Sad part is, a lot of characters do really have unique mechanics in the game, my favorite is Okkotsu summoning Rika, which gives him basically free counters when hit + unlimited cursed energy and a literal TOD ultimate, but only if your team loses "lives". Some other minor ones are Toge having to drink cough medicine if he uses enough attacks, Panda getting super armor in Gorilla mode or Nanami buffing his ass up in the last minute or so of the game because he hates overtime (among other characters) When the game was announced, i thought "Meh, another Storm-like game", whish it could be closer to that.
the game seems like it had some cool ideas, but didnt have the time to flesh them out. and if that's true, then I feel bad for the devs that wanted to make this game good, but had to release it unfinished and sloppy.

It's not as simple as "the devs didn't care"; knowing the industry behind JJK, the developers were probably given $5 for a budget, and given three weeks to make the game so that they could profit off of the success of the second season.

ive worked in sound design for games, not in many years but i used to. . not even kidding i think literally 90-95% of every sound effect here is a stock, royalty free sound effect. Every melee weapon is pulled from one of the most popular free soundbanks. . shits fine for smaller games i guess, but these sound effects are *15+* years old. Theres no reason to still use them and it makes shit sound so cheap
I have a feeling that the budget for this game was only enough to pay a tiny dev team minimum wage, and the total development time was maybe 6-8 months.
One thing I like is how Gojo gets 7 bars, and Yuta gets 8 bars, compared to the others getting 3-4 bars of cursed energy, reflecting their actual cursed energy amounts.
I love how Yuji is capable of being able to do a Black Flash in the beginning of the game it really shows how much the devs know about the anime and shows this is such a good game

Having damage tied to the final hit of a single combo string has got to be the dumbest decision i have ever seen. it makes the combat which is all this game has to offer unredeemable.
the combos are supposed to build up the cursed energy meter, then you deal damage with the actual cursed techniques, but Charlie didnt use cursed techniques with nobara, except the ultimate (you can explode the nails with a cursed techinique for good damage)

It's Bandai-Namco, specifically. They crank these out conveyor-belt style, using the same engine. The engine of this game is VERY clearly the same one used for the My Hero Academia arena fighters, and likely all the other recent low budge anime games by them. In 2019 they put out like a half dozen of them all at once, for practically every topical anime license they had.

@phanntomgami There are only about 3 major anime games that are unique; the storm series, the dragon ball tenkaiichi series, and the one piece series. Every other major anime copies one of those three formulas and just changes the UI and add some different elements. There hasn't been a unique major anime game in YEARS. It's easier to just copy something that has worked in the past and then try something new.
Crazy thing is that this is the best type of game for jjk. Its suits the battles almost perfectly. It definitely needed more polish. Maybe a open world side mission thing where u go on missions to slay out on curses/ussers in a dynasty warrior type of way

It's always so strange to me how almost every shounen anime could make a complete slam dunk of a game, and it's not even hard to envision if you use some creativity. Why is Dragon Ball the only anime getting good games, when it's so easy to imagine a good Naruto or One Piece game. It's not like the production value would even be much higher either, they put so much effort into the Ninja Storm cutscenes and presentation, but when you actually pay the game it's literal a baby button masher. A good Naruto game would be so easy to envision.

This is a big problem for Anime tie-in games. The studios want them pumped out as quickly as possible to capitalize on the hype of the show while i lasts, which always results in a product that you couldn't even call half-baked.

As someone who pretty much exclusively plays on mouse and keyboard, it feels like sometime and somewhere these past 10 years they lost the manual of basic mouse and keyboard controls 101, and now game companies just don't know proper controls anymore. -Bunch of games don't have jump on the freakin' space bar anymore, -crouch is X, why X, it's placed weirdly, should be shift or control, -sprint is C or something, should also be shift or control, -Walk on Z, that's Alt -The use button on G or something, it's E for crying out loud -Switch weapon on R, that's Q, -Reloading on F, that's the freakin' R button -Flashlight on H, that's F -Or like selecting your inventory on Z, X, C and V, heck i've seen those on J, K, L and ;, yes the ";" button..... WHY NOT 1, 2, 3 AND 4 Horrible controls are the worst, every game i play i literally spent the first hour or so looking at controls cause it's so atrociously bad that it makes me think developers these days don't play on mouse and keyboard anymore. Japanese (and probably Chinese and Korean) companies are the worst offenders of this i do say.
you keep saying mouse and keyboard, but its a fighting game, theres no mouse. you can only lock on to different targets so mousing is useless, better to have the player put both hands on the keyboard instead.

It's not as simple as "the devs didn't care"; knowing the industry behind JJK, the developers were probably given $5 for a budget, and given three weeks to make the game so that they could profit off of the success of the second season.

Having damage tied to the final hit of a single combo string has got to be the dumbest decision i have ever seen. it makes the combat which is all this game has to offer unredeemable.
the combos are supposed to build up the cursed energy meter, then you deal damage with the actual cursed techniques, but Charlie didnt use cursed techniques with nobara, except the ultimate (you can explode the nails with a cursed techinique for good damage)

It's Bandai-Namco, specifically. They crank these out conveyor-belt style, using the same engine. The engine of this game is VERY clearly the same one used for the My Hero Academia arena fighters, and likely all the other recent low budge anime games by them. In 2019 they put out like a half dozen of them all at once, for practically every topical anime license they had.

Every other major anime copies one of those three formulas and just changes the UI and add some different elements. There hasn't been a unique major anime game in YEARS. It's easier to just copy something that has worked in the past and then try something new.

Dragon Ball had decades to experiment with their games. Dragon Ball also has bad games, it's just that those bad games are overshadowed by the good ones.
This is a big problem for Anime tie-in games. The studios want them pumped out as quickly as possible to capitalize on the hype of the show while i lasts, which always results in a product that you couldn't even call half-baked.
The silence after you beat the opponent and they fly away and say some cringe line is the funniest, goofiest sh to me. The music straight up just reminds me of danganronpa too.

-Bunch of games don't have jump on the freakin' space bar anymore,
-crouch is X, why X, it's placed weirdly, should be shift or control,
-sprint is C or something, should also be shift or control,
-Walk on Z, that's Alt
-The use button on G or something, it's E for crying out loud
-Switch weapon on R, that's Q,
-Reloading on F, that's the freakin' R button
-Flashlight on H, that's F

Horrible controls are the worst, every game i play i literally spent the first hour or so looking at controls cause it's so atrociously bad that it makes me think developers these days don't play on mouse and keyboard anymore.
