Crossfit is an expensive sport, not a chance that young people can afford it.... that is the main reason why people in open are dominat 25 years old or older
@glennchamberlain1737 In what world is it cheaper? As in for a young adult. I can buy a new racquet, shoes, and yearly membership to a tennis club for less than $500 right now. Way less investment if it were football (soccer) or basketball. At best CrossFit is $100 a month so that’s $1200 this year alone not including any gear investments. While my other sports equipment will be good for years and I’ll only have league memberships that total $150 for the year which is a month (maybe) of CrossFit. If you try to do CrossFit at home to compete then you’re looking at several thousands to purchase all that you would need regarding weights, rigs, cardio machines, etc. What am I missing?
As mentioned already by others, the cost to join a CrossFit gym is insane. My closest gym starts at £85 and that's for 2 sessions a week, up to £120pm for unlimited. Most budget/average gyms cost around £20-30 a month for 24/7 access and have much more equipment. The average young person probably can't afford CrossFit prices.
I agree I love Crossfit and have been in and out of Crossfit gyms and find it heaps more enjoyable than a regular gym but considering my current gym is $5 p/W AUD and the nearest Crossfit gym is $45 PW as much as I love the style of training but I just can't justify the price
@@arthurtheaardvark13no it’s not. A lot of CrossFit coaches are useless. Some are great but there is no guarantee much like with any other coach. The pricing of CrossFit gyms is just insane and the CrossFit cult is still strong. For reference I used to go to a CrossFit box but left due to the escalating price (lack of open gym) and the horribly cult like atmosphere.
Yeah, whos affording a crossft membership at 19 years old?. My gym costs 200 a month in London. Unless mummy and daddy are paying for you, young people just cant afford it.
Agree, i aways am thinking - how can ppl who go to the boxes can afford it, especially young ones, i only can bc i have a deal with the box as i help to clean the crossfit gym and can go whenever
My old gym was $50NZD a week for unlimited classes and gym acces or $39 a week for 3 classes and gym access $200NZD. Not cheap, but maybe not as expensive as most
Agreed. I thinking pricing is a very big issue for the younger working age bracket as it pertains to membership fees. Our gym is near 2 colleges and we even see a struggle in getting younger members due to pricing.
Hell I'm 37 and can't afford a crossfit membership, gyms in my area start at $300 a month. I found a boxing gym that has free weights and a rig that I can go to for $80 a month and work with that. Would love to go to an actual box but that just isn't reasonable.
Love the videos bro - keep’em coming! The non-CrossFit news videos are great too. Also really enjoy all the funny clips and memes you throw in to keep them even more entertaining. Great work!
This is my first year doing it. I'm 41. So not a key demographic, but I've enjoyed doing the same workouts that the elite athletes do. I think the whole open concept is really fun. Are people really concerned if CrossFit doesn't grow that much? There are a lot of very challenging sports that I would assume show stagnation. Do they worry if there's less marathon runners and things like that? I guess it's different because there are less major events in CrossFit. Idk.
I imagine there are 229 fewer affiliates signed up as they've just shut. Increased bills, rent and CrossFit costs coupled with people's own disposable income falling means places just closing down.
DQT is super painful- I had it after my first born, and it didn't go away until after I stopped breastfeeding. I give her a lot of credit for pushing through!
Regarding the age group participation: CrossFit has historically been a sport for former athletes who miss a team environment. I wouldn’t expect teens or early 20s to be participating because of a) cost and b) they’re still competing in their own sports respectively.
a large barrier to entry for crossfit is money... the younger generation doesn't have/ want to spend extra income on crossfit if they can spend less money at other gyms. As crossfitters we know there is value to the cost of a monthly memebership but some gyms have upwards of $200 or more for an unlimited membership and $150 for just a couple of days a week (which isn't going to get you consistent results that you look for when you join crossfit). I don't have a solution but I think some changes need to happen to lower that barrier to entry for a lot of people.
Craig, great vid and thank you for the update. On your last point, I have wondered about Seth Rollins for a while. He did an interview about the contents of his gym bag and he pulled out a speed skipping rope, a rogue belt and gymnastic grips. He is clearly a crossfitter and I know a lot of WWE-ers use cleans in their training.
My old Crossfit gym dropped Crossfit and since then they have gone from 2 locations to now 5 locations. I think the Crossfit brand was holding them back to be honest.
For many it was. Suffered from their own early PR. European level-1 courses literally saved CrossFit from going under as US numbers fell off the map. We’ll see the same decline in the next few years there and South America as they too realize the affiliate isn’t needed to maintain their community and that CF certification isn’t needed nor legitimized outside of the space. The bug hasn’t left them like it has in the states. The 2013-2018 CrossFit hype won’t be seen again as the novelty is no longer unique.
