Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)

Omg that’s the funniest ending 😂
That's great to hear that you enjoyed it, I was trying to think of a good way to do it and I figured what the heck. Thanks for watching!
Yesterday's video gave it away when you said you had to put the oracle x on a different bow
@@denissmith7434 😉
@Deathbybungie I want to ask, did you name your weapon when you got it? Or after your first kill? I'm new to my crossbow journey and I'm naming mine and am waiting for the name to come to me...but I wanted to go by the rules I guess you could say.. and am I supposed to wait untill my first kill? Or name it whenever? 😮😂? Very serious... thanks. I'm a big fan btw. Keep the content coming and God bless you, bunkjie and the Family
Congratulations on the new crossbow Rich! Can’t wait to see you put it to use this year! Good luck can’t wait!
Another interesting video Rich . It's been a great appreciation series .
I knew it! I knew it! You had that look. Can't wait for the next video on the new addition.
Yes I been waiting passionately! ❤ keep up the good videos!
Congrats on the purchase. That was a great ending! And that ending may have started a new beginning. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for this, glad you enjoyed it
Got my diesal x last week and got a buck at 60 yards Saturday, blew right threw the shoulder plate and lung.... Awesome crossbows! Can't say enough!
Great Rich, I can't wait for the next episode! I think the best thing about these KI Swat's is that the arrow (bolt if you prefer) cannot fall out or move away from the string! It's tightly held in place and you can point the bow down and the arrow will not budge!
Congrats on the new Bunjie ❤👍🇺🇸
EXCELLENT!!! Oh I can't wait to see Bunjie 4.0 in action.
I liked the ending of your video, thank you for sharing.
The end. That was great.
Congratulations Rich.

Great ending of the video!
Great video…
That was absolutely brilliant. 😂 cant wait to see its first outing video 😊

Welcome to the KI family Rich.

Awesome purchase. I just got one myself. Got the KI Hyper KE bolts with 150 grain broad Head. Really enjoy your videos. Congratulations on the new job
Same set up but the 125 grains..
Love these bolts with the lighted nocks.
Nice. It's a cool little bow. 👍
Congratulations on the new bow !!! I own three crossbows and looking at getting a fourth.I finally accepted that I have a problem 😂😂😂
LOL I have been trying to avoid it, but when you like something you like something. Lol.
You bought an X1?! What a surprise! 😂 Love it!
🤣
Before this even started, I figured the reason you are reviewing this one now is because you bought one. I'm into it! I had the original Swat when they first came out. Shot my first archery buck with it many years ago. Scored it for around $700 back then. There were some fit and finish issues and I learned I did not like the ergonomics of it for carrying and hunting use. So I did sell it. I was very interested in the new Swats ever since the XP was announced. Can't come to terms with the price tag though. Well, until seeing your video. Thanks for tempting me into it!
1000 is probably the same as 700 back then, and you can get pretty good deals on them. Really, when you look at modern crossbows, and this being their Flagship crossbow, it's a pretty reasonable price compared to other manufacturers! Pretty cool, glad you're into it!
Yours, nine or ours really love the content , ķeep it comming thanks again
Can’t wait to see you shoot this new crossbow
Well I got to get that scope sighted in LOL
Congratulations, I hope you great success.
Congratulations!!!!!🥳🥳🥳 You will love it. I can't put my down, and my two Scorpyds are collecting a dust now 😜. Btw. I love your grip you got on it. 🥰

You sneaky devil Rich! This will be my 4th season with KI Bone Collector 370, and while its still the wider design compound, it is an absolute tack driver. Killer Instinct makes a good product and they have an excellent warranty. You made a soldid choice my friend.

