You don't make it sound very fun. Well said and I agree. Anther dimension is if a youngster drives for a few years now, enjoys it and gives it up. Like many of us they may well come back in later years - love the thumbnail 😂
So, I attended my first carpet race this weekend at my local club and found that it isn't the place to get started RC racing. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, but their skill level is so high that a beginner like myself is more worried about causing them to crash and have a bad time. Until now, I've been racing on road outdoors with a group called Road Rash, and they have a class specifically for the kids. They are all over the track and having a blast! The smiles on their faces when they hear their names being cheered as their cars cross the line are priceless. Also, 1st and second places get bumped to the C main and drive quite well. Point of this rant is that it is hard to get into racing at long established clubs because the intimidation of trying to run with the vets is so high compared to most enthusiasts skill level. Having a lower class where parents can try to get their young ones to try and see if they like it would make a huge difference.
I totally agree with where you guys are coming from. Children aren't the only way to grow a hobby, outreach should focus on adults too. Especially given how much talk there is about the benefits for mental health and the on going men's mental health epidemic. I finally got my act together and went to my 1st club race yesterday, it was fantastic. Couldn't have asked for a better day, beautiful weather, friendly helpful people and I finished 2nd in the Novice B Main out of 18 total entries in the class. I'm really hooked now and have lost any remaining regret I had on dropping almost $800 on a hobby I hadn't really tried 😆
Love the concept and delivery in this video. I think the message is universal and not just limited to RC racing: play isn’t just for kids. Adults who play are healthier and happier. I love your mission of getting more people into RC and glad you realize that can mean getting adults (men and women) out playing with little cars too. Next time someone asks me why I’m playing with RC cars, I’m gonna respond with “Why aren’t you?” Oh, and never start taking yourselves too seriously! 😂
Personally, I think we need all ages involved in RC, whether it's 'serious' racing or otherwise. At the 2 clubs I go to regularly, Stevenage and Mill End, we get a good mix of ages as well as both males and females. Mill End is definitely a more relaxed atmosphere, but at Stevenage there are also a lot of different classes to suit all ages and budgets. The Tamiiya stock class is thriving, but the higher end Touring Car class is also doing well. I think the RC hobby is doing very well at present, but so long as we have channels like yours it'll continue to grow....
That's a good point, trying to get all ages down to the track. I have often handed the controller to my niece and a grandaughter and they've driver really well, and I've let them know it. I think your approach to the hobby and this channel has done great things to help along the hobby!
Im not going to say its expensive to do rc racing compared to motocross or gokart and i can agree for a young kid that dont got an income and small candy budget at the end of the week a kit and motors to start out with for €800 might as well be a milion its a fantasy number to them.

You should know that the only reason why the hobby seems to be growing is simply because of population growth. There are simply more people looking for something to do. Same applies with RUclips. You could have 2 identical unboxing/review videos with only 1 difference which is the price of the vehicle. The less expensive RC will get more views simply because there are a lot more people looking for inexpensive RC’s compared to those looking for higher priced vehicles. Both videos have the same value BUT to everyone else there is a huge difference. All people can see is the inflation rate but they are ignoring the real reasons why it’s happening. The world is changing so you either adapt or you die. Simple as that. It doesn’t matter if you like it or not this hobby has to evolve from what it is right now.
I raced rc as kid with my trusty Tamiya Hornet before progressing to a Schumacher Cougar. I’ve always had rc cars since but not club raced since the 90’s. wierdly ont he talk of Lawn Bowls, I see absolutely loads of young people playing Lawn Bowls in Aus, seems to be a pretty popular sport among people who aren't up for like, contact sports or really strenuous stuff.
I see plenty of kids down at Herts with their dads, with the intention of dad-son time. But 90% of the kids dont come back. The dads often join up though! Kids have different distractions these days, and the hobby has to be fluid and think differently. I think clubs (in general) often lack enthusiasm and not willing to try new ideas. It makes it a bit daunting to people new to the hobby.
The question should be, "is the hobby good for the kids?" How does a kid get the money if they don't have a paying job? How does a kid get to a track if they can't drive? How much time can a kid devote to becoming a decent driver, if they need to focus on school? I was in the hobby. Once I was old enough to have a paying job, my money was going elsewhere and eventually a real car.
