Can’t believe I’m just now finding this. What a great tune and the guitar work is excellent. I started out playing surf music in ‘62. Thought it had died off until Los Straight Jackets and The Mermen showed up. Whoever put this up, thank you.

Eddie and the drummer on this, Dick Dodd were great friends. I think of them and miss them daily. several weeks before his passing, he had a big beer and pizza bash at my house for Eddie. Of course the guitars came out and everyone had a great time. Eddie left drunk and happy. A few years later, I was with Dick at the hospital when he passed. Dick was in the process of a comeback when he learned he had cancer. Dick and Eddie were both fun guys just to hang out with. It was really sad watching their health decline. Both were 67 when they passed.

This was one of the songs that the Surf Raiders covered in the early '80s and Bob Dalley did a pretty good job of it on lead guitar, though this of course is the definitive recording. I played sax with the Surf Raiders but on this cut it was Dave Rodriquez's drums and Bob's Strat all the way. Mr. Rebel (which we didn't do) was a cool song too. One must go one's own way eventually, but it was fun recreating some of those classics of my youth.

thanks to Los Straitjackets, Eddie and other legendary surf instrumental bands aren't being forgotten. They get the respect of today's surf bands for laying the foundation and blazing the trail for all the players to follow.

These guys were the best in LA at the hieght of the surf music craze - that is, next to Dick Dale.

Remember seeing Eddie and the Showman at Retail Clerks union hall in Buena park, Ca in the mid 60's every Saturday night. Used to help carry in their equipment and got in for free

Guitar players: Don't be fooled, that tremolo picked section is quite difficult to play. It's very precise.

I feel like this be could an early form of metal. Especially for the tremolo picking aspect.
