No matter how seasoned you are in watch collecting, Seiko is one of the most popular names you've come across. Loved by the veteran watch enthusiast and the average, new-to-the-game watch lover, it is viewed as the perfect entry-level watch brand! In 1967, while I was serving in the Australian Army in Malaysia, I bought the new Seiko 6217 MAS dive watch. It is still on my wrist and has never missed a beat. It has been serviced just once and is still a beautiful watch to look at.

The newfound hate is because they've increased their prices and poor quality control. I personally don't mind the price increase if they can justify with improved quality, but quality control issues need to be fixed especially when they're charging higher prices. I love Seiko, few other brands single handedly disrupted a whole industry.
That's not what he's talking about. All my friends mock me for not having a Rolex and think Seiko is a cheap toy company despite the fact that I have a blue enamel $1k+ hand painted watch by them. Same for my nb1060 citizens that are better quality than cheap Rolexes
I saw this so watched it purely because I have a twenty year old orange face dive Seiko watch on my arm. I don't think it has ever been off my wrist in that time except to change the date after a month with less than 31 days. As a back up I still have my black face Seiko dive watch I bought in the early 1980s. Still goes well. I bought it because I got an insurance payout when I lost my older Seiko dive watch (the strap broke) on an army exercise. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Seiko to anyone.
Seiko = all in house, that in itself is a big plus point. The 5 range is the best value for money for automatics.
Seiko does it all and does it extremely well. They don't have a niche and can hold their own in any market or price range. There aren't many watch brands that can do that. It deserves to be the GOAT.
It's because they doubled their prices lately and their QC lacks attention. Dial misalignment, bezel backplay on their 100- 999 dollar watches...
Even some Chinese brands have much better quality control.
I like Seiko. My most worn watch is a slightly modded skx. I also have a Rolex Explorer that doesn’t get nearly as much wrist time. I’ve owned several Seikos and a grand Seiko. In the GS price group, they need to make bracelets and especially clasps, that compete with Rolex and Tudor. On-the-fly adjustments like T-fit, glide lock and easy link should be on GS watches. Other than that, I’d choose my skx over entry level Swiss brands.
Can you use your rolex as daily😅 since everyone think is faked

If Seiko figured out how to align bezels and chapter rings on their entry-level watches they wouldn't catch so much heat.
It's not just their entry level.
The marine master bezels are also misaligned, I've seen it in person. Although I love the brand, It's absolutely unacceptable,
@@wertj3977 Big Oof. It's crazy to me, too it would be such an easy fix like a 5-minute training video for their watchmakers they just refuse to do it.
They should learn from their watch homager like pagani 😂😂

I can afford a more expensive watch now but I still wear my seiko. It’s been all over the world with me it has never let me down
Seiko has a marketing problem. They need to position their brand better. When they make $100 watches, it is hard to justify buying a $5000 Seiko, and harder to justify to buy a $10000 Grand Seiko. They should split the brand into three. One brand for sub $1000 watches. One brand for $1000 to $5000 watches. and one brand for above $5000 watches. The three brands cannot all have the word "Seiko" in them. Luxury watches above a certain amount are status symbols more than functioning timepieces. Without a distinct identity, its a hard-sell to convince people splurging so much money on a watch that shares the same brand as a $100 watch.
Grand Seiko should have it's own name, Seiko watch company should only appear on the back. As for the rest, I think they should only make $125, $250, and $450-500 mechanical watches. And the latter two should come with sapphire crystals.

I have 7 Seiko in my collection. Seiko is one of my favourite brands.

I have a Casio Duro and the bezel lines up. Seiko has lost the plot
The other big cheap automatic movement maker mijota, preform better in durability, accuracy and consistency. Also Seikos movements getting worse year by year in quality control with over oiled movements and movements that are unstable and all over the place.

But now it's 2024. Has this issue finally resolved?
I have 2 Seikos, a Presage and a Seiko 5. They're both amazing. That' being said, they have downsides, you know, crystals and straps. Why do I not get a sapphire crystal on 500$+ Presage? And why should I look for replacement straps or bracelets? However, they keep time accurately (better than listed specs) and they have the prettiest dials in their price range.
Wish a seiko watch with built quality pressage/grand seiko with simple quartz for the price down like example Tissot prx.

