Right here with you man. I was 16 with a bunch of friends, we passed a joint inside his old school bronco while playing Postal Service, was hooked ever since. I'll be 32 next year.
This was the recessional song at my wedding back in 2006. Still happily married to my best friend, celebrating 14 years on 10/29/2020. He's still all the good things that keep me going.
So sweet! Reading this 2 days after your fifteenth anniversary!!! My hubby and I celebrate 12 years in January. We never had a wedding and every year I think maybe we will do it this year and this song is a great choice to celebrate with! Hope you are well.
@@Recoveringred Thank you for telling me your story!! Yeah, we just celebrated 15 years after moving across the US to the city we love most, and spending the weekend with our now-8-year-old daughter. Still make time for gaming and love, too. Let me know if you and your husband end up celebrating with this song; I'm really happy for you both.
I remember when my dad first bought this album for my brother, and we listened to it in this gigantic walk in closet and didnt say a word. this album is perfect, and throws back so many memories of better times.
My aunt committed suicide a few years ago and this song is on a mixtape her best friend at the time made for her. It makes me cry how beautiful and hopeful it is. I think about it often. I love you Tara
My friend Tara did the same a few years back, and I listened to this group alot with her when she was still with us... May Tara rest in peace. She will be missed. :(
Im really, deeply sorry for your loss. This hit me. My twin's name is Tara, this is one her favorite songs and bands...we both struggle with suicidal thoughts and depression, deeply. This comment is a reminder to me and my sister to keep on. I hope that you can keep on too, and that your Tara is somewhere out there in the universe, radiant.
Anyone who has had the privilege of discovering this gem of a record at any point in their lives have been BLESSED. This is more than music. This is an EXPERIENCE. So timeless. Words cant explain how much I love this record. My mother showed me the record when I was 8, I am turning 24 in August. My memory of this album was driving through mountains in Colorado, overlooking *SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS*
I totally agree, this album changed my life in some ways when I was younger. I used to drive to it all the time as well. Such Great Heights is my favorite!
One of my family members is a big DCfC/Postal Service fan (Like they created the first dcfc fan site) and they showed me this album. I really like it its super cool :D
Music you remember sounding futuristic when you were a teenager is now nearly 20 years old and a classic. I remember sending this to a girl I liked over AOL Instant Messenger when I was in middle school. She liked it, eventually we kissed, maybe fell in love for awhile. Her family was rich and she traveled the world after high school while I went to college. She'd always hit me up from wherever she was -- Asia, Australia, Europe -- and it was always more heartbreaking than anything because it reminded me that I was painfully middle class and couldn't live that life with her. High school had made us seem like equals, but she was from another world entirely. Now she lives across the country, got married, had kids, and I did the same with someone else. I have the sort of money nowadays that I'd have needed to travel with her, but that was a lifetime ago and a million miles away. The world moves too fast.
This is awesome! I had these lyrics as my "away message" on AOL IM ha ha... It always reminds me of those days... I was in college though... My Philly friend found the album early.. I tried to make IL people fall in love with it too..
Time moves way too fast. At least you had a shot with her, most chicks that I have listen to Postal Service fur their brows and look at me like I'm crazy, they want no part of it. I've since given up for the most part, they only want to listen to whatever the radio tells them to, and I just won't do that. Glad it worked out for you friend.
I thought I was so cool with my little pink mp3 player that could only hold about 100 songs, listening to my older brother's music, bragging to my elementary school friends that I listened to the Postal Service.
I'll be the grapes fermented, bottled and served with the table set In my finest suit, like a perfect gentleman I'll be the fire escape that's bolted to the ancient brick Where you will sit and contemplate your day I'll be the waterwings that save you if you start drowning in An open tab when your judgment's on the brink. When I was young my mom played postal service. My mom and I both loved this song and artist. Years later, me and her listened to this again about 2 days ago. Really we’re the best times for sure 😎
I love this album, and love it again. All the people in this glorious comments section sharing their nostalgic stories of the times they listened to it. This album is so special.
Anyone who uses this song as the primary wedding song, your love will last throughout the ages! This song was already written for you all you had to do was find it. Respect always to the postal service.
I remember riding my skateboard home school to this album.. I swear I listened to it on repeat for months. I’m 29 now and I have trouble listening to this album specifically. I can only do it in doses
"...you won't have to strain to look into my eyes (my eyes)..." And the chorus: "I want to take you far, from the cynics in this town, and kiss you on the mouth, we'll cut our bodies free, from the tethers of this scene, start a brand new colony, where everything will change, we'll give ourselves new names, identities erased, the sun will heat the grounds, under our bare feet..."

It might be nothing, but I've always thought the voices that sing "Everything will change" are almost identical to the ones that sing "Where I am" in The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. They're even both in C Major. Plus the two songs are on almost opposite ends of the album. The first one is about a break up, this one sounds like a new relationship.

I’m not usually up that early, but I could barely sleep at all, probably because I’ve been stressed and anxious out of my mind lately, and I knew at that point that I wasn’t falling back to sleep. my older brother and i spent what felt like an entire summer listening to this album on repeat and playing neopets when we were in middle school. he had been a tyrannical bully to me for most of our early childhood, but things had cooled down a bit as he got older. he didn't listen to much music but for some reason he loved ben gibbard. it was a pretty sad and lonely to spend a beautiful summer inside on the computer, but it's all we had.
I first heard this album at 19 with my best friend in college. We were both tripping on Morning Glory flower seeds (if you don't/didn't know, look it up). Don’t know why I see stuff like this with certain songs, but it’s mostly a cool experience. Wonder what y’all see/think when you hear it.
Well my uncle was friends with Batman. My other uncle worked at Nintendo and met Shigeru Miyamoto and told me how to play the secret level in Mario 3 where you can use SONIC. Beat that Mr. Fancypants.
"She understood more than anything else her wish to be understanding. Seeing all as she would one and all seeing her as also. She had dreams of unstoppable weeping and woke to a soggy pillow in a shoebox near campus. Her face felt sunken. Her heart was a treasure untreasured, beating drummerless the darkness from her shadows with the solace of a moon, the disposition of a sun. She may be lonely but she's not alone and if you are her I'd like you to know this." ,dan'

I want to take you far from the cynics in this town
And kiss you on the mouth
We'll cut our bodies free from the tethers of this scene
Start a brand new colony
Where everything will change, we'll give ourselves new names
Identities erased
The sun will heat the grounds under our bare feet
In this brand new colony (in this brand new colony)

Well my uncle was friends with Batman. My other uncle worked at Nintendo and met Shigeru Miyamoto and told me how to play the secret level in Mario 3 where you can use SONIC.
Beat that Mr. Fancypants.

The sweetest Love Song!
Heard this song on the soundtrack of NHL 2K7 and i like it ever since
"She understood more than anything else her wish to be understanding.
She may be lonely but she's not alone and if you are her I'd like you to know this."
,dan'
Definitely on the mixtape I left her that was so long ago, but still means so much
