Honestly more of these deconstructions would really be great for Ristar. The whole OST is a hidden gem. I'd love to hear more, plus they help out my remixing a ton to ensure accuracy.
I've always wondered what the origin of the sample at 3:06 is, it sounds like a crowd or something of that nature, really neat sample and it goes well with the song.
This is actually really good! I'd definitely suggest both of the water world tracks from Ristar, they both have some pretty neat instruments used in them.
3:06 Ok srsly, what in the hell is that dude saying? Wet Wombiay? Het Hombiay? Let's run the gay? Get on the A? Get Bomberay? Let's come me A? Ret Rombiay? Bet on the ray? Welcome me gay? Met mommy yay? Damn you DAC limitations! If you didn't make the voices so compressed, I would know exactly what you were saying! (or if I knew the og sample, but the matter would still be to translate what he/she is saying)
Is it just my imagination or is the 3:06 bit much quieter on the actual console? I remember the first time I played Ristar on an emulator being struck by how loud it was, it washed out the rest of the song.
Yes, it is significantly quieter especially on a model 1 MegaDrive/Genesis because of the discrete YM2612’s low-pass audio filter, makes the harsher tones much softer, samples included.
Ristar's OST is my ideal Genesis/Mega Drive OST. I hate the iconic "Genesis Twang" of almost all the console's western-developed titles (most notoriously Sonic Spinball) and even many of its Japanese titles, but Ristar sounds like a Super Nintendo game in all the best ways, having really prominent bass, playful synths, and surprisingly clear percussion samples.
The sample rate for digitised sounds on the Genesis was very low, games would often use more similar drum samples but Ristar used vocals that more emphasise how low it actually was.
I think it has something to do with the sound driver, Most games use the SMPS driver, while some, like for example, Dynamite Headdy, were modified to sound better.

the DAC channel putting in extra work for this track 😭😭
I LOVE YOU. I eat these videos for breakfast, lunch and Dinner. thank you so much for creating these.
So, this game was made in 1995. But it didn't have much attention like other games. But this soundtrack is awesome.
6:15 EVERYBODY NOW!!
Well, it wasn't made but rather released in '95, developed in 1994.
1:23 my favorite part the organ.

It sounds like I’m Ready
IDK, but the percusion of this theme it reminds me so much to the Carnival Night's percussion.

Nice, a Double upload. Christmas is a day early!
I'd love to see this done to the first part of Planet Scorch, a.k.a. "Busy Flame".

An update as to what Tomoko Sasaki does nowadays would be so refreshing.
Is it just my imagination or is the 3:06 bit much quieter on the actual console? I remember the first time I played Ristar on an emulator being struck by how loud it was, it washed out the rest of the song.
It might be quieter, you might be right.
I can relate

@@Karnage233 Thank you. I seriously thought I was losing my mind the first time I played Ristar on an emulator.

Do 1-1 from Mega Turrican
This stages music is so deceptive as to what trials await further ahead
Can u do it but with sonic advance 3 in the future?(i love twinkle snow:) )
terrible sample playback on the DAC, or is it intentional...?
The sample rate for digitised sounds on the Genesis was very low, games would often use more similar drum samples but Ristar used vocals that more emphasise how low it actually was.
Keep in mind that in that game, there is actually 2 DAC channels.
