Tod and I made that run when I picked up #149. The river bed next to the active mine is always a good test. My xx soaked it up on 32’s but the Speed drove thru it like butter!
For the price of a speed, you should not have to fix the power steering or cooling fans. Glad I canceled my Speed. Happy with my new Mav R after shock Therapy fix.
Thanks for putting this out for us to see.....your video, combined with the Chupacabra video on the excessive required maintenance....it really makes me feel really good about my Turbo R purchase! What I can't seem to get over is the "years and years and years" of RG putting out his "R&D" videos but yet the production car having belt temp and power steering issues? Yes, all mfg's will have issues, but when a guy (RG) puts out countless videos on how good this car is but once in the hands of the public, you're left with this?
It's a very well thought out machine. The other Manufactures do have a leg up on the manufacturing process, and problem solving before the machines get into consumers hands. Turbo R is a legit machine, they are a blast!
Would you buy the speed el jefe again? Going to be talking with Ned from MTS Off-Road at UTV Takover. Thinking about canceling my order. I have been waiting 3.5 years now. Nice information. Can we see a detailed look at the clutch casing. Is there a rear exit for air?
Kevin, take a look at one of my previous videos that shows the clutch fan in detail. I feel for you man! If I were to go out and purchase one car today and I had to choose between Speed UTV, Pro R 4, and Maverick R. I’d probably go with a Pro R 4 Ultimate, since I know what it cost to build a Pro R with all the goodies, I’d get an UPFIT Baja 4 seater. If you added up the buildout, you would end up about $5k less with an UPFIT Pro R. I feel bad for Speed UTV, their cars are tied up in customs from my understanding. I personally would be able to wait unfortunately. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love my El Jefe. Just about got it all dialed in!
@@UTV-A I understand. I'm not talking about the fan set up. On my X3 there is a large exit at the back of the transmition. I haven't seen one up close yet and was wondering if there is an exit like my can am. Hope to see one at UTV Takeover and I will go from there. I will take Ned's and Jeep's info as well.
@@kevingoodrich3050there are three ports in the Speed UTV clutch case. Two in the front that attach to vents on the back side of the number plates, and one that is open to the motor. The idea is multiple air ports that transfer cool air. I think factory clutch alignment is an issue, and the intercooler, turbo, and exhaust all sit close to the secondary clutch, and the housing is cast aluminum making it an oven essentially. I’ve run with cars that run way cooler then mine which leads me to believe that mine is an alignment issue.
@utv-a what do you mean when you said the steering faded later in the day? Was it the hydraulic or electric motor that was fading? Why would the electric not support any fade? Isn’t that the point of the electric to fix the issues Speed has with the hydraulic steering? Would this car be better to just be full electric and ditch the hydraulic all together? Have you spoke to Speed about the clutch alignment that you mentioned? If it’s a alignment issue then they need to figure that out vs selling $600 clutch covers with a fan, because your still going to have belt life & clutch issues if there not aligned.
I am not hearing reports of newer cars having the same clutch issues I am experiencing. SPEED has tried to tackle it in multiple ways even to the point of replacing my transmission. We will keep at it until we figure it out, but I’m happy to report that the clutch fan helped! The Electric upgrade is awesome without a doubt, and I like the option to select full hydraulic or electric power assist.
From the camera, it may have looked rough, but the ride was extremely smooth! The tires are 35” Journeys, which is exactly the same as the Obor tires. They are both made by Vision
Thanks 🙏 Brother for update appreciate
Thanks. Yes, the ride looked pretty smooth. The trail has A LOT more rocks exposed than many years ago. Good tire test road. 👍
Spring time is the best time for that trail

The whole drive was so smooth. The Speed made the drive very enjoyable and fun. The new upgrades were a good move for my car

Will the eps limp the car home if there is a hydraulic failure?
That’s a great question, I think the eps takes a lot of the load off of the Hydraulic system
