Using Sherline Mini Lathe to Make Bicycle Stainless Steel Bolts.

- Hi Fellows!
This was how I made stainless steel bolts for an expensive bicycle.
As always, using my Sherline mini lathes, the 4410 for turning, and the 4100 to make threads.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
Note, I made these two bolts from scratch using Sherline mini lathes.
Generally, the job that Sherline CNC machines do in my shop/lab are for Bicycles, Cars, Motorcycle, Watches, Firearms, Aero-model, and all my own tools and accessory etc.
Thank you for watching, likes and comments :) Наука
It's finally evening here and I get to watch this undisturbed.
Thanks Luiz.
Thank you my friend, wish you and family a Merry Christmas.
Have a good night.
@@tryally Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones as well my friend.

Thank you for the views of your workshop in addition to the workpiece.
Hi Ron, thank you very much for watching my video.
I'm getting old and the space it's getting small, lol
I wanted to see a bicycle turned to a mini lathe !
Thank you Luiz, you are a master.
Thank you for watching my vids!
Thanks for such a great video. You inspire us all.
Chris, thanks for watching, glad you enjoy my video.
The master of the Sherline machines! Great work!
Bob, thank you so much for watching my video, glad you liked it.
Ahoy! Someone may have said this already, but that bolt is made out of aluminum so that it is the weakest point in the linkage between the shock absorber, and the frame. If there is too much stress put on that system, ideally the bolt will fail, and should leave the frame and the shock undamaged. With the stainless steel bolt, if too much stress is put on the system, it will probably crack the mounting flanges on the top tube of that bike frame. Just something you might want to pass along to your friend. ALSO your videos are fantastic! Thank you very much for sharing your process, it is deeply satisfying to watch a master like yourself work these incredible machines. I am hoping to get into machining in the future, and your demonstrations of what can be done with these Sherline machines, and the right knowledge, is incredibly encouraging.
Thanks for watching and commenting for sure.
I said the same thing to my friend when he came to me.
But he said he wanted stainless steel screws because the original aluminum ones would wear out prematurely.
He had also changed these screws several times and was bored.
I suggested that he use it carefully so as not to damage other parts of the bike.
Thank you again.
Luiz
Nice, esp. since it was done in stainless :) Greetings from Germany, Stefan.
Stefan, thank you so much for watching my videos and following my channel as well, I'm glad you liked this video too.

I've been watching your videos for years. When did you get your tool post for sale? Congratulations! It looks fantastic! I can't wait to try it! It's unbelievable that you've included 10 tool holders!! Seriously amazing deal! As always, beautiful work!

They are fantastic for all kinds of work.
I'm sure you will love.
Luiz, always an inspiration to watch your videos. Tim Tim, my friend! :-)
Thank you so much my friend, and this video it is because of people like you what inspire me to make each more. Merry Christmas Tim Tim!!
(me desculpe se a pergunta for idiota .... sou iniciante)
No corte o esforço é maior o esforço e é sempre recomendável a lubrificação.
@@tryally Valeu Luiz, obrigado!

He visto que has hecho varias modificaciones.
Estava no mercado livre.
Luiz Ally.
Ok on this lathe you have a large pulley and normal sized belt. What specs are the motor? 4 jaw Sherline chuck is hard to find used. Is the Penn one ok?
Can your tool post/tool holder set work with a Unimat SL/DB?? What modifications are needed??
Hi Bob, if your Sl/DB is using a riser block, the Tryally's QCTP will works well, anyway I'm working in specific QCTP model for Unimat series lathe.
Thank you for your interest.
Luiz Ally
@@tryally Luiz, my UNIMAT does not use a riser block.
@@BobLewen When the QCTP model for Unimat is ready I will let you know in the Unimat Facebook group and here on RUclips as well.
@@tryally Thank You Luiz. I hope to see it here!!
How did you attach that chuck to the lathe?
@yonatanreiffman,
Jonathan, it's a proper chuck for this lathe, 3/4-16 Thread.
Was that your question?
Can you please provide a link for purchase of this chuck? I want to buy this lathe with a 3 Jaw Chuck, but not soft jaw.
@@yonatanreiffman
Take a look at this: www.sherline.com/product/4-jaw-independent-chuck/#description
not right - you need an exit groove - it's not about how cool it looks, it's about nut to not be jammed if screwed all the way up
I made the screw exactly like the manufacturer's, the thread doesn't reach all the way when screwed all the way up.
Thank you for your comment.
Oh ye, bycicle theme. Some entusiasts change all possible parts and fixture to titanium alloys made to reduce weight as much as possible.
Yes it is true what you said, many bike shops come to me for parts like this.
Thanks for watching.
A Merry Christmas to you and your family.
@@tryally
- Thx, wish you same.
Only berillium alloys are lighter, and much higher price. Newer had seen them.
@@hztn It is good to know about berillium alloys, I had not heard of these alloy.
I will look for more information.
- I'd only heard that bycicle frames made from berillium exist, and they`re even lighter than magnesium. It not even used in aerospace, only for sattelite parts and ultra-high tech. Also berilluim dust is toxic.
@@hztn Thank you for the info my friend, always good to learn new things about materials
Those bolts are gonna rip through the bikes material.... I see them being way to strong...
You know, I thought the same as you, but it was the customer's request, but to my surprise it's working perfectly so far.
