You lost me in the first 15 seconds when you said BvS is an intellectual blockbuster, you need to stop interviewing snyder, you are becoming blind Grace
They attempted to be intellectual in bvs and trip on their thoughts. Ms. Randolph seems to be one of those people that can t see that, possibly deliberately from her part. She did push an anti dc conspiration theory around that time due to the movie s reception.
Mate she compared Zack Snyder to one of the greatest filmmakers ever in Stanley Kubrick when BvS came out. So yeah I wouldn't take her review seriously specially if it's a DC film.
Considering that more than half (66%) of critics gave it positive reviews, and almost 75% of audience reviews were positive, Grace is not in the minority. Do you understand how percentages work?
Wonder Woman’s moral stance can appeal to both genders. You can initially give someone a chance but if they persist to attempt to hurt you, you’re a warrior that can ultimately put them down.
I loved the first Wonder Woman, however this movie did nothing for me. WW was just defined by her relationship from a couple hundred years ago even though there was no point to even having Chris Pines there. The dialog was awful. The character development was silly. The action scenes and choreography just weren't as good as the first film. It felt like a cheesy film from the 80s, not just in the look and feel. It was missing the sophistication in modern comic book movies.
@TJ Tenser Nah, this was a celebration of the 80s. Not some millennials cherry picked idea of the 80s but how an 80s film would have been. This is actually like the original Superman films and WW tv series. Where it wears its earnest sincerity and cheesiness with pride. Before all the cynicism and "sophistication in modern comic book movies" or whatever the hell that's meant to mean rotted our ability to enjoy this sort of stuff. It's the dance montage in The Breakfast Club, it's Mannequin, Short Circuit... Films that actually had heart. The idea there was no "agendas" in the 80s lol. The difference is nobody called it an "agenda" back then and then get all pissy about it. Patty Jenkins did something incredibly brave with this film and trusted we'd go on this little 80s trip with her. Maybe she shouldn't have trusted us. Maybe all the cynicism and "sophistication" (jeez) just means people couldn't.
@@squatch545 Always nice to get a good score from Zimmer, at least. Just hate to see these movies fail so awfully. There are some great actors in the DC universe that are being utilized very poorly.
This review makes me think we watched different movies. WW 1984 was dumb. The opening sequence in the mall was so cheesy and over the top that I almost stopped watching from that point. Unfortunately I did not stop and wasted another 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life. Such a HUGE decline in quality from the first movie. DC took the ONE good movie they have made in the last several years and tarnished it with this turd of a follow-up.
Did you really expect anything else from her? It’s a female led film. Because of that she will give it a positive review despite it being awful. Look at her review of Ghostbusters 2016.
It's possible for something to have loads of problems and still be really good. Some of the best games have loads of problems but the sum of the parts transcends them, and sometimes the problems even make it better.
Exactly thats what I was going to say she is not just either or she is both. She always been a lover but she is never afraid to do battle if she must. Infact she will enjoy it because of her skill set but like she said in the first wonder woman film I believe in love
@@hairynuts2712 well, I didn't want to be insulting. I was being genuine. It's possible to critique or make points without attacking people. And by the way, this movie was pretty brave. It would be easy to make Diana into an edgy, murderous, one-dimensional warrior, like Snyder did. But that misses so much of her character, not to mention makes for a bad hero.
@@O1OO1O1 that movie was dog shit. My wife wanted to leave the theater because it was pure cringe lol I had to convince her to stay. It was that fucking bad.
In my opinion, the classic Wonder Woman who’s an ambassador of peace and carries mostly just her lasso and bracelets is my favorite. Still love her sword and shield warrior feats though
I think that she should only pick up the sword and shield when wars or invasions happen. It would make sense why in DOJ and JL on why she’s still using it. But when she’s just doing her heroic duties she sticks to the lasso.
I'm not up to date on the comics, but I love classic pre-Infinite Crisis Wonder Woman and my favorite quote of hers is: “We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it.” And then after Crisis, I started to not like what they were doing to Wonder Woman's character. I'm biased for her classic peaceful ambassador style, so I absolutely love her live action portrayal with Gadot.
@C C Fax bro idk what she's talking about, ANY SUPERHERO MOVIE is gonna bring in a ridiculous amount of cash regardless of what direction the creative team wants to go with it.
Literally loved the mall scene. So if Grace starts saying "oh, it seems people just don't like this less grounded Wonder Woman" which I guarantee you will happen, she likes to makes those weird conclusions, I'll be prepared to tell her I liked the first scene but there rest of the movie is just not good.
Once again, I disagree strongly with Grace’s rave review of a movie. I’m not trying to be a hater, and I actually respect her as a reporter, but oh boy does she love a lot of movies that I found pretty mediocre.
@@missstar5449 It’s funny, because whenever Grace has nothing but positive things to say about a movie, or totally trashes a movie, I’ll probably have the exact opposite reaction. All the Disney live-action remakes (except Lion King, we both agree on that one), Onward, La La Land, The Accountant, Ad Astra, BvS, both Wonder Woman movies. We do not have the same taste in movies at all.
One of the things I’ll say about cheetah is that she specifically wished to be noticed and to be like Diana to do it. It’s implied that what she lost was her compassion, so she is interested in things that seem superficial instead of what’s below the surface. At least that’s how I read her arc and why she was so focused on the male attention, looking good, and being dexterous in heels.
@@CynsCorner You might want to check that score because its almost Rotten. The comment is not broad (trying not to write spoilers) the film has a ton of problems and its consistently breaking its on rules. Plud how does everything go back normal with everyone remembering what happened. The CGI was horrible and there was no action in the 3rd act.
@@CynsCorner the 3rd act had not that good action. Half the fight was them spinning around on ropes and wires, and WW being pushed away by wishes and wind. But it wasnt even THAT bad at that, some of the scenes were actually enjoyable.
What a trainwreck! First was way better. Lazy story, lazy cgi...lazy everything. And why set in 1984?? With no 80's soundtrack? Best to forget this one!
It's her opinion, and she didn't say Kristen was bad, or that cheetah was horrible. Just that they could have saved them for another film and that the character was shortchanged.