Boy, your Maths and Sciences are working overtime! I love your detail in how you figure things out.. but i also think you might be talking yourself into a new crossbow… NOTHING wrong with that!!!
It’s interesting the expended energy that goes into lobbing the arrow vs. what is retained in the bow. This makes sense to me. But there is also the “simplicity” calculation… which I can’t math. But i know I’ve also dry-fired my GRZ2 (pretty much the OB) more than I’d like to admit- but in that case, simplicity does sometimes win the day. I KNOW that no matter what, you’re older, slower crossbow will always be there for you.
Keep it up buddy! Loving your content and your dedication to our sport- especially considering how busy you are with other things. Plus good “maths”
Watch the end of the video lol
@@Deathbybunjie I literally stopped to comment about 5 seconds before you said “Oh yeah, I bought one”! Nice going man!! I could tell you were falling in love. @@benjaminsims9046 LOL that's great, thanks, I'm glad you caught that at the end!
This wasn't a total shock. I sort of sensed this one coming, & I don't blame you! One of the things I noticed (& you did, too) is how the scopes move on a more traditional crossbow set up. Most crossbow latches are located under the scope area. The latches for the X1 are in the rear of the stock (way behind the mounted scope). I have to believe the barrel adds extra strength to the scope mounting area, too. The Swat X1 has some really nice, unique features, but what the heck are you going to call it???? All hail "Death by Swatty!" Just not the same! 😃
LOL I agree on the barrel and the extra durability, we shall see how it goes with the oracle x, and as for names, that was the to be continued part hahaha
Bunjie Junior The 2nd.? 😜@@Deathbybunjie
Great ending! I just got a new crossbow delivered from Wyvern myself. I needed a crank cocking and decocking one because of having biceps repair surgery this morning. I was thinking of one of the assassins from Excalibur. Just didn't feel right. Plus I've heard that you have to send them in to be serviced from one of the techs i talked to. Next, I held the Suppressor 400TD that came with the charger crank. Looked like a sweet crossbow and I love simplicity but I just don't know if I care for the Takedown feature. That really doesn't offer anything to me that a Minute or two with an Allen key doesn't already offer.
I was on the fence with buying a compound crossbow that was in the price range I wanted to spend. But, after a lot of looking around and reading I settled on the Tenpoint Turbo S1. They've gotten awesome reviews. Seems almost everyone gives them at least 4 stars. Yes, they "only" are rated for 390fps, but, that is plenty enough speed and energy in a 400 grain arrow to do the job on a whitetail deer out to 40 which is all the distance I will shoot. If 330 was fast enough last year from the old Excalibur to get it done, 390 should be plenty enough this year by my simple calculations. And getting 390 from a compact model is going to stress the rig much less than 450, 470, or 500 fps. In my eye it gets plenty enough speed without as much cause for concern.
It checked all of my boxes but one. It was a crank cock and decock, it was plenty fast enough, it's been out a couple seasons to get a good feel for it, it didn't break the bank, and it wasn't the latest and greatest or fastest. I think that middle of the road speed is ideal. Again, 390 is plenty enough for whitetail. The only box it did not Check was simplicity. But, neither does much else today. It seems like the right crossbow for me considering everything. I have to say that if the Excalibur suppressor 400 was not a takedown model, that would have been my choice. Thanks for another great video! Hope you enjoy your new crossbow!
You really thought this through! And you are right about the simplicity, I don't think that's available in this day and age. Or at least if it is, it has a modern definition which is not the same as it was 14 years ago when I bought my Axiom haha. The world sure has changed! I think you made a good choice, and I really wish you the best of luck this coming season!
@@Deathbybunjie Good luck to you as well. 👍👍
Thank you
Congrats on the new Xbow. Maybe you can revisit your saddle hunting with this new Xbow.
I just finished building a new set of string/cables for a Ravin R26. The guy bought it over and all four cables were toasted. I built four new 5.75" cables and a new string. The cables are completely served except for one end loop so getting the lengths identical on all four cables is important. It was like stringing a stick of dynamite. These little Xbows are loaded. Uncocked is 12" from cam to cam.
I think a press is in my future. Kind of interested in that as a "next step." This crossbow is 13.5" to outside of cams though...OVERALL width is all that matters to me LOL thats still really really small!
@@Deathbybunjie The Ravin R26 I rebuilt is 12" from outside of cam to outside of cam. It has a very small footprint.
That green tie in the old clip? Chef's kiss.

Congrats Rich, Welcome to the KI realm!!! What are yoour plans with 3 crossbows???
My plans are to hunt a lot more LOL
I just got mine a couple of days ago. It seems pretty smooth and the trigger is second to none. I haven't shot it enough to really come to many conclusions so the jury's still out on some things. BUT, if I really like it, it's going to be goodbye to my Scorpyd.
Do you have the sub compact one? I see there are two different sizes
i’ve got a boss 405. first crossbow. it is very accurate. i’m considering buying the swat x1.
I'm very interested, of course, keep me posted! We'll see how this goes!
I zoned out in the middle, admiring the full mount black bear. Re focused, thinking Rich still has Jim's x1? Then surprise.

