  • For our first video EVER here at The Urban Villager, we bring you Chicken Pallipalayam! This is a South Indian dish which we LOVE to eat with chapatis and rice.
Tender pieces of chicken smothered in a rich sauce concentrated with chillies...what else would you want after a tiring day at work/school (which is not really the case right now because we are in quarantine!).
We made this on our rocket stove outside, which gives it an out-of-this-world flavour, but you can easily make it on your stove inside as well and it is just as good!!
    Ingredients:
750g chicken, cut to your liking
    2 red onions, chopped
    Several chunks of coconut, skin-on
    2.5cm/1 inch ginger
    3-4 cloves of garlic
    1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    7 deseeded red chillies
    4 whole dried Kashmiri/paprika chillies
    1/2 tsp peppercorns
    1/2 tsp cumin
Oil of your choice (we used coconut)
    Salt to taste
    Method:
    1. Heat up coconut oil and salt.
    2. Once hot, add your peppercorns and cumin seeds and gently fry.
    3. Add all your chillies and toss around.
    4. Then, add your chopped onions.
    5. Fry this mixture until it becomes golden brown and soft.
    6. After that, add your ginger, garlic and turmeric and mix.
    7. Add your chicken and cover the pan for 15/20 minutes.
    8. After, take the lid off and simmer to your desired consistency.
    9. Add your coconut chunks at the very end.
Your Chicken Pallipalayam is ready to eat!
