  • Rear stairs leading to the kitchen were typically used by wait staff in 1900 when our Victorian home was built. When I bought my home in 2006 it had been neglected and many rooms were in disrepair. I've renovated my home room by room on a shoe string budget. It's not 100% yet, but it's getting there. Now I've turned my attention to the rear staircase that were covered with carpet by the previous owners. When I discovered the staircase nails were iron forged square head nailsI knew my home was older than I originally thought or was documented. There's no way I would sand away history, so I decided to gently clean the stairs using Awesome Multi-Purpose Cleaner, a toothbrush and sponges instead.
In this video you'll see the results after cleaning, staining and polyurethane.

You should really use a magnetic bowl for the staples, etc.. That way they won’t accidentally spill all over the place and stick you in your bare feet.
