 100% hahaha
its songs meiaphore about lousy service in some regards personaly
For some reason listening to this song brings comfort in the casino late night environment.
Back to school season
This track has a very "Massive Attack" feel to me.
The change of tempo of this song is out of this world!!!

Those drums drop so hard. Grove kicks my head into nodding.
The way the drums drop in blew my mind back when I first heard this almost 20 years ago....it still has that pop tho
has a mount eerieee vibe

Ben Gibbard has talked about his alcoholism and how he's now in recovery. These days he runs ultra-marathons.
