- If you're saddened like I am at the passing of "Laugh-In" announcer and voice extraordinaire Gary Owens, let Gary himself put a smile back on your face.
When I did the noon-3pm shift on KMPC and preceded Gary, my "specialty" was audio biographies of showbiz folks, mostly singers. Gary agreed to participate in one on his own career in the '70s. This is the very beginning of that show-Gary at his typical, zany best. What a talent! I know you'll enjoy. Rest in peace, Gary.

THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATION, GARY!💜
Thanks for such a lovely tribute to a fine talent in Gary Owens. He was the last of his kind in radio & television broadcasting. There'll never be another like him. Gary will be missed, for sure! I grew up watching Mr. Owens on "Laugh-In" & hearing his distinctive voice in numerous cartoons. He had that voice which commanded your attention!
R.I.P., Gary Bernard Altman.
ChihuahuaboyDH he was great. saw him on a tribute to Laugh-In on PBS recently.
Gary had an incredible voice!
Beautiful Downtown Burbank will never be the same! RIP Gary Owens
RIP Gary. You had one of the best voices in the whole world.
Wink, great tribute. We're losing all the great ones.
This piece just showed up in my YT "recommended". THANK YOU WINK for producing the essence of Gary. I have read one compliment for GO, someone wrote Gary Owens was the DJ's DJ. So true. Nice to hear about Blanche Gooberman (want she Gary's secretary for a while?) One of his most memorable lines, introducing Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again": Yes here she comes again, and not a brick out of place.
I listened to KMPC all day when I could, from Geoff to Gary and beyond. Thanks!
Thanks for the memories, Gary.
I just found out about his passing and I am stunned! God bless you Gary and bringing us all the laughs in "beautiful downtown Burbank.:
I used to listen to GO on KMPC in Los Angeles in the 60s.
You were on KFWB at the time. :)
A master of his craft.
Ty for your share Wink. I too posted 2 videos on Gary Owens (1 is a tribure share & 1 is a classic Laugh-In episode).
R.I.P. Blue Falcon.
Good stuff!
Thank you Wink for those memories. That KEWB aircheck is priceless. Coincidentally, my wife STILL has a 45 of "Blackland Farmer" that you autographed for her so many years ago!
Bob Sampron, that lady in the bit was the inimitable Joan Gerber (Gary mentions her getting married to the bowl of Jello) She was the voice of "The Story Lady" for many years, and innumerable cartoon and character bits over the years. It was Gary himself who introduced me to her. Sadly, she too passed, in 2011.
Rest in Peace Powdered Toast Man
Didn't know he was the commentator and announcer in the part from the Disney Movie "The Love Bug" when Jim and Herbie race in the El Dorado.
The first time I heard him, I had no idea who he was, probably because I was still a little kid at the time. I could hear some narration by him in the animated special "Garfield: His 9 Lives". He also provided narration in a number of episodes of "Garfield & Friends". I'm a Garfield fan, so there. After doing some further reading, it really is amazing how much Mr. Owens did over the course of his career. His death is a big loss to a lot of areas. RIP, Gary.
I remember him as space ghost