Seiko is the Toyota of the watch world. Grand Seiko = Lexus

QC under $1K: expect bezel misalignment (you might find a unicorn that lines up) - Seiko entry level, they just don't care.

Watch enthusiasts tend to respect and often own Seikos.
The issue with seiko is movements on mid range line erratic. They need to guarantee say within plus 10 seconds a day instead of plus or minus 30.

great vid, you can not beat them, ive a Tuna and turtle they have never let me down.
I have overlooked bezel misalignment but I stopped buying Seikos because they just don't even bother to regulate any of the 21600 bps movements. And I suspect them not regulating their 28800 bps movements either. So you can spend as much as $3-4k on a beautifully zeratsu polished but incredibly inaccurate watch. No more new Seikos. I only buy Sinn and top quality Swiss movements now.
Seiko is the best.... i have more then 20 of them. They have a soul not like other brands....
Nothing wrong with Seiko , some great watches out there . And you can get some great Seiko modded watches too .

Me like a Seiko fan my favorite watch is the Rolex datejust.
I dont Care at all what other peoples are thinking.!!! I wear it proudly on my wrist. Some Details at the watches are amazing. I dont want to run after every Trend what other peoples are dooing , If they want to wait for a overpriced Swiss Watch for years on some Face Control lists they can do it 😂.I dont and i am Happy with my Seiko collection. Casik and seiko for daily
Seiko spoiled us with the SARB s and the SKX s but their accountants didn't like it. At least the small old new stock Seiko 5s are still an amazing value (eg SNXS79, SNKL23 / 41)
Seiko never marketed themselves as luxury. It's just marketing.

Seiko is ok. I have three and for budget watches they aren’t too bad. Grand seiko is magnificent.
Shame that the Seiko quality control standards are worse than some cheap Chinese products. NO point in trying to tell us all that they have good quality control, because they DON'T and any watch collector knows it! I don't for one minute dislike Seiko, I own 3 myself, but the QC leaves a lot to be desired! Thankfully my knowledge of watches has improved from how it was a few years ago when I thought that Seiko was of the same quality level as Sekonda!! :( Terrible mis-service to Seiko!).
Sir, is it those with Japanese movement but "Cased in China" displayed on the caseback? Or those under $1,000 USA dollars? I'm about to buy a Seiko Moon Phase, but am hesitant about this.
Seiko and Grand Seiko does do marketing. Buy any watch magazine and you will see their ads.
I feel seiko is like a invicta upgrade but gs it ok and every buy a invicta o seiko is dreaming to have a rolex😅 . Tudor the best

Of course they'll hate Seiko. Seiko almost killed most of the Eu watch brands thats why. But it wont happen because Seiko has a solid fan base and innovation and Seiko's dont priced high not unlike other brands

Does finishing and quality control count for anything and materials matter because they are no longer the best value for money especially under 1000$ usually give you hard lex which is marketing jargon on the Mose scale scratch’s the same , most micro brands and killing seiko in quality control materials and price

What I can't understand about Seiko is how Rolex can guarantee +/- 2 per day on all its watches, and Seiko can't.
A Seiko can easily be regulated acceptably by a watchmaker.

Its all propaganda you know why because SEIKO almost killed the swiss watches of course its not ok. But Seiko has a loyal patrons who understands watch culture and hype. Seiko is better because it gives a real value to your money. How and why? no matter how good is the watch its not enough to demand millions for it, it creates abuse and false belief that its always better because of the name brand. Thats why SEIKO stands to all because it manage to sell and stay with out selling ridiculous amount of money. Just my opinion
Grand Seiko is garbage too
I have had several. Sold some and kept some. The ones I kept is because they were presents. Accurate? No ! My best is an SKX and my worst is a SARB 033. 35 seconds slow per day. My Orients are far more accurate. My Hamiltons and Tissots are the most accurate. I will not buy another Seiko.
I had 3 Seiko 5s and they all crapped out at the 4-6 months mark. No more Seikos for me.
Their movement is lousy for the money. 1k watches can get COSC movements. Seiko couldn't give such tolerance at that price. It will eat into their GS line