Yep, I just think the younger peeps are paying for college and other stuff and don’t have the cash to sign up for the open, that’s my guess. Great vids as always guys!:)
I didn't start crossfit until I was 40. I think there are lots of people who finally have the money and time to start crossfit later in life. Crossfit affiliates should target them!
I think cost could be a problem, I’m 22 now. I have found a way to afford with by having a roommate. Also, I thinks it’s high time that CrossFit took advantage of celebrities and athletes that train with the methodology. Be cool if Seth Rollins is used more too, since he is a big promoter of CrossFit.
Think it’s cool Rollins doing the open announcement, maybe a bit more exposure for crossfit plus I think he’s done 12 opens and mentions crossfit when ever he can and I might be wrong but think he owns/runs an affiliate too
I agree, this is a good way to give CrossFit exposure in different demographics. Sean Woodland had an interview with Rollins yesterday. He’s quite a CrossFit ambassador in the “Pro Wrestling “ world, apparently! It’s on Talking Elite Fitness.
In my 20's I was playing team sports because I had been brought up with them from school. If CF had been around then I am not sure I could have afforded a gym that is three times more expensive than a suitable alternative. I think CF is the fitness modality you take up when your too old for your conventional sport and then find out about the competitive side of it.
I feel like the younger ages lacking in participation is because of a few things like price and immature minds. When I was younger I hated on and talked so much crap about CF until I matured and actually gave it a shot and realized how good it really is.
The affiliated model is dying, look at all the big names they build their own gyms and have other people come to them. I sold my affiliate this year and couldn't be happier. I can CrossFit with my mates in my garage gym and still have a community.
I think while not having any follow up on Seth Rollins announcing possibly based on lack of knowledge on who he is, you could have mentioned how he has been into CrossFit for a decade and has been very vocal about it. He is 7,456 for his age group of 35-39.
crossfit monthly fees are just a little too high for most 18-21 years old. Also they want to lift weights as a first start into fitness, CrossFit I think its more progression as you get bored of GymBro splits etc..
I think Crossfit is an expensive sports and for some people especially here in Australia we are in a cost of living crisis and this is just something that people just can't afford to participate in CrossFit through a box
having younger ages but having the insane amount of weight that you have to lift may not be helping. That older age group (28+) have built up the capacity and maybe more suited to lift the prescribed weights. Also Covid did a number on the youth and their sport participation.
atleast on the news part of the vlog.. put a lav mic on :) the sound is pretty terrible and clipping most of the time if u use it like that :) Before it was okay when u didn't have those.. RODE ones i guess :) otherwise.. keep doing the work! you are a legend! :)
Crossfit needs to do better storytelling. Like drive to survive for Crossfit. Nobody knows the backgrounds of the athletes. More eyes on the games should mean more people getting involved
The gym pricing is an absolute joke. Enjoy checking in on your channel but when Froning and Fraser stopped as well as all the ownership drama's I just stopped watching it, was laughable..When the sport went to Mountain biking and other weird shit I really thought it lost it's identity. I competed in 3 Opens and loved it but my body has paid for it at 46, wouldn't touch it again
Yah, I personally didn’t understand swimming mixed into the sport. It’s a box gym sport, nobody has the time or money to train every type of sport and movement. If you can’t put it or train it in a box gym, leave it out, but I think they got greedy with sponsor money to promote equipment.
Anything endurance-oriented with fitness doesn't become a lifestyle choice until at least age 30. Those age numbers are the same with local open 5K's or marathons too.
This is off-topic. But I noticed when you said that Jazz is 33. I was surprised. Just in case I watched then one of your recent video. And I realised why I was surprised. Jazz doesn’t look like an 33 year old. Don’t get me wrong, 33 is still young. But Jazz looks even younger, much younger.
Crossfit is an expensive sport, not a chance that young people can afford it.... that is the main reason why people in open are dominat 25 years old or older
Came here to say exactly that! Young people simply cannot afford it 💸
120 the box 20 open 10 judge ….sure i can pay that while i am 19 and in school 😂😂😂😂😂
It's one of the cheaper sports, what do you mean?
Exactly
@glennchamberlain1737 In what world is it cheaper? As in for a young adult. I can buy a new racquet, shoes, and yearly membership to a tennis club for less than $500 right now. 100%, crazy how expensive it is while having less equipment than the cheapest gyms
You’re paying for the coaching though, which is worth every penny if they’re good coaches.

