It may take me the next six months to nail it but I'm going to spend an hour ever day untill l get to play it through with ease, thankyou for your Amazing video it's an inspiration to get me playing again, regards Pete,
Superb explanation and resources many thanks. I have tabbed out the solo with the capo still on fret 5 which doesn't require too many alterations - all I need to do now is learn to use a looper pedal!
I've been following your videos for a while and I just bought this lesson! so excited to learn from you and looking forward to continue with other songs! thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I started practicing guitar recently and I find your videos very inspiring!
This is the best lesson version on RUclips, this is the way don felder plays it live, all other lessons on utube are album version or easy version, this AM version is the 1 I want learn.bit different for me as I've always played 80s shred style, but the guitar playing on this record is a master piece.every time somone says oh I've heard your a great guitarist can you play hotel california lol, couple more days I'll be able say yes ;-) thank you very much for the lesson, you made it easy to follow, and it's note for note perfect, well done mate loved it :-)
@Matthew Tulip thanks so much, mate! I really appreciate that. I've always kinda struggled with playing this intro the exact way I've heard it: i.e. on the album/radio. Now one reason is that I'm not playing a 12 string through a pickup and a leslie cabinet like they did, but when I saw Don Fender play this on a 6 string it sounded damn near perfect, and I had to tab it out and show it to people. And hey, being a great guitarist takes all shapes and forms: you do you, bro, and be the guitar player YOU want to be. I could never get the hang of the shred, even though I love Joe and Eddie and Steve like any mortal guitarist should. Cheers. M.
Your very welcome bud.ya might not be using a 12 string but doesn't matter your tone is close enough, and it's note for note perfect, absolute Peach of a lesson.thanks again bud :-)
Amazing video. I have never seen a video as well constructed as this. Congratulations. Not sure my playing is advanced enough to pull this off, but this video and the excellent charts certainly makes it possible to learn.
Thank you so much, P&L, I'm really glad to hear such kind words, cheers. I'm sure if you take it slow enough, you'll get onto it! That's the advantage of having the tabs with the vid, I think, is that you can take small bites as slowly as you need to. And aiming above your level will accelerate your improvement hugely. Good luck!
I am not so focused on the correct sound because i want to make it my own interpretation. But the way it is played... is awesome to learn from you. Great lesson! 👍😁🤘🤘
I might some day. But there are a LOT of tutorials for it out there already. Absolutely classic, though. Maybe I'll do a different earlier DS song - any suggestions?
You're in luck! This video shows it in Am (the original recording is in Bm), with a capo on the 5th fret and the first chord is an Em shape. So to play in the key of Em, all you have to do is take the capo off, and play everything exactly the same as in the chart. Including the solo. Tab ignores the fact there is a capo being used, and the number always represents the number of frets up from the nut (which is the capo). Good luck! Hope this helps.
No, that's true. I love their live acoustic version, with the Spanish-style intro. But this is intended as a way to play a version that's closest to the original studio recording, on acoustic, using techniques that make the solo accessible for the acoustic player. Hope it helps.
It's always like this with every song lol. I've seen different tabs for same songs, & some using capo some for without. The 1's that urk me the most are when theyre guitar isn't tuned standard or the frequently used detuned(tuned down a ½ step). Ends up being some uncommon tuning or custom tuned & they never mention it. When I was young & starting out without the luxury of Internet access, everyone played Hendrix songs differently both chord & tuning wise lol. Those were the days. Every issue of "Guitar" mag held 3 chances of tabs of songs we wanted 2 learn bt couldn't pickup by ear 🤣 Generations that only know finding tabs/tutorial whenever they want have no idea. Prob don't have as wide of versatility/catalogs tho?
@@OneChartguitarlessons hahahaha!! Really appreciate the vid, I'm 2 weeks into guitar and got the intro down pat from this lesson. Excited to attempt the solo down the road
@OneChartguitarlessons - Phew ! I am beginning to learn how to play the guitar and I got worried that if the guitar is going to make me lose whatever hair is left on my head, I ain't goin near that damn thing anymore. 😉
Thanks!

Thank you! I just deleted from my playlist five other videos that simply muddied the water.
Awesome comment to receive. I'm trying to build a reputation for accuracy and clarity, so I really appreciate hearing that. Thank you John.
Wish you could do solo Sultan of Swing for us

How to transpose the solo if I sing in Em?

Hi Roderick, if you tell me which chart you would like in standard notation, I will arrange it for you and make it available on the download page.

You know, if the first 18 seconds wasn't covered up I could have learned it perfectly without having to listen to 18 minutes of it. Next.
Wasn't my intention. Hope you got something out of it.

The intro that you are playing and the tablature is different at the very beginning (several notes are missing)