Yea its hard not to own one once you handled and shot them a few times. Congratulations Rich happy hunting!
I watched this the other day and I didnt catch the ending….then I saw your FB post and had to rewatch….nice purchase. Did you trade in the Scorpyd?
Lol glad you liked it, no, B3 isn't going anywhere, I love that crossbow!
Rich then the solution for this Aerovane 2 vanes from Firenock. They are fletched straight and they spin the arrow faster than any other vane outside of the AV3. It would be interesting to see how AV2 do with 60 yard shots out of the Swat's barrel.
It would be interesting to see if it spins, or if it reacts the same. I have three different arrows I am going to test for starters.
congratulations on the new xbow, is that a standard grip on yours , i see your friends bow looked like it had a Future Forged custom line of grip
They are an AR style grip and I just replaced the AR style grip that came with it with an AR to 1911 converter grip. Then I added the 1911 grips. Pretty sweet!
Killer Instinct?!?!?! Now I have to resubscribe...
Bwahahaha that's great 👍🏻
Do you have a video showing how to lube the rails on this enclosed barrel and the cables? Thanks
I don't think I've done that but it will be part of a future video
Dynamic efficiency will increase with a heavier bolt/ arrow. A heavier arrow absorbs more energy. If you pick up one of the popular bow hunting magazines li,e Petersons bow hunting when they do bow or crossbow reviews they explain and show the efficiencies of different weights. The heavier arrow also quiets the shot noise.
All good points
The plot thickens...I knew you were up to something...I believe the wrath 430 is my next budget bow.
I do like that Wrath 430 FWIW
Wow congrats… how much was that bad boy??? I like several crossbows but I’m like you with bungie as I love my crossbow so much I can’t imagine switching right now. I killed ten deer with my Norton hunter supreme crossbow. Now I use the bear x intense cd. I’m so happy with my crossbow. Super accurate. Super fast bolt speed. I’ve now killed 3 deer with this new crossbow. But with new bows coming out daily my intense cd is no longer a new bow. So maybe one day I’ll change again but I literally have extra strings and such in hopes I can keep this crossbow going for a while. I love my new set up from the new bolts and broadheads and crossbow I am super confident which is everything to me.
Got to agree, confidence goes a long way in this game that's for sure
I’ve come to realize that I have to be confident or I just don’t feel right.. don’t know how to explain.. I try to practice couple times a week. When everything is working correctly it’s super accurate which helps me decide when and where to aim before taking that shot… 😝
@@Deathbybunjie got to move with the flow or the technology… or you will be. A cave man.
Yep I knew you going to add one to your arsenal 😂
It sure would be nice if Killer Instinct would mimic their stirrup design on the X 1after the stirrup on the Centerpoint Wrath 430.
That stirrup can be locked in three different positions.🧐🧐
I do like that wrath!
I am unhappy with no decocking on my speed 425. That’s a pain when most of the time it’s dark by the time I get out of the woods. I have convinced myself not to buy another one without it. BUT, I love this crossbow.
Any suggestions
Decocking arrow or a Target at the truck, that's all I got lol
Something told me you were going to end the video with you saying you bought one...😂 😂

My worry is for the Burris scope. I am on my third scope due to dot failure. Are you experiencing this as well? My Garmin XO-1 has never failed but are twice the price. Neither one is cheap.
I've only had the original failure since then they've been working great, fingers crossed!
can you tell me about the red & black grip I need that for my X1 {link}
I'll see if I can find out
He says FUTURE FORGED GRIPS FROM MANSFIELD, hope Google gets you there 😉
Hello, nice Video. But sorry that i have to say you are wrong about the archers paradox. The real reason for this, is that an Arrow Shot from a old scool bow, needs to go arround the stock of the bow and that he is released with your fingers. The reason for the Twist is the same as for bullets shot from a rifle, the gyroscopic effect, the creats a more stable trejaktery. (P.s.: sorry for my bad english but i'am a Fan from Germany)
You are correct, and that's what I was getting at. Archer's Paradox really isn't a thing for crossbows because the arrow doesn't have to get around the riser.
Greetings from Holyoke MA I hope you are well. I ask you, have you not had a problem with your Killers instict SWAT X1? Because I bought one two years ago and after 9 months of having it without having thrown away 50 shots broke a limb in the middle of the season I was left without Crossbow to hunt. And now, three weeks into the season, he broke his limbs again and is hurt by different parts of the aluminum structure an incredible thing but true.
So far so good, and I'm sorry to hear that you had troubles. I think they had limb problems a few years back but I have largely resolved them and now there are some older models that still have older limbs or older strings and cables but are just making their way into the marketplace now and that is creating some Modern Problems too but if we stay on top of those things I think it's a pretty good crossbow, it has done everything I've asked of it so far and I really really like it fingers crossed!
@@Deathbybunjie So it is mine that has turned out bad because they have already changed the ends twice and now the aluminum center where the ends go is cracking in several places, never seen something like this in any Crossbow. I already took it to the technician and I hope that Killers instict answers quickly so I can hunt at some point this season
My arrow guy says that the reason for the arrow spin is the same as the rifling on a firearm and the reason a football is intentionally thrown with spin. He had never heard of correcting for flex.
😆😅
Cmooon!😊
What, about rail lube on a fully enclosed rail?
Ahhhhh good question! I am told an application of lubricant with a small paintbrush. Weird, it came with a stick of lube that can't be used haha.
What do you think about the barnett recruit recurve crossbow.
It can get the job done, a lot of people do use that one. But I personally would be looking for a faster more modern option.

