  • Crazy quilting is so much fun for me, so I wanted to share how to make a crazy quilt square with you! After piecing together your square with different fabrics, you can embellish your crazy quilt squares just about any way you want - hand embroidery, beading, machine embroidery, ribbons, etc. This is how you make the piece completely your own, and it's such a creative way to do a quilt square, so have fun with it!

    Your crazy quilts are nice. I love to create beautiful Crazy Quilts out of left over scraps. Then I donate them to 'Senior Citizens in our community. There wonderful gifts for family, friends and acquaintance. Sew Fabulous (TM since 1995) is watching everyone's idea's. :)

    In addition to daisies, have you stitched lady bugs on a large leaf, blue birds flying between paisley, or scissors & thimbles? Spider webs are considered lucky(?) I stitch roses in variegated thread using the bullion stitch for a bouquet. I look forward to seeing your other videos. 💕 Thank you.

    Good instructions on making a crazy quilt, and the quality is very clear, but I had my pc volume turned as loud as it will go and I could barely hear what you were saying I think you must have your microphone too far away from you. But other than that it was a very good tutorial. Thank you for sharing.

    Thank you for making these video's. I can't wait to get started but couldn't figure out how to start. You do a very good job explaining things. That being said, I too have my volume all the way up and I can hear you, it's just that when you talk, your voice fades into a soft monotone as you're explaining things. But keep those video's coming. TFS

      Do you do the decorative stitch before you put the squares together with the batting and back or after the whole quilt is sewn together

    • @KnotsKneedles
      @KnotsKneedles  7 лет назад

      In the video I show 2 versions, one with foundation fabric and one without. Generally crazy quilts are not sewn with batting, but if you don't use a foundation fabric, you would sew your pieces together, and do your decorative stitches on seams or wherever, then put it together like you would any other quilt with batting, and backing. If you use a foundation fabric, you can use decorative stitches while piecing, and that becomes the quilting that shows on the backside (your foundation piece is actually back of quilt) But you would not want to do embroidery stitches such as french knots, names, etc with foundation piece, since the stitches will show on the back side. You can do those types of stitches on your pieces before you sew them to the foundation piece. It's hard to explain, but hopefully it makes sense.

    I enjoyed watching this. I am thinking of starting to crazy quilt....have never done any kind of quilting. How do you know what shapes to cut for your square?

    • @KnotsKneedles
      @KnotsKneedles  7 лет назад +1

      Any shape with a straight edge to sew to another straight edge. Sometime fabric will overlap...you can cut off excess on back side.

    • @KnotsKneedles

      It depends on what you want the backside of your quilt to look like. We have another video on how to sew quilt squares together without sashing, and also a video on using fabric strips. There are a variety of ways to connect your squares.

    What is the purpose of sewing the piecing fabric onto the foundation fabric?

    • @KnotsKneedles
      @KnotsKneedles  8 лет назад +1

      It's a method of crazy quilting, called "stitch and flip" or "foundation piecing." Your muslin foundation becomes your backing. Original crazy quilting was done in this manner, then embellished. The foundation fabric gives the quilt stability for embellishments. You can search the internet for more information regarding this method of crazy quilting.

    • @julieten2774
      @julieten2774 8 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your fast reply. I now understand that it is foundation to help with embellishing, but because you state that it is also the backing I have another question. If you use the muslin as the backing does this method not use batting? I will check the web for other demonstrations. Thanks again.

    • @KnotsKneedles
      @KnotsKneedles  8 лет назад +1

      You're welcome, and traditionally, crazy quilts do not have batting. Good luck on your quilting venture. :)
