    The trend of American players spending their formative years in Germany goes back decades, to the likes of Eric Wynalda, Claudio Reyna and Landon Donovan, just to name a few. The German path is now more common, but why are there so many young Americans in the Bundesliga?

    The red bull clubs are a good example of how to develop a talent. They’ve so many clubs playing at different levels that you can go from college in America to pro and then make your way to champions league all within the same system.
    The Man City group have tried to replicate it but seemingly don’t have a club that can bridge the gap for someone that’s too good for MLS but not good enough for city yet, once they work it out I think they’ll probably be the leaders for development in England.

      That's actually against the, how to put it, "spirit of the law" in European football. You can't allow 1st division teams to be academies for others, since that compromises the team competitiveness and to a certain extent it's future, not to mention it's unfair for other teams who can't do the same thing. But well, they are not the first to do it, so whatever.

    Great video, keep an eye on Kobe Hernandez-Foster who just signed for Wolfsburg (previously was at the LA Galaxy academy). Terrific left back- great going forward, technically very strong and also good defending 1v1. If he can breakthrough the US will be looking great with him and Dest at outside back.
    Also important for fans to remember the advantages players that have EU passports (Pulisic, Reyna) have going to Germany at 16 compared to those like Kobe and Kayo who had to wait until 18 to go when judging future potential.

      Need a manager focused on developing young talent from European leagues instead of starting MLS veterans that lose to Trinidad & Tobago. After the failure in 2018, the USMNT should have directly invested into this (as seen with our lineup against France before the 2018 WC that ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Green & Mbappe. USMNT fielded 7 players from Europe & Steffen + Adams who would later make moves to Europe) to allow 2 full 4-year WC cycles culminating in a strong, experienced side to play in the 2026 WC on home ground. Each year that we wait to implement this will result in a weaker side for 2026.

    • @robert2690
      @robert2690 3 года назад +2

      Can you stop copying and paste?
      Let me tell you something:
      That club will run into financial problem PRETTY SOON.
      Columbus does NOT have a good market unlike Austin, Texas however has a better market that small clubs wish they have that money to IMPROVE THEIR CLUB.
      The biggest example is Seattle SuperSonics. The NBA team was into financial problem. The only way to save a club is to sell it and it became the Oklahoma City thunder.
      Guess what? The OKC are currently rebuilding as their roster is very young and have plenty of draft picks. They will be a contenting team in a few years. What were you saying about “Passion and Football win against greed”?
      You just can’t accept the fact that greed is what’s SAVING the club from financial problem and you know I’m 100% right.
      And sooner or later, that club will be folded. Say goodbye to that club. It goes to show that “Passion” isn’t gonna last.
      No one is going to fund that club.
      They made a big mistake. Austin’s MARKET is LARGER than staying at Columbus and you will see soon.
      Just watch the “passion” will go away.

    • @3dsaulgoodman43
      @3dsaulgoodman43 3 года назад +18

      @@sahiltheroyale5693 It's not just the MLS, the other American/Canadian leagues kinda run in a way in which clubs are businesses. Clubs can move at any time, and sadly there's nothing anyone can do about it. However, when compared to MLB, NFL, NBA AND NHL, the MLS don't nearly as often relocate. Only once has a relocation happened in the MLS, which was when the San Jose Earthquakes moved to Houston, but two years later, San Jose managed to get their club back through an expansion. The SaveTheCrew movement kinda reflects on how football fans aren't pushovers when it comes to their club. The club is a part of their life, which is one thing Eurosnobs like to overlook when criticising the MLS. So, the MLS is nowhere near perfect, but it's trying to improve year after year, with a lot of success.

    RE tactics, a SUNY coach welcomed my input (as an exiled Brit) the player roster loved it. I worked on individual performances , and linked that to the deference, midfield, and attack transitions;. Made past game finals for time in decades. This aspect really needs working at in US game.

    The USMNT needs more Pulisic's, McKennie's, Reyna's, and Sargent's (Tim Howard's and Clint Dempsey's, too) rather than Landon Donovan's, Jordan Morris's, and a bunch of others who would rather stay in comfort in the MLS...