@@JJ-mw3sx it can get the job done though and especially if you stick with the fixed blade broadheads and shorter shots
Hey what arrow quiver did you end up putting on your swat x1 im looking for a quiver that holds more arrows?
I don't have any quiver mounted on it but I carry the quiver from my deathstalker. It's the little grip quiver from scorpyd. It carries Five Arrows, three with broadheads, so I carry an extra Broadhead or two in a case in my backpack in case I need it. and it has a functional clip so you can clip it on a tree stand or a branch next to you. I really do like that quiver, and there are other ones like it but you can take a look at those.

One eye archer. I'm "I be deadeye" For the same reason? One eye won't stop an archer.
Sub-1 XR the BEST💪💪
Why am I NOT surprised? 😂😂😂
Does that make 4 Burris scopes?
I always thought that the 3 vanes is more accurate than two and having a barrel design allows vanes to go in the rail. While traditional and primitive crossbows did not have a rail but a deck and you could only use two vanes.
That is interesting, of course they weren't shooting at very high speeds so they don't need as much help maybe, that could be part of it too. Everything changes with arrows over 260,270 ft per second, at least according to every podcast with Dorge Huang that I've listened to LOL
@@Deathbybunjie oh yes that is so very true everything is a trade off in archery and this can not be stressed enough. For every benefit there is consequences.

Them crossbows are freaking awesome. The so-called cheap crossbows. If you really start looking at it. They add a boatload of bells and whistles to these crossbows, which brings a price up. Personal preference thing. But the crossbow is a flat out dead nuts shooter. Why do you mess with that. I almost got caught up in all the fastest, shinier, new stuff. Almost! Lol! Nice.
Size? It’s about perfect, I’ve crawled thru some really nasty stuff, chasing a BIG BUCK, last season,
I use heavy arrows,Broadheads, bow Jax’s on limbs, it’s very quiet
Oh yeah. Vanes do not create a significant amount of drag to make a difference. Vanes work by creating lift. Lift is a force in any direction. The lift is leverage against the broadhead and helps to keep it flying straight. Even helical doesn't offer much more drag compared to a straight fletch arrow. It about 5 FPS at 50 yards. The helical does create more spin and helps to average out any imperfections in the total runout.
Here we go...

😂oh I bought one!
Don't confuse the archer's paradox with the flexing of an arrow. Archer's paradox only really applies to traditional bows not cut-to-centre. With those bows, the line of the arrow, when drawn, does not point to where you want the arrow to hit. That applies to the horizontal plane, not the vertical. Crossbows align the same as a centre-cut bow on the vertical. Now all arrows and bolts are going to flex to some degree. That's the laws of physics and you can't escape that fact. When it comes to bows not cut-to-centre, the flexing of the arrow is the way one gets around the archer's paradox. That flex is horizontal, that is side-to-side. With centre-cut bows, the flex is vertical. The rail on a crossbow has the same alignment as a centre-cut bow so any flexing of bolt is going to be vertically. Except, from your slow motion of a bolt shot from the Killer Instinct, it appears to me that the flex is horizontal. The rail probably doesn't allow any vertical flex. It's easier for the bolt to flex, as it must, horizontally.
Bottom line is that crossbows don't have an archer's paradox. They will have their bolts flexing and that flexing has nothing to do with the paradox.
As I said in the video, crossbows don't have archers paradox, but flex is a real thing perhaps...yes, we agree on that. But I don't see much flex in any of the arrows personally.
@@Deathbybunjie Missed your mentioning in the video about no paradox with a crossbow. Sorry about that.
Given that bolts are much shorter than arrows used with bows, their diameters tend to be greater than arrows and their front-of-centre (FOC) likely is close to the midpoint of the bolts meaning they are not front heavy, their spine and flex will definitely be less pronounced than an arrow. Might be a case on my part of hoping to see flex to make the point rather than actually being able to see some.
Should say the bottom line really is, "Bungie has a new sibling."
As I believe Corey Ford or maybe Patrick McManus wrote in "Field and Stream" a lifetime ago, " You can't have enough guns!" Well, neither can you have enough crossbows so it wopuld seem.
Best.

They're talking axle to axle, I only measure from the outside of the cams, the true width LOL at least in my book
You can have to much crossbows, but never enough!
That's an interesting way to put it for sure!
