    What's the rule when say there's only two steel beams affecting a line in obstructed construction? When can the sprinklers return to 1-12 below deck?

    • @NFPAJoe
      @NFPAJoe  2 месяца назад

      You should go back to 1-12” below the deck as soon as the beams that are above the heads are spaced over 7’-6” on center. You could keep them at 1”-12” down even if it is obstructed construction as long as the spray pattern isn’t obstructed by the beams. You can figure that out using the beam rule. Going 1-6 inches below the structural members, max 22” is just an option. Let me know if this helps !

      I only have two beams about 20" in depth and 5' apart that run horizontally across the center of the branch line. One head falls directly under the pocket of the beams and the rest of the heads on the line are spaced 8' spart. My question is what distance can I go back to 1-12 on the other side of the beams? The next head after the beam is 3'9 from the side if it. Can I run that head and the rest down the line at 1-12"?

      @@austinhologroski yes! Sounds like you can run that head and the rest down the line at 1”-12”.

      @jetsgang It applies in wood structure ceiling ( or combustible insulation ) you got to protect both. Or when there is 2 sets of wood joists.

      Above and below coverage can have a lot of different situations. Definitely can be because of combustible construction above the ceiling like mentioned or could be for cloud ceilings, or slatted ceilings. Are you in any of these or putting heads above and below obstructions like duct work ?

    • @jetsgang5266
      @jetsgang5266 3 месяца назад

      @@NFPAJoe the duct takes up almost whole room it’s was a electrical room duct was tight to concrete deck so head is obstructed…it no Ceiling in room all uprights it didn’t make sense me cuz we only added 1 head above on one side of room meaning that head was blocked from deck it’s not going spray the other side of the room

      @@NFPAJoe I can tell from the tone of your voice . I started in the field 97 but I been taking time off few years here and there , however I was lucky to work with a good foreman like yourself in service. He had my hands on in every dry pipe that exist out there. Internal resets were fun back in the days.
