    Thanks for the video. I have the same TV. You have a nice setup. The AV receiver that I have is the Marantz SR5008. It is an older unit and does not have hdmi 2.1 nor Earc, just Arc. Denon and Marantz are from the same company. I will check my settings to see if I need to adjust the hdmi options. Thanks for the info.

    Thanks for the video. As a matter of fact, I had been doing the same for the pasted 3 months. I have Shield connected to a Denon receiver via HDMI, then Denon to TV via HDMI. This set up has not changed for over 3 years. Initially, I don't have any sound problem. Slowly, I noticed the sound level is getting lower and lower. 3 months ago, I changed the "Input Source" level on the Denon exactly like you suggested in the video. This is a good work around since I could not solve the root problem which should be with the Shield, not the receiver. In the last few days, I started Googling again for this same problem because
    the sound level got lower again. Your solution does not help any more because there is no further work around with the Denon.

    I have just purchased a Yamaha RX A4A, as soon as I connected everything up and turned it on the volume was set to -40, when I put a movie in and played it I had to have the volume at -20, doing what you did I end up with the volume being set to -30. It's appalling if I set the volume to -50 which is halfway I can't hear much at all. Why is the volume so rubbish

    • @T_B_C_L
      @T_B_C_L  10 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately it's just the way the manufacturers set the gain levels with Hdmi inputs for these receivers. I bet if you used the toslink optical cable your results would be the opposite. I wish there were a way to gain match the I/O similar to how car audio is done. For now this is the only way I have found to help this issue 🤷

  • @ABG2412
    @ABG2412 Год назад

    You mentioned in one of the posts that if you turned the source input up above a certain point (10 was it?) you got distortion...
    1) Why does this happen?
    2) Is there *any* reason that one would not want to turn the source input up (for example does it place a higher demand on the Denon? If yes, which part of the Denon? etc. etc.)?

    • @T_B_C_L
      @T_B_C_L  Год назад

      This mainly happens because I have an amplifier. In my case the gains should be level matched with an oscilloscope. Unfortunately I do not have one so I'm forced try to do it by ear. In my case everything sounded good below +10db if I remember right. Hope this helps 🍻

    • @ABG2412
      @ABG2412 Год назад

      @@T_B_C_LThank you! I have an amp hooked up to my Denon to run three fronts (the rest are run off the Denon). I've found that a number of apps on an Apple TV 4K (Disney + in particular) seem to have very low volume levels and I have to turn the Denon up to 0 (reference) and it is still not *that* loud. I used the method in your video, but only went up to about +4 as I still am not totally clear on the answer to question 2 above ;-). I'm just glad you posted this. And would love any extra information you can give about question 2.

      @@ABG2412 as far as question 2, many users mistake volume or output for gain or source level. Lots of equipment will clip (have distortion or square sign wave) at a certain level usual above 75% volume. Most higher end equipment does not have this issue. This level of clipping can be amplified by an amplifier. In my case I'm running hdmi from my nvidia sheild to my TV back to my Denon to my amplifier and finally out the speaker wires to the speakers. Hdmi cables are used for every connection except from denon to amplifier. The source signal starts at the nvidia sheild and may have a lower initial gain via hdmi then something like an optical cable. This will make the user feel like the volume needs to be up much higher than it really needs to be. This is exactly the reason for this video. I basically increased the gain on the denon to compensate for a lower signal level. This gives the user the ability to increase volume or output quicker in the same volume range. Some of this is science and some of it is good Ole placebo. In the end I feel much better at the output I'm getting with a lower volume settings. I hope this helps.

    • @ABG2412
      @ABG2412 Год назад

      @@T_B_C_L Appreciate it. Thank you! I have been trying to understand how the signal level "boosts" the output and the implications of raising it through this form of "gain" vs. turning the volume up. Yes on clipping concern. I actually lock my volume on the Denon to not go above "0"...

Have to crank up the tv volume in the 55-65 range to barely hear. For reference with my Onkyo the TV was in the 20s for good listening. Any other tips before I return this receiver? @@LitoSRT8 hmmm that's doesn't sound right. So do you have all your inputs (Xbox, bluray player, sat/cable, ect) going to your TV and then Earc back to the receiver via hdmi cable? This is the way I have mine. You need to make sure you are changing the digital option to optical on the TV source of the denon so that it increases the earc input source.

      Yea that sucks man. Honestly I don't understand why this is even an issue. If I hook up via optical, the gain is so much higher. I did test mine with music up pretty loud and mine is good up to I believe 9db, if I go 12db I can hear some distortion. I've been on this setting for the better part of 3 years without issue. The lower signal level is frustrating so I hope you get it figured out.

      I don't think it is the TV. It has low volume even if I go straight to the receiver. I think the voltage output on the hdmi is just very low but I'm no expert. This is just my thoughts after dealing with high and low level outputs in the car audio for such a long time. All I know is, for me, adjusting that setting helped alot. 🍻
