I use to head to the back right hand corner of that store between 1993-98 religiously just to find an 80's metal cassette that i might have missed from the glory days . Still mostly only into rock and metal from 83-92 .
I gave Brendon the First thumbs up on this video. Had to wake up at 4:01 AM Mountain Standard Time. Anthony needs to get a t-shirt with his face on it that says: "Don't Be A Dick" as I would get 2 of them in size Large. He has said that phrase many times, he should own it. These days it is hard to find somebody who talks straight with no bullshit. Anthony is like that and that's why I greatly like him. It is also why I like this channel and Brendon. We live in an age where B.S. is king and you've got always "read between the lines", but not with you two. So not to be weird or anything but I want to throw out a hug to you both as a friend. Thanks for always making my day brighter.
Wish I lived closer....that store is cd heaven! Anthony is a cool guy....you too Brendon. Love the videos with you guys!!! I had reached out to Anthony online before...got right back to me....just sent a list for a few things...waiting to hear back. I will keep buying cds till I can't. I do email not Instagram...old school 😂 . I worked in a record store for 6 years...yes its fun but more work than people think. Hats off to Anthony for keeping physical media alive.
Here in the rainy city of Vancouver,Canada. Roughly 2.4 Millions with its suburbs and an average of 4 Millions tourist a year. Any commercial space in the downtown core and its boundaries go from 100 to 250$ a squarefoot. In Suburbs the cheapest ones go from 70$ to 150$. Plus the power, plus strata fee, maintenance fee and yes most of these c s will charge you the yearly property tax divided on 12 months. You must be in a good city.
Thanks again these are great man. As someone with a goal of starting an online store and then a physical store in the next decade or so it’s soo cool to get this insight. I’ve always known that the 80/20 rule is big with record stores, any store really, but that basically there’s a few different breads and butters that make each section of these few years or those few years work
I really dig your channel Brendon, and I love the videos featuring Sound Exchange and Anthony. That guy is so real! Keep doing these, they are exceptional!
Fantastic video ! Have a day off tomorrow- making the quick drive to visit for the 1st time. Cant wait! I still grab vinyl, but I’ve swapped back to CDs…. Too much great music for a great price. Looking forward to finding some gems !
Record organization! When I shopped at Wentzel's in Downey, California (which originally was a recording studio where The Chantays recorded "Pipeline") I always had to confirm the rule to "keep the dot in the upper right corner" when browsing the used 45 singles in their plastic sleeve protectors in the back room.
I really love these videos of you and Anthony in the store. They are so interesting and funny too. I really want to visit this store one of these days. Very cool Brendon. Your videos are a daily highlight.
I love music and can listen to most but my love is 80's Glam Metal!! We didn't call it that back in the day but 80's and early 90s Rock/metal is what I love and what I buy. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Exactly stupid term. Back then it was Hard Rock then Heavy Metal,Speed Metal,Black Metal and Thrash Metal. The term and genre Power Metal came in late 90s from European Bands. Even if we were familiar with the band Helloween by the mid 80s we called it Heavy Metal. These guys are referred as Godfathers of Power Metal in Europe.
Aloha Brendon , I really enjoy all your videos, but I really love the ones you do at this Store. Thanks again for another awesome video with Anthony. Mahalo Ed
Yeah there is a different kind of energy when Anthony and I get together. It’s nice being able to mix things up on the channel. Thankfully he enjoys filming these episode with me! 👍
You hit it on the nail, when you buy a cd or record and play it, that is what you get instead commercial adds to no end of iheart extra. Everything has gone woke, I have just started to just put in a cd and start listening just like when I was a kid.
These videos with Anthony make me wanna be a little more brave in talking to my local record store guys. I tend to be introverted and think my questions will be dumb or too obvious but maybe i should just ask next time.
Yeah totally! No question is ever “dumb”. It might seem simple but it could be complex and that’s why it’s good to ask. And if they don’t want to talk to you then it’s their loss! Good luck…I’m an introvert myself so know exactly how you feel. 😂
Hi guys I've seen a recent interview steve brown from trixter goes in sound exchange and bought ace frehleys new album 10,000 volts that's cool as he co produced the album .
I miss record shops - not many left here in the UK where I live. -the amount of times I blind bought albums just because of the cover ha ha. I buy everything online these days, love my vinyls cds and tapes - extreme metal is my bag, thrash death grind and black - im 51 yrs old and been the same for the last 30 years
I wish I had a record store by me!! Growing up we had a few good ones besides the big stores in the malls!! We have a great store but it's not very close and I haven't checked on them since covid but I'm handicap and I couldn't get around in the store nowadays. My wheelchair definitely don't fit but even with my walker I would struggle!! I found a few great sellers on ebay but it's hard to find things I want but I do find deals but I would love to have a store like that!!
Hey Brendon and Anthony another great video as always... Question, what happened to the TT that Anthony dropped? Was it a total loss?? 😢 Felt very bad for Anthony on that one.
I am a HUGE fan Of Green Jelly. I am Searching High and low for the original Green JELLO Cereal Killer LP Cover before the lawsuit. I want to buy it but peeps on Ebay want way tooo much! I go to record stores to see who may have it. There are only a few but man, I WANT IT SO BAD! I would love to see if Anthony has it. I live in Utah. I WILL PAY EXTRA FOR SHIPPING!
Hey guys! Good stuff as always. I have a question for Anthony for a future episode: how do you separate Anthony the collector and Anthony the shop owner? I am thinking about opening a record store myself but I'm constantly thinking about how am I going to contain myself from always taking things home with me for my personal collection. Cheers guys!
I would actually love it if there were more record stores. I hate ordering online and waiting two weeks for it to show up. Plus, if I walk into a store I may see something ELSE I didn't know existed and get that too, or something that's on a deep sale and can add to my collection for cheap. I walked into Target today to get the Special Edition of the new Judas Priest album and it wasn't on the floor. Plenty of Taylor Swift and Kpop but no Priest, so I left. Only to find out later that they had it but it was "In the back". So they lost a sale by simple stupidity. (I did GET the cd as a friend of mine picked it up at HER Target and will give it to me on Thursday.) But I think a record store would alleviate a lot of that not being able to find stuff. Of course that JP CD is exclusive to Target but you get what I mean. I would love to see a record store resurgence. I used to love going into the stores at whatever mall I was at and just wandering around for a while. I think the kids of today would like that as well once they are aware of it.
Real quick, the way you guys were talking about how Anthony listens to the radio (my names Anthony haha) and it’s nicer these days to not choose what you’re going to listen to, that’s how I’ve been treating my music collection, it’s all out of order and I just spin the next album in the stack and I can’t say how much more interesting every song is when you didn’t choose to listen to it and it just came on
I found some great gems at the store. Like a CD from Don McLean that’s hard to get as well as a few other artists. Lots of out of print or hard to find CDs/records. You’re just not gonna find online. I dislike shopping online.
Hello Brendon Hello Anthony, here in France (Eu) the major distributors practice price reductions at the release of recordings momentarily, can you report these momentary reductions in your selling prices
I've got an interesting question. For big collections, do you guys have your music assured? Like if anything happens, God forbid. Cause you guys have invested a chunk of change in them.
The deli next door has a creaky screen door that makes that noise every time a customer exits or enters. The cash register where they are filming in right next to the door so unfortunately that noise from outside can be heard on the video
Never very big here in the US so not as many copies floating around. They have also been on many different labels which most are defunked so albums are out of print. Makes collecting harder.
I use to head to the back right hand corner of that store between 1993-98 religiously just to find an 80's metal cassette that i might have missed from the glory days . Still mostly only into rock and metal from 83-92 .
Physical media can't be cancelled. That's the main driving force for me to ditch streaming.

