- For Vogue’s September 2021 issue, designers John Galliano and Tomo Koizumi were tasked with reworking a piece by the other-starting by unraveling nearly every stitch. John and his team redesign a wedding dress created by Tomo, and Tomo takes a look at Rihanna's 2018 Met Gala Pope-inspired Maison Margiela look. Watch as John Galliano and Tomo Koizumi rip apart-then cleverly upcycle-each other’s signature pieces.

Okay, but this is ACTUALLY interesting, to see the difference artistic view point of different artists and their creative style and process. THANK YOU Vogue for doing this instead of putting those tiktokers on here again
this!! I will never complain about getting to see Galliano's design process but I hope Vogue does this with some smaller/newer designers, I think it would be good for both!

Am I the only person that noticed that Tomo's dress was delivered to John is an Elie Saabs garment bag. And John was like "what is that?, Oh he's got a sense of humor" epic statement

@@mooster742 just odd that a one designer Tomo would send his own garment in another designers (Elie Saab) garment bag. That would be like buying an iPad but it came in Samsung packaging ! Haha
The reuse of the garment bag is also part of the concept of reusing, recycling and upcycling.
John Galliano is such a genius! And the way he came in with his HUGE Hermès bag and babushka wrapped around his face ugh I C O N
just fyi, the scarf around his face is not a "babushka" (literally "grandma" in russian). "Platok" is the right word :)

tomo did most of the deconstruction and was super hands-on in remodeling the clothes, while galliano had a whole crew of people and still, both teams did amazing !!!
Yeah, French houses are old fashioned in that regard (that the creative director doesn’t participate in the making). That’s why when Alber Elbaz’ (RIP) took over Lanvin, his process was received with awe and utter shock, because it goes against French tradition for these established houses. There’s a video somewhere showing all of this, I recommend it. Very interesting to see the operations and what happens behind the scenes :)

Tomo Koizumi’s thoughtful references to both the house and the designer while not losing his own clear voice in the outfit are so impressive. This is a great example of genuine respect for your craft and fashion history. This type of collaboration between such top tier designers is super valuable and I love seeing their processes

Genius!!! Galiano transformed that glorious gown into a knitted sweater that really goes well with the recycling and up-cycling theme.
That reimagined gown by Tomo is so well done too, the detail and the color.. this is content I can get behind
I thought it’s interesting that Galliano actually did a couple of huge ruffled gowns for his first Dior Couture collection and now they chose to pair him with Tomo Koizumi who’s known for his extravagant ruffle creations!
love the way john turned it into a ready to wear piece, he really did upcycle it but i also loveeee how tomo made the dress so voluminous. the colors that he used are so pretty and soft. more of these contents please! this is so interesting to watch

John is a freaking GOD! And Tomo understood Galliano’s sense of fashion without losing himself (also, he’s gorgeous)! What a combo and iconic pairing!

This is so beautiful in every way I'm going to cry!!! Watched it for Galliano at first but was surprisingly impressed by Koizumi design. The process is so inspiring and the though behind the designs is pure genius, was such a pleasure to watch!

Actually the media and the fashion industry in the past made the matter much more controversial than it should have been. It's not difficult to understand that people speak crappy things when they're drunk. Of course, John was in a position that could not tolerate the incident so he had to pay a high price for it.

How he's not trying to showing how different he actually can recreate, but how a galliano would be in Tomo's shoe.. 😍 i felt like he is as galliano, presenting a design and maintaining the tomo's spirit in this recreate.

I loved it, but I felt that Galliano didn’t honour the original dress at all and completely took it apart. Koizumi kept the essence of the outfit and made it messy ethereal, which I enjoyed a lot more. Great series!
The idea was to transform the item, so Galliano made something completely different.

This is my first time hearing Galliano's thought process and it is interesting to listen to. I really wasn't a fan of Dior under his direction, but that Egyptian collection was spectacular and really helped me appreciate his creativity in some other collections a bit more.

Galliano is such a maestro, but the level of appreciation and excitement that he shows for the younger designer is amazing. It’s very refreshing to an artist at such a high level being respectful without all the ego and diva attitude when dealing with younger artist. Bravo!

This is such an amazing video! As an avid sewer, I love taking pieces to transform them but this is at an entirely different level! The way they talk about their process and thinking is so fascinating. I do hope Vogue is able to do more of these types of videos. This was extremely inspiring and makes me want to push the boundaries of my creations of upcycled and recycled garments.

The creative transformation process the two creators went through was very intriguing! I gasped at the thought of recycling either dress as they are so beautiful. I literally cringed when watching them actually cutting the fabric.
What came out at the end was even more beautiful. I did not think it possible; using the memory of the day you wore that dress to reuse it on any day was brilliant. I ADORED THIS ENTIRE PROCESS! Thank you for sharing this experience 🙏