10:55 - Same 😂 I'm not signed up for the Open this year but really enjoying spectating/watching the news
The best news updates going around! Love your work🤘🏼

The problem for 18-21 Yr olds is the cost of CrossFit. Most are in college or uni or just starting work so probably can't afford to join a box? 🤷♂️
I always love these and all the jokes and clips you slide in there 🤣🤣. I'm usually dying lol.

Superforce Crossfit is a franchise in Brazil, so likely to be a number of locations under one affiliation - clever ££££
locally definitely don't notice many younger athletes (late teens early 20s) in the gym, it's 30s & 40's primarily
the ads were as painful as the workout
Love these! TY legend.

When are the WDQ whoop bands going to be available?
Great content and vlog but man, why did you put no disclaimer for that bloody pictures and cracking sounds 🤢
Great news segment as always! Getting extra cardio in laughing at the extra clips while getting my cycling done today! Cardio ✔️
Yep, I just think the younger peeps are paying for college and other stuff and don’t have the cash to sign up for the open, that’s my guess. Great vids as always guys!:)
The issue is my box in North West UK doesn't put on kids classes, my 11yo would love to do it!
I didn't start crossfit until I was 40. I think there are lots of people who finally have the money and time to start crossfit later in life. Crossfit affiliates should target them!
I almost threw my phone when those ads started

We felt exactly the same about Seth 😂
Good video! Style points from an American watching you rock a Chiefs Champions hat! Legend!
Kristen holte posted an amazing time. She should come back and compete again.
Love the KC hat!! Chiefs Kingdom!!
It’s a short persons workout……it just is.

24.1 in the snow did me in 😂😂
Snow burpees - That is dedication to a bit.
I had de quairvains when I had my kid, it was the *worst* and no amount of PT/rest did ANYTHING for it. One day it just randomly went away. 🤷♀
The Castro hint is “piece of cake”.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you spamming the ads is absolutely jokes!
Bro, I’ve got the same thing right now as Tia. It SUCKS! Just a brace, ice. Heat and time…
I think Crossfit is an expensive sports and for some people especially here in Australia we are in a cost of living crisis and this is just something that people just can't afford to participate in CrossFit through a box
I think it's a mix between Olympic Chess, Shuffleboard and Açai eating contest.
Young and also those that come from economically deprived regions of the world/ country.
Cleans?
Cost of living crisis, I love CrossFit, do the workouts, don’t need to pay to be on the board.
I've had that...

Growth of hyrox means people would rather do that instead
Why not have foundations, scaled, RX then RX + division for all the Elite pro's that the average joes are out of their league
Loved this video had a good laugh…but Craig I hope you don’t dance like that in real life lol
When you getting married brother? You guys make an awesome couple!
Emotional dah mage lol lol
The problem is that 20 year olds can’t afford a crossfit membership

$175 dollars in michigan i quit built a gym at home

Wth
The fittest woman in the world gets taken out by a baby...
