    In September 2019 I set out on my first ever attempt at hiking the West Highland Way. I did this to raise funds for Therapet Scotland, in memory of my dog Belle who sadly passed away from cancer.. This is the video of day 1, where I walked from Milngavie to Rowardennan.

      @@benzatim1 That's awesome you got to do the WHW with your dog. What type of dog is he/she and how did they find it? I was actually doing the WHW to raise money in memory of my dog, Belle, who passed away in May. There's a video on my channel about it.
      Anyway, thanks for the comment. Really appreciate it.

    Thanks for the memories. I did the hike in April/May 1983, or was it 82? I was en route while the Falkland War was in full swing. My pal had a small radio so we were able to keep up to date with the news. The supreme efforts of our forces made us more determined than ever to complete the hike. We cut a pretty sight hobbling into Fort William, he with a huge heel blister and me who had pilled a muscle in my leg after resting in snow above The Devil's Staircase.

      That sounds like it was one hell of a hike Charles. Glad you guys managed to push through and finish it. Thanks for sharing the memory. 😊

    This is awesome! Great video :) We wished we had our set up back when we did the WHW to document it too. Makes us want to go and do it all over again!

    Wow what a nice video. Loved the different types of views you have compared to what we have in Kentucky. Definitly subbing to your channel. cant wait to see what you get into next. Happy Hiking.

      Only just noticed this comment. Thank you for subbing. I imagine the weather in Kentucky is a little bit drier than here in Scotland. 😂

    It looked a wet one Ewan but I didn't actually see the rain fall on you. Just one of them things. I think we all do that use things as markers like the Beech Tree Inn. Good going though. I can appreciate how it drains you at the end of the day. Enjoying your company. Mark

      It was wet, then dry, then wet, then dry. Good old Scottish weather. 😂
      I tried not to film too much in heavy rain as I was scared of damaging my camera.

    that was a huge distance for day one, and as u said in yr post hike vid, too far, most ppl stop at the campsite at drumquhassle, or in dryman or camp in the QE forest park ( as i did) but lessons learned, My first day on the WHW nearly ended in disaster as i had travelled 12hr on a coach from devon, arrived 6 am in glasgow, straight to the start and off i went, time i got to QE wood, i literally collapsed and slept for 14 hrs..luckly next morning i felt better and carried on.I really yr film tho, like the way u film and edit, so hopefully hasnt put u off doing more hikes...ATB WJ

      It definitely hasn't put me off. Can't wait to get back out there. I was walking with an American group for a while who stopped at the Campsite in Drymen. I was still feeling somewhat fresh at that point. I imagine things may have turned out different if I'd stopped with them.
      Thanks for commenting on the video. 😊

    Following on from your other video, the other mistake I made when filming my walk was to film in portrait sometimes, and not to film everything in landscape. Big mistake on my part, but I am new to this.

    • @EwanGoesHiking
      @EwanGoesHiking  5 лет назад

      I'm used to filming portrait just from using other cameras. I know a few hiking folk that film purely for social media (Snapchat, etc) who film exclusively in portrait.

    How do people know which way to go?

    • @EwanGoesHiking
      @EwanGoesHiking  4 года назад +1

      There are posts marking the entire route. You should research any route before heading out anyway.

      Found it! My brother and I passed you on the way, we can be seen in the distance heading towards glengoyne distillery, we stopped at the beech tree in and wild camped just passed drymen for the night, horrendous weather that whole week! But really enjoyed the walk, doing it again September

      @@leegrieve5144 Awesome. I'll be doing it again this year (in its entirety this time) Hopefully the weather is a bit better for you guys this time around. Was that the first time you both walked the WHW?

      @leegrieve5144 5 лет назад

      Yes, first time doing any long distance walking, taking it easy and being well prepared made a big difference in our case. Also walking the Rob Roy way in March, have you walked this?

      @@leegrieve5144 The Rob Roy way is definitely on my to do list. Depending on how much time I can take from work this year I'm hoping I can tackle it too. 😊
