- Once hounded from his castle by outraged villagers for creating a monstrous living being, Baron Frankenstein returns to Karlstaad. High in the mountains they stumble on the body of the creature, perfectly preserved in the ice. He is brought back to life with the help of the hypnotist Zoltan who now controls the creature. Can Frankenstein break Zoltan's hypnotic spell that incites the monster to commit these horrific murders or will Zoltan induce the creature to destroy its creator?
The image at 1:01 haunted me all my life. I saw this trailer when I was 3 at the drive-in with my parents. Though I remember if slightly differently, this is definitely the image that stayed with me all my life. Glad I finally found it! Now I want to see the entire movie!
It's called the "Evil" of Frankenstein, yet out of all the Cushing incarnations of the character, this one is arguably the nicest. He tells his assistant to run to safety and leave him behind when the castle is burning down, and tries to save his creation from the flames.
Yes, I think this is meant to be a stand alone movie. In this version the authorities are corrupt and villainous, so is the hypnotist. The woman in the film is a sort of outcast who bands together with him. He's not exactly a good character though, he's still a Bodysnatcher who wants vengeance. But definitely mismarketed as neither scientist or monster are evil in this.
Yet Victor Frankenstein turns up alive in the next movie.
@@Rtkat3 They arguably don't share continuity

It's also IMO the best of the Hammer Frankenstein films.
"Your work, the work of the devil." Greatest line in the Hammers....
There is a good thing that a lot of these old movies are being remastered and placed on blu ray. If it weren't for collectors and/or fans of film in general who create the demand and purchase these classics, they could possibly be lost and forgotten forever. If I'm able to, I'm definitely going to purchase Shout Factory's release of this film and see how well they did the transfer, and of course enjoy the movie.
Even the original dvd releases are good quality, and thankfully because those blue ray releases are too rich for me. Although many people are saying they're not much better than the dvd remasters.
@@MephProduction blu ray is pointless to me, I’m happy with my DVDs
I liked The Evil of Frankenstein (1964). I think it was the best Hammer Frankenstein movie since Curse of Frankenstein. And I liked the fact the monster in this film looked a little like the monster played by Boris Karloff.
One of my favourites!
I love the Squarish, flat headed makeup design for The Monster. Of all the monsters Baron Frankenstein created, this was the best one. Too bad The Monster couldn't have been a bit more intelligent instead of ultimately succumbing to the worn out cliche of becoming a big, clumsy, oaf.
Better than Christopher Lee’s creature in Curse Of Frankenstein? Nah!
I agree -- Kiwi Kingston's creature ilicits a lot more sympathy than Christopher Lee's jerky, one-note killing machine in CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. I also never cared for Lee's makeup in that one.
It was said that this Frankenstein's monster was the original creation of Victor Frankenstein before the Christopher Lee version making it a prototype. Any objections?
Dr. Frankenstein just couldn't get it right... but at least he tried.😂
Quite a good one, they had the rights to use the original monster design from the 1930s.
In this one its more society that is corrupt and bad, Victor Frankenstein sort of has a group of misfits and outcasts. Its a bit bigger budget than the first one, though some of the production design can be a bit creaky. All in all quite good.

Hammer-&-Sickle Horror
Love this Hammer Horror version and the Monsters girthy make-up. Played by Pro Wrestler Kiwi Kingston from New Zealand at 6'5" he made a great choice.
This has always been my favorite Hammer Frankenstein movie -- I enjoy it a lot more than CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
Laconic review comment: awesome!
This looks interesting
My fav.hammer Frankenstein...fits in well wif Universal movies...pity they didnt have the rights to a Pierce make up though...
David Crabbe They did have the rights. Evil of Frankenstein is the only one that Hammer used the Jack Pierce makeup in (thus the square head).
@@ontologicallysteve7765 wasnt as good though
Yeah, this one is the best of the lot -- best story, best characterizations, best monster makeup, best looking laboratory, best music score.
Came here after reading Remjemyor's thoughts on beauricracy.
"Dhe Evil of Frankenstein" (1964) scared dhe pants off me; [hellstormdocumentary]dot[com] truly horrified me.
