Great transparency in this video. There's definitely built-in value in organization - walking into a well-organized record shop, and finding the EXACT title you're looking for within minutes. If you're lucky you might find the same title at a thrift on the right day at the right time, but it could take a half a day of sifting thru crap at multiple thrifts to find it (I've done just that). What's a record store? Seriously, I miss the days when they were everywhere: any mall or shopping center had one, from the big national chains to little Mom & Pops. Within a short driving distance, I remember ten or twelve I went to often. (Same with book stores. Similarly, mostly vanished.)
Love thrse videos inside the record store. I live in the UK and work at a recycle centre.the amount of cds/vinyl that people chuck away every week is mind boggling.
At HMV in the UK, there are many Vinyl Records that get sold for 3 for £55 and on many different genres and artists, some that haven't been out long and they get added to it, which is fine, but sometimes it can get a bit excessive with what albums you want. However, I also bought albums on Vinyl that I sometimes buy brand new at £25, and after a few months that it's gone up by £5, and it annoys me when they do that, but I have my copy already. At HMV as well, sometimes you get CDs at reasonable prices, sometimes adding newer CDs at 2 for £16 and getting CD box sets for £15 or whatever, and sometimes new artists release their debut albums on CD for lower prices than normal new albums and that drives me crazy, however and I have seen some Compilation Albums being at £5, even new compilation albums released and it drives me crazy as well, but then again it how it sells. Some new releases are around £12-15 when they used to be £10 or less back then.

In the old days consumers were completely robbed for buying records. Now record stores have to play with tighter margins thanks to streaming and RUclips.
My girlfriend and I collect vinyls and I came across this video and it's amazing! I really appreciate what you and Anthony talked about with the whole "collectors" situation when it comes to vinyls. I collect wrestling magazines, and I am finding the same problem with buying them online now. People think because a wrestling magazine is from 1991 it should be $50 plus $25 shipping. No, it should be $10 max with minimum shipping costs. People are just out to get so much money off collectors now that it makes it almost impossible to enjoy collecting, or may even drive you out of collecting all together. If people want vinyls, magazines, or whatever you are selling to move and for ya to make money, sell at a reasonable price!
I gotta question for you. Why do some record stores burn incense? Have ran into that with three different stores in the three states that cover for work. Is there a smell vinyl contacting with old cardboard that makes an evil smell that's only lessened by incense?

Turn table the 1200 cleaning up it’s a direct drive unit have to worry about the belt put a new cartridge in there fairly nice order or something like that and that’s where 700 $800 guaranteed the doors will open the phone or whatever will fall apart you have that turntable for 1200 with a decent order fine cartridge you’ll make some money it’s too valuable and anyone knows Turn table will tell you the 1200 a great Turn table with a lot more you stole it now quadruple your profit
This hobby is going to die with CDs and records priced at $40+, this is just not sustainable. Owning a record store is a tough business, profit margins are so slim and sales are very unpredictable.
5 years ago I was paying somewhere around $18-25 for a record. Now prices are at $30-35. Add taxes and shipping. I basically had to stop collecting for the moment, not sustainable at all. Now every record purchase has to be this big consideration, it being this expensive is not why I got into this hobby in the first place.
“Don’t be a dick with your prices”. What a line.
More record stores should have this philosophy. Especially pricing used product at collector prices.
It’s the golden rule of life IMO!
My favorite is record stores who go straight to discogs and price a rare record 20 percent over the highest priced sale.
