- Crazy quilting is so much fun for me, so I wanted to share how to make a crazy quilt square with you! After piecing together your square with different fabrics, you can embellish your crazy quilt squares just about any way you want - hand embroidery, beading, machine embroidery, ribbons, etc. This is how you make the piece completely your own, and it's such a creative way to do a quilt square, so have fun with it!

I love the vintage embroidery look, and like civil war era quilt reproduction! Thanks so much for sharing your inspiration!
You have inspired me to begin a crazy quilt… thank you for your video!
Your crazy quilts are nice. I love to create beautiful Crazy Quilts out of left over scraps. Then I donate them to 'Senior Citizens in our community. There wonderful gifts for family, friends and acquaintance. Sew Fabulous (TM since 1995) is watching everyone's idea's. :)
Great visual learning video, my favorite so far. However, couldn't hear what you were saying.
The french knots were an adorable addition!
Such lovely work. I am trying to get inspired. I haven't embroidered since I was very young. I'm 54 now.
Thank you for this. I really like the foundation method. And it is like a jigsaw puzzle which makes it fun. Your ring is beautiful!🥰
Very pretty! Thank you for sharing! 👍😃
What a fun way to use up all those scraps of high quality fabric we do not want to throw out! I love the addition of the embroidery on the top. Thank you for the instructions. I want to try this!
Love your crazy quilt and volume could be louder.. You are awesome!
your the best I subscribed straight away x
Very informative. Really enjoyed it. Thank you 👍🏻
In addition to daisies, have you stitched lady bugs on a large leaf, blue birds flying between paisley, or scissors & thimbles? Spider webs are considered lucky(?) I stitch roses in variegated thread using the bullion stitch for a bouquet. I look forward to seeing your other videos. 💕 Thank you.
Loved this video , am learning hand piecing and hand embroidery. You make both the machine and hand pieced crazy quilting look easy!
Очень красиво!
So nicely presented
So beautiful. Thank you for these instructions. Love it!
Thank you for your patient tutorial; I need to learn how to embroidery - you make it seem so easy! Danielle

Wow, that's beautiful. Thank you. I am inspired!
Love this
Thank you so much - very inspirational!!!
Good instructions on making a crazy quilt, and the quality is very clear, but I had my pc volume turned as loud as it will go and I could barely hear what you were saying I think you must have your microphone too far away from you. But other than that it was a very good tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
I use an earphone when listening to a lot of video volumes don't translate to certain PC or laptop..so I bring the sound to me...much easier to hear that way
Very interesting and beautiful.
Thank you for making these video's. I can't wait to get started but couldn't figure out how to start. You do a very good job explaining things. That being said, I too have my volume all the way up and I can hear you, it's just that when you talk, your voice fades into a soft monotone as you're explaining things. But keep those video's coming. TFS
Thanks for your comments. You are not the only one that has brought this to my attention. I guess I still have some work to do on my voice, and presentation. I'm glad you like the videos.
beautiful....thank you!!!
just love it
Muchísimas gracias ¡
Wonderful !!
Thank you so much this was so informative
Good job.
Excellent tutorial!:) your voice is sweet!
your scraps are so pretty. I'm guessing English and French style prints
thank you soooo much for the great video.....also the techniques for the leaf fern? stitches...I was thinking of doing this on my current quilt....definitely will now that I see how beautiful it is...I cross stitch so its great to see the stitches on a quilt...will be doing this in the future! :) thanks again
I learned a lot, thank you
Awesome! Thank you so much. New subbie.
volume could be louder I had my pc volume all the way up and it was still hard to hear
Do you do the decorative stitch before you put the squares together with the batting and back or after the whole quilt is sewn together
In the video I show 2 versions, one with foundation fabric and one without. Generally crazy quilts are not sewn with batting, but if you don't use a foundation fabric, you would sew your pieces together, and do your decorative stitches on seams or wherever, then put it together like you would any other quilt with batting, and backing. If you use a foundation fabric, you can use decorative stitches while piecing, and that becomes the quilting that shows on the backside (your foundation piece is actually back of quilt) But you would not want to do embroidery stitches such as french knots, names, etc with foundation piece, since the stitches will show on the back side. You can do those types of stitches on your pieces before you sew them to the foundation piece. It's hard to explain, but hopefully it makes sense.
I enjoyed watching this. I am thinking of starting to crazy quilt....have never done any kind of quilting. How do you know what shapes to cut for your square?
Any shape with a straight edge to sew to another straight edge. Sometime fabric will overlap...you can cut off excess on back side.
Is there a look at the finished quilt? Thank you for sharing your craft!
No, I'm sorry there isn't a photo of the finished quilt, as this is still an ongoing project.
Thank you for responding so quickly. Will you be making more tutorials with it? Do you put your signature on your work? I'm learning quilting. This looks interesting to learn. Thank you again!
Were you using upholstery fabrics in this quilt?
No, just basic cotton fabrics.
Great video, sound a bit quiet.
How do you see blocks together without it getting too bulky? Thx.
It depends on what you want the backside of your quilt to look like. We have another video on how to sew quilt squares together without sashing, and also a video on using fabric strips. There are a variety of ways to connect your squares.
I enjoyed the video but the sound system was not loud enough to hear what you were saying. I hope this can be corrected. The problem is not on my end.
Swatch or pillow?
The sound is way low.
Volume on advertisements is very loud but still after several months, cannot hear your video.
I'm sorry you are having issues with the sound. It doesn't seem to be affecting everyone, but we are working to improve sound on upcoming videos. Thanks for visiting us, and for your input.
I heard you fine.
What is the purpose of sewing the piecing fabric onto the foundation fabric?
It's a method of crazy quilting, called "stitch and flip" or "foundation piecing." Your muslin foundation becomes your backing. Original crazy quilting was done in this manner, then embellished. The foundation fabric gives the quilt stability for embellishments. You can search the internet for more information regarding this method of crazy quilting.
Thank you for your fast reply. I now understand that it is foundation to help with embellishing, but because you state that it is also the backing I have another question. If you use the muslin as the backing does this method not use batting? I will check the web for other demonstrations. Thanks again.
You're welcome, and traditionally, crazy quilts do not have batting. Good luck on your quilting venture. :)
Volume is too low.
I'm sorry that you are having a hard time hearing the video. This has been mentioned before, but doesn't seem to be an issue on this end. Be sure the volume on the actual video is turned up, as well as your computer volume. Thanks for visiting us.
Good. Idea..very poor sound..🇨🇦
Can't hear it...
Turned both volumes up and still could not hear video.
+Bee Ryan I'm sorry you are having problems hearing the video. I tested it on this end and the volume is fine.
same here
Volume was fine here. Very good video, wish I would have wateched one before I made my own version. Now I know.
The audio was to low
