I recently got Shaodw Striker in the Ross sales and I have been liking her way more than I thought I would. Vehicle mode is weird, yeah, but that transformation turned out pretty good. Side Burn just looks even better with the brighter colors.
Just a quick note, for those of you who have clearance issues with the roof of the vehicle tabbing into place in Robot Mode, there is an easy way to fix that; during transformation, turn the hands so that the back of each hand is flat against the doors (in robot mode, turn them so that the palms face up) before you tab the roof into place, it will fit together perfectly if you do that. This is also true for the Shadow Striker version of the toy.
I got mine thanks to Evan, too. Goddammit. I liked Shadow Striker pretty okay, and I love me some RiD Car Bros, so it wasn't too hard to convince me. I'm very disappointed in the toy itself, but I like the concept. Good as Shadow Striker, but needed more than a new head to be Sideburn. Also, mine doesn't fit together very well in alt mode.
I have the Shadow Striker version of this mold and I store the gun inside the car under the roof/shield. There's just enough room in there for it. I like the mold, especially the transformation and I've been pretty tempted to grab it again with Omega Prime on the way!
That altmode is unforgivable (though I do find it amusing that he drives into every situation crotch-first), but the transformation engineering's impressive and the robot mode's quite serviceable. RiD was actually my first real introduction to the franchise, and I'd love to have a Sideburn on my shelf again, but a lot of the original figure's appeal for me was the surprisingly-accurate Dodge Viper altmode, and that's the one thing this figure just doesn't pull off.
I understand where you're coming from, but to play devil's advocate, they would have to pay licensing fees if it looked too close to the original alt mode and that would dramatically increase the price of the figure. It's the same reason Bumblebee almost never looks like an actual Volkswagon Beetle or why the Studio Series Jazz figure doesn't actually look like a Porsche 911 Turbo.
If they could even GET the liscense. Dodge is notoriously a stickler for it, same as Ferrari. They actually did get in legal trouble over the original Side Burn figure so I dont blame them for making it as legally distinct as possible
The original figure wasn't licensed either--it was genericized just enough to dodge (lol) any issues with licensing, same as pretty much all of the new molds for RiD. Even if it wasn't specifically a Dodge Viper, I still think they could've put more time and effort into making the altmode more of a sleek sports car and less...crotch-forward.
I have both versions of this mold and personally I hate shadow striker in bot mode but can't stand sideburn in carmode even more. The idea was cool but I personally don't like the mold because of how it conflicts with both characters. I wish they would have both been new molds because I really liked the shadow striker from cyberverse and the original sideburn's car mode [based on a late 90s viper gts] is still an amazing looking car mode. It annoys me because now who knows if we'll ever get these characters again in their proper car/bot modes [probably won't happen unless 3rd party takes a crack at it]
Really wish the vehicle was larger compared to wavemates such as C.Hot Shot, also that the bumper should have been rounder and plug into the shoulder. Otherwise rather like this figure more than expected.
I have the original RID toys of Optimus, Magnus, and the autobot brothers. To be honest though, while this one looks easier to transform and the Haslab Omega Prime looks neat, I'm gonna stick with the original figures. Call me crazy, but I loved Sideburn's tricky transformation and the original Dodge Viper car mode.
can definitely see with what they were going for but with a lot of these figures they don't exactly capture the aesthetics of the originals really well or at least thats just my opinion on it.
Rid 01 was where i got my start in the franchise, so yes, this was a MUST for me
This figure grows on me more and more. Yes the alt mode is still not good, but the robot mode is pretty alright
Awesome review of Legacy United Side Burn! Loved seeing the RID Universe details on this figure

Ah. I’ll have to try that.
The Autobot brothers will be united once again!

I don't have OG X-Brawn anymore, but if they make a new one and it's decent, I might get it for my own Omega Prime.

Yeah, this one is a hard pass from me. I'll stick to the OG one, thanks.
I’m pretty sure the haslab omega prime doesn’t ship until October 2025…same with the cobra rattler. So we have a year to wait.

Literally the only reason I may pick him up is because I backed the Haslab Omega Prime set. Otherwise I don’t have any interest in this toy.
You have the roof of the car on the wrong arm. It was always on his left arm.