You two are freaking awesome. 🔥 I could listen to your conversations for hours. 🔥 Always very interesting topics. 🔥
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the banter between us! We always have a good time filming and discussing topics. 👍

Our local record store closed down.We need a New tecord store where i live.
I wouldn't know what to do if there were no record stores.
Life would be hell😢
Looks like a great place !
QUESTION - Out of interest, how many people here make their living off an 'online only' music store? or own a record store? drop your names below 🙂

Nope, it got repaired and sold as intended. Didn’t even sit in the store a week. I was glad to see it moved so quickly.
Man with every video I want to go there more and more! Its just so far away 😞 maybe one day....
Make a trip out of it. Anthony has had people fly in from California, Canada, London, Germany and more just to shop.👍
Great topic, fellas! Question for Anthony, is shoplifting/shrink a big problem you experience in the business?
I live in North Carolina but I'm going to ride my ass up there one day and stop in
That would be awesome! Make sure to allow several hours to go through everything. For me it’s usually a 3 hr visit.
I dont see any cassettes in the store. I am huge into them and they are very fun to collect.
They are on shelves in 4 different places in the store, there isn’t a whole “cassette wall”.
Was there a few weeks back for the first time in about 10 years. Organization was great compared to how the store use to be.
When it comes to music, to hell with streaming!. Physical media is the BEST!! I prefer CDs. Can one order online from The Sound Exchange?

What do you think about these newer cars not having CD players?
Is why I won't buy a new car; Suburu has a few models that still do, but that's it.
I bought a $100 portable CD player that plugs into the car's USB port. Problem solved. 💿
@@michaelhein5455 I didn’t know those existed. I might have to look into one myself.