Agreed, I believe the warrior Wonder Woman is the less interesting version of the character while the more compassionate version is as she was intended when created.
@@themadtitan7603 I think both of them are good, Wonder Woman is peacefull, but she has her moments when she has to fight and even kill sometimes It's funny, a being on par with Superman in power but it's so compassionate she prefers to guide her villains into a better path than kick their face in!
@@seekeroftruth9454 I'm not hating on the "warrior" version, but comics are saturated with fierce warriors it's nice to see a more compassionate warrior who choses to be so even with their strength and power.
I totally agree. The perfect Wonder Woman is the one Susan Eisenberg played on the JL show. She embodied the character. I think there is so much more to say and prove with someone who leaves violence to last resort than someone who just leaps in impulsively
Sadly this movie will probably get over that part since a lot of people just want to see characters beating the shit out of each other, just look how the last jedi and the last of us part 2 got hate for doing something similar
One of my fave parts of the WW comics is this quote, "We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it”. The type of risk matters. TLJ was risky because of what it did with the characters--beloved, well-established characters. That's a stupid risk that will likely alienate many. @@samuelaganbi8276 I don’t think that’s the case, people just have preferences and when you hear a superhero movie is more focused on the love and bonds built between characters and less on the action it’s a little worrisome since you may go in thinking it’s more of an action film vs. rom/com. I already see reviews saying this is a rom/com and not really a superhero action film which again is worrisome, but I’m still going to give it a shot.
@@GuitaristJLN I don't feel like the first Wonder Woman had a lot of action in it. I don't think it's lacking action, but instead has more emotional moments than you would expect. Most second films go bigger on action so it seems like it's not that different from the first one in that way. There's action, but it's not jam packed with action.
Lynda Carter's role is not a "jogger" or someone passing on by. She's in a mid-credits scene where she's actually revealed to "still be alive" where as the character she's playing is spoken of only as legend and/or dead and Wonder Woman is actually wearing the character's "golden armor" in that sequence of the film.
maybe that's the whole point. show the warrior on the first film. show the woman on the second film and then show the whole on the third film. makes for a nice perfect trilogy and journey.

