Loved watching Plank hit them hard. Had not seen anyone play hit that hard on defense for the Bears since Butkus more than a decade earlier. Core of the defense. Inspired the whole group. 46 defense named after Doug #46 .
Probably more amazing than the ferocity with which Plank played is how clearly he still thinks after all those hard hits. I loved watching him play and love hearing his stories and perspective after all these years. One of a kind. Thanks for the memories, Doug.
The Hitmen! Plank and Fencik. Loved watching the Bears D during the early to mid-80s. Wish the current Bears players could see his pride and passion as a Bear and make great things happen on Sundays.
There will never be another team like the 1985 Chicago Bears. That is a once in a lifetime deal. They had the respect from everyone in the NFL including an entire city and further. I seriously believe that Ditka brought more to the table than just his experience coaching. He represented all those who had played their heart out like Butkus and Sayers and Morris and many more to this game in this time. That is what I think made that team. Buddy Ryan didn't have that Philadelphia and when Ditka didn't have that in New Orleans. There was the magic that made this all happen and it cannot be repeated.
Hey Mr. Doug Plank Sir..... Please, PLEASE run for Mayor of Chicago. I know you would do very very well in a mayoral election. Everyone remembers you and what you were, what you stand for. WE need some Chicago respected, retired Sports celebrity or coach to run for mayor and save our city like Mayor Giuliani did in New York City. Our Chicago City is falling down - schools reverting to the 1980s when they were pronounced "The worst in the USA" by then Secretary of Education William Bennett. Crime, car jackings, organized mass looting.... Sigh. We need a strong Bears guy like you. You look and sound sharp, not senile like Sleepy Joe Biden. Who do we talk with to get you to run?
