@@DummyRound I have the Lee trimmer for it, so I'm going to use it. Some of those cases are so far under SAMMI spec, it makes me think someone trimmed them without any clue how to measure.
@@novicereloader I think some of them come short from the factory sometimes, but I'm sure some body has trimmed them short before as well. I'm going to eventually do all my 38spl cases, but that's pretty far down the list of projects.
For 9mm, do some people not bother trimming? If so, do they trim the ones they have loaded HOT or maybe just over time or maybe never trim at all? Currently, I use a Lyman case length gauge sheet metal looking item and have trimmed only 6 or 8 out of maybe 300 I have loaded so far. I kind of sort my brass also...with Blue Bunny containers too along side old Folgers containers :)
My understanding is that most people don't bother trimming much of the straight wall stuff because it doesn't stretch like bottle neck brass does. So far, I've only found four that are longer than SAAMI spec, and they all passed the plunk test before I trimmed them. If I had the Lee factory crimp die, rather than the taper crimp die, I don't think I would be bothering with the case length.
For rifle, I only sort out a few specific headstamps, and then have a giant mixed bucket. For 9mm, I just sort by crimped or not. Good stuff👍👊🇺🇸
I found that the 9mm I have are wildly different in case length. I decided to sort them to make it easier to use the crimp die.
@@novicereloader makes sense to me. You can even trim it you want, but many argue it is pointless in 9mm, 40sw, 45, etc.

@@DummyRound I'm hoping that I can get all of each group to the same length to make the use of the crimp die more efficient.
I sort the crap out of everything, all the time, learned my lessons early. Mike
"If you're excited by this one, I'm terribly sorry" hahaha
