I actually saw an ariel musical that was staged at a movie theatre, that was converted into theatre long ago, and they used ropes to make the main characters literally flying in mid-air and the whole stage whicj was square and big generally looked like a big aquarium.

Eh, that just mean that it's amazing compared to other actors', not super amazing by itself. Kinda hard to bring cartoon to life though because of how expressive cartoon can be in facial expression and body language. I have never really seen anyone pull off Ursula's charm completely.

She is not natural and spontaneous like Pat Carroll the first voice actress or Sherie Renee Scott the original Broadway actress. Melissa cannot handle more stylized material like this NATURALLY. She is only good at playing "real" "modern" roles. Hence there was a LOTTTT missing from her performance as you noted

I do love this performance. I’m not crazy about the changes made for the stage version. I personally love the movie version of Ursula. I guess a meatier story was needed to put TLM on stage, but for me the movie was enough of a story. I really enjoy this actress as Ursula though. She really did kill it. I don’t understand really belting out “pathetic” at the beginning of the song. Isn’t that supposed to be more of an aside to Flotsam and Jetsam? Ursula sings it kind of under her breath in the film. It’s not really for Ariel to hear. It kind of undercuts the the line itself to really emphasize it so much, IMO. The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and my favorite childhood movie, so if I saw this in its entirety I’d probably spend days picking it apart LOL. It really was fun to watch.
