    Hi there to all of you people!
    This time was a smelly experiment. My lab coat has the smell of vomit after this one, so please give a huge like!!!
    Jokes aside, was a tedious experiment as this is not the ideal procedure for the synthesis of this compound. Ideally another solvent should be used instead of ethyl acetate as it likes water more than DCM for example. Also my butanol was not in the best conditions so adding all of that took a total of eight days to film, only to film!
    I will be converting this compound in a second video so stay tuned!
    All the labware was provided by Dixon Science www.dixonscience.com

    When I was a kid I used to make butyric acid by fermenting potato peels in jars. A friend was going to do something with it at school but chickened out. He poured it down the drain, but that drain was never really used, so the corridor where that drain was located stank for half a year!

      Hahahaha fun story! When I first synthesize a small amount years before, I had the vial kept in consecutive ziplock plastic bags, and wasnt enough.
      Also your drained solution contained mostly water and many other rotten/fermented organics from the potato... imagine having the butyric acid isolated like mine!!
      Thanks for the comment

    Im getting into making essential oils but curious about cannabis extracts also one day. I see steel copper and glass for making oils but was curious to see what an expert thinks is best to invest in before i buy a heating mantle. Thank you for sharing

      Hello! Yes I can: Reagent is 1-Butanol. The desired product is Butanoic acid and the side product is Butylbutanoate

    How do you wash your glassware? I'm sorry

    • @Glattuh
      @Glattuh  Год назад

      Hii! I aleays use common dishwash soap and let it soak on it before washing it with sponge. If something is sticky I use either solvents or solutions,like ammonia, HCl or bleach. The key is to let it rest and let the reagents do their job over time ;)
      Also, after that, I always rinse the glassware with distilled water
