  • In this video I show you my experience in saving Phalaenopsis orchids. I show you three methods to save and reanimate orchids. One Phalaenopsis is without any roots, the other has some roots, saved after root rot. The third Phalaenopsis has only aerial roots.
    You can try any of these methods to reanimate your orchids so that they start to grow new roots.

      So many questions!!! I am assuming you are referring to the orchid that had the bad stem/no roots. How many minutes a day do you leave the leafs in water. Do you do this daily till roots appear? How long are the new roots before you place the plant in a new pot with fresh media? I have two phalenopsis orchids that almost all the roots are dead, but a reasonably healthy stem and want to save them

    Anna I just found your video and thank you so much for sharing!! I normally do well saving Orchids from root and crown rot by using, and misting Orchid bark while suspending the Orchid above the medium by staking it to an Orchid stake so the humidity surrounding it will help!! But I have two rootless Orchids that I'm having trouble with getting them to root!! I can't wait to try your methods!!💖🤗🙏🏼

    Anna hello, thank you for your content, its hard to find detailed information online, only general. I wish to share with you one more way I discovered to save an orchid with or without roots which has worked for me, clip the base of the stem and keep it in water for 12 hours, then allow to dry for 12 hours, repeating the cycle for a month. Allowing it to dry will prevent any rotting and the plant can drink. I learnt this lesson when I discovered that the aerial roots of a rescue orchid were not delivering the water to the stem, although they seemed healthy and long and were dipped in quite a lot of water. In hindsight I could have made a green house too.

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  4 года назад

      That's such a great advice! Thanks a lot! I am definitely going to try it. I feel that although this orchid in the greenhouse is giving roots, but it's really slow and then plant needs to properly drink. Just the air humidity and the moss with the water on the base of the greenhouse don't seem to be enough for 3+ months already. The base of the orchid is pretty dry now, do you mean I shall cut it into the green tissue so that it can absorb water, or shall I put it just like that in the water with 12 hours intervals?

    • @kw2300
      @kw2300 4 года назад

      @@AnnasViolets I cut mine until I reached a more green stem but only because I didn't know how much of the stem was dead and therefor not allowing water to pass though it. I then left to dry for 12 hrs before submerging in water for the night to prevent any rotting. It subsequently turned brown of course but I knew it was close enough to live tissue to continue absorbing water. This seemed to work very well, I hope it helps you :)

    • @kw2300
      @kw2300 4 года назад

      Just want to add that I overwatered one just now and it rotted, I think the water level was too high or I kept it there for too long. Perhaps a couple of hrs a day is better than overnight. Or perhaps cutting to the green was too much. Just some further thoughts.

    Good afternoon Anna, hope your safe and doing well. So I have another smaller Phal that lost all of its roots except for two aerial roots. And I know they always say never to force the aerial roots into any medium, but I used your second method but took a chance and very gently placed one aerial root into the jar with the water. To my shock it is literally growing two new roots. I don't know if that would always work but I'm so grateful for your great tips, have a blessed rest of the week Anna!!❤️🥰🙏🏼

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  2 года назад +1

      That's another amazing story, Aida. Yes, sometimes aerial roots get rotten, if planted in the medium, but if they get slowly used to it, they grow perfectly. In the case of your orchid, if it had only aerial roots, I think you did everything right and you have great results. You are an orchid expert now. :) It's quite complicated to save orchids will all rotten roots. Great job! 🪴

    Hello Anna! How are you? ☺️
    I was hoping you could help me out with my dying orchid…
    So, I’ve had an orchid since March 2021, it was doing great, lost its flowers in June but it grew some leaves after it. It started blooming again this January, and it was looking great. I never overwatered it, only watered when I saw the roots starting to get grey, usually once a week. However, I noticed that the medium started getting some mold, and also saw that some roots were getting rot about a month ago, so I repotted it with some new medium and cut off all the dead roots. However the leaves are starting to get yellow and mushy, and the roots are rotting again… it has a lot of flowers and leaves but only a few yellow roots. I don’t know what to do! Could you, please, help me? ☹️

    • @AnnasViolets
      @AnnasViolets  2 года назад +1

      Hey Carolina, mold in the medium and mushy roots are not a good situation. Even though you watered it once a week, maybe during winter months it was still too much. I think that it's better to repot the orchid into fresh medium, as there may be some bacteria causing root rot in this one (as the roots continue to rot). But before planting the orchid again, maybe use hydrogen peroxide 3%. You will need to dilute one part of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts of water in a spray bottle and spray the roots. Maybe even plant it in leca, not bark.

      Hey Bunga. Let's start from the cause. Why is it dehydrated? Even if it's blooming, the roots may still be rotten. Is the pot transparent? Do you see the roots? Maybe you can try to use humidifier next to it? Don't overwater. 🌸