    • @de132
      @de132 3 года назад +5

      I don't think Landon Donovan wanted to stay in comfort in the MLS, I think it just ended up being that way under circumstance. His career start with Leverkusen and subsequent loan spells for Bayern Munich and Everton should be considered somewhat indicative for that, even though he didn't have that many appearances. He secured his finances with the Galaxy while having occasional opportunities to play abroad.
      I think the point is that Landon Donovan just wasn't very good compared to other players playing in Europe. Young Americans today are just better than their counterparts 10, 20 and 30 years ago. As an American, I'm certainly appreciative of Landon Donovan's contributions but he just wasn't a good enough and consistent enough player to be meaningful for a club abroad for a long time. If he was better, he would've played abroad more.

    It also helps that a lot of former and current US internationals are children of military service personnel based there. Fabian Johnson for example, represented Germany at u21 level and won the Euros with them in 2009. Basically a proportion of the US team have been developed by Germany and features dual nationals. Probably makes it easier for those young players coming in to settle there.

      Unfortunately American progress is being stunted by the "pay-to-play" system, and its the biggest reason why we have such a robust German cohort in the national setup. I think that the best way to invest in our youth going forward is to get rid of those initial barriers that screen out so much potential talent

    I feel the physical aspect is something Americans might have an advantage in even. As from a young age athletes in the US go through strength and conditioning on the regular even working with strength coaches at a young age and There’s a big emphasis on it I believe due to the other popular American sports requiring lots more strength and speed in order to be successful which makes it a more emphasized part of the game where tactics isn’t really as Important to the player, like in American football players can not dramatically change the tactics on there own it’s go’s off essentially a bunch of set plays where coaches choose the tactics and style to attack and defend each play .This mentality that players primary worry is fitness has translated over to other US sports and is why fitness not tactics is so emphasized is America

    To be quite frank, German girls love American boys and vice versa, a tale that goes back at least a century. The taboo love affair has deep roots, in many different manifestations socially, culturally and persoanlly. It's not surprise such could lead to just a general acceptance of their value at higher levels than in the rest of Europe, which leads to more interest in their youth prospects.

    IMO a huge part of this is also that the only German club who really can afford to regularly buy well known top level players with the current transfer fees is Bayern Munich. Some otherTeams like Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig can afford to pay muc h for a player at times, but not too often. Because of that the teams need to be creative with their transfers and getting a young prospect player from the US with the chance to have him play for your team for 2 - 3 years and then selling him making good money on the transfer market is just one of their ways of being creative.

    a few more factors: German Bundesliga Clubs likes to sign young Players, train them and sell them later. its benificiary for all Parties involved and with the Fair Play Financial Rules for Football Clubs in Germany its the best Way to earn Money even if you dont win anything.
    so, its not only young American Players that get signed by big German Clubs, its talented Youth from around the World and with the Rules in Place: its impossible to sign a Ronaldo or Messi because if you loose the league 1 Time your Club is done for Financial Reasons.

      Hell fox sports covers the bu league closely and it gets good viewship. NBC does premier league but I think they want to switch it to their stream service peacock. Both prem and bundesliga get way more coverage than even the champions league. I have to basically illegally stream ucl cuz its not on a main channel. Hell they get more coverage then our domestic leagues. And you are our women's team, basically equivalent to Brazil or Germany men's team in terms of historic success and recent greatness. So obviously we have the talent to play sports ( name another country with more huge leagues). Alot of people here only have one way to success and that is through sports. I wouldn't be surprised if done right we see a us that produces talent like any large nation with how many people we have that dedicate their lives to sports to escape poverty

    I would have thought the reason would have been that American soldiers stationed after WWII and into the 80's would have settled in Germany and have later generations who could claim dual citizenship and thus could compete for America. But this has opened my eyes hugely. I always loved the American Team. They are a 'true' team. I don't think there is a single 'world' class player in the squad, but they can hang in with the best National teams. I thought it was down to the American 'Spirit' but now I see there is immense talent there. If you can make it in the German League, you can make it 'anywhere!' Fair play lads!