This movie was messy and reminded me of Tobey Maguire's Spiderman 3. Scenes with Trevor were great, ditch that cat girl. C+
I did not expect Maxwell to be such a compelling character! He kinda seemed like a one off, one dimensional villain, but it’s awesome to hear otherwise!

*SPOILER* So if she can fly and turn things invisible why didn’t she use any of those abilities in BvS or Justice League? I love with they did with the character, but it isn’t consistent with what we’ve seen.
This movie doesnt sound as good as i was expecting it to be. I 'll give it a chance but barely any action. No explanation why she turned up as a cheetah.
I love when Grace says she’s a Batman person, it beautifully explains the reason I don’t always agree with her. I’m not a Batman person, but I adore Graces reviews regardless...I’m a Capt guy
Partner in life? They knew each other for two weeks tops. Literally the first male she saw. And literally every other male is portrayed as a creep. I lived the eighties, not all men were creeps back then, just as they aren't now. If they do end up making a third movie, the ONLY chance it has is if they fix this dumpster fire is if they make it a nightmare Wonder Woman is having - and it never happened. That way the DC Universe would be restored and perhaps the faith of the character would be restored as well.
By this point it's clear that whenever there's an action film with a female lead Grace will mark out and give it a much kinder review than it deserves. She can't be unbiased when it comes to strong female leads.
I give Wonder Woman 1984 a 5 out of 10. I think The Last Jedi is better than this movie. It's on the level of Solo for me. Or even Spider-Man 3. A promising first 30 minutes. Then it completely lost me after it with the ridiculous story.
You cried to MARTHAAAA, and justice league? I think both universes have a fair share of emotional movies. I don't mean any bad thing with the Martha thing, it's a joke.
I cried only to aquaman in DC, but infinity war, endgame and civil war from marvel, I guess it's the devotion and connection you have to the characters. Sorry for writing all this
You asked why is it pivotal for a woman's looks being needed to attract the attention of men. The answer is in the title. 1984. there's nothing to correct. Don't try to appear woke by either forgetting, or trying to change, history and facts.
I’m sad they didn’t make any references to the famous book ‘1984.’ Especially relevant now when populations are getting locked and our lives are being controlled more intimately by higher powers who think it’s all for the greater good.

the more you are involved in the business the less objective you get from the outside perspective. You may understand the filmmaker better and even have a personal connection to them, but this makes it even harder to trash a bad movie. You mostly see the positive aspects, since you think you better understand what the filmmakers want to say with the movie, but this isn't really grounded in the reality of the movie consumer. At that point you're already inside the big movie business bubble and probably lose your reputation for being an independent critic.

True
2/10 insult to women, ridiculous plot, substandard acting and horrendous cgi. Don't even bother.

Grace's ability to NOT see the problems in this movie is amazing to me!
She actually pointed out a lot of issues and contrasted the good and the bad. 🙄
It's possible for something to have loads of problems and still be really good. Some of the best games have loads of problems but the sum of the parts transcends them, and sometimes the problems even make it better.

In my opinion, the classic Wonder Woman who’s an ambassador of peace and carries mostly just her lasso and bracelets is my favorite. Still love her sword and shield warrior feats though
I prefer Wonder Woman use her lasso more and show her skill using it in battle.
I think that she should only pick up the sword and shield when wars or invasions happen. It would make sense why in DOJ and JL on why she’s still using it. But when she’s just doing her heroic duties she sticks to the lasso.
@@kylerohan3841 PERFECT
@@kylerohan3841 Agreed. When she has the sword and shield against Doomsday or Darkseid etc it makes sense. But against lower level villains? No
I'm not up to date on the comics, but I love classic pre-Infinite Crisis Wonder Woman and my favorite quote of hers is: “We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it.”
And then after Crisis, I started to not like what they were doing to Wonder Woman's character. I'm biased for her classic peaceful ambassador style, so I absolutely love her live action portrayal with Gadot.

the more you are involved in the business the less objective you get from the outside perspective.
