Kathryn: I'd rather they were clean 90s Me at my 45s: cool cool cool cool cool no doubt no doubt no doubt This barre was so good for my supporting leg control!! Really felt it through the hip and arches!
I am 60 and just started 75 Hard today. This was fantastic!! You are so encouraging, and I appreciate you acknowledging that things should be difficult. Thank you so much, from a fellow Kathryn.
I know what an old video this is now, but I'm finally at the point where I can do this one and enjoy it. I just wanted to thank you, Kathryn for your clearly paced teaching. You're doing good work.
I’m getting back to ballet for my senior year of high school after a 6 month injury and I’m so glad I did this class! I’ll see how I feel tomorrow but hopefully I can do this again in a few days!
thank you so much for making this video! i’ve been in and out of ballet my entire life and i’ve decided that this is the year i will take it into my own hands and become strong enough to do ballet.
when Katie announces "No barre" in the middle of an exercise Me: Uh-oh 47 mins later... Me:😨😨😨😨😨😱😱😱😱😱never knew it was this hard. No wonder it is called "Begginer"
Hi, can any ballet beauty help me with this question? I get neck and shoulder pain after ballet workout. I know that I should engage my back, but don’t know why my neck and shoulders are very stiffen after the day of workout. Is there a way to engage the back but not make the neck and shoulder feel pain? Thanks!
Hi Kathryn, I’m 50 and just got back into ballet. I’d love to take your beginner online classes , but am worried to look embarrassing. I love ballet and your teaching videos are the best.
Hi May, me too- started at 58 so have been working at it for about 3 yrs now. Live Kathryns video classes. Have you tried the beginning Disney barre? It’s my favorite so far. Hopefully she will do more like that for us. Was diagnosed with RA two years ago and this has really helped me.
I'm 61 and getting back into ballet-after a 40 year hiatus. I'm also learning tap at long last. 😏 Kathryn's videos are a real inspiration. Ballet should be for joy, strength, health and for life!
That moment when you realize your "light touch" on the barre, was NOT EVEN. I LOVE HOW HARD THIS "beginner" barre is. I can see why doing this would cause huge improvement. Thank you thank you so much! -adult ballerinas everywhere
I was having a bit of a bad morning, and when the notification popped up it instantly made me smile😊. I can’t wait to do this after school!!! Looking forward to it, thank you!
I just took my first ballet class two days ago. 25 years old. Working muscles I didn’t know I hadn’t worked before in my fitness regimen. Learning some French as well. Thank you for making these!
I danced ballet my entire childhood. I am now 45 and SO OVER running or HIIT training for fitness. Just yesterday it dawned on me that I should go back to what my soul used to love - ballet. So I googled classes and found you. This was AMAZING! I am so happy now and I can't stop smiling. I appreciate you! :-)
Starting a health journey after many years off of ballet as a 35 year old adult, some injuries, major weight gain, etc. I'm using this class as my reentry into my goal of going back to inperson classes (whenever that happens). Day 1: made it through tendus. I have to keep reminding myself that the competition isn't real. I just want to be stronger mentally and physically.
"I have to keep reminding myself that the competition isn't real" dear God that's a real talk, almost same case with me :D how you doing with your goals?
I started this barre thinking "I'll try the plies and tendus without the barre" and ended this barre having done the whole thing in center. R.I.P. my calves and feet tomorrow
as a dyspraxic dancer, I always do every exercise twice (once for my brain, once for my body) as it takes me longer to pick up material. prior to these barres I've always had to rewind at each exercises! I know this probably wasn't your intention when creating this, but wanted to say what an incredible bonus it is for me and am sure many other dancers who learn differently. not to mention the extra balance and strength! thank you for everything you do!
I'm 74!! ( according to my birth date - but i don't feel it and RESIST!) I love KMs approach - so stretching, and still possible and positive in every way. Always feel a buzz when I've done this workout!
This was really good to do! I'm 43 and doing ballet barre next to my kitchen counter. Thanks so much! 🙂 Husband (who is now used to my daily ballet efforts) walked in, heard some of your quips, grinned, and said "She's funny!" 😁
Kathryn, thank you! ...From myself and all of my friends from our fight gym. We're not dancers but you have saved many of us from serious injuries over the last 2 or more years since we discovered your channel. Our hips, knees, and ankles have never been healthier.
I'm a beginner, I started less than 2 years ago. But my first teacher always made us do some barre work without a barre. Especially plies and balancing moves. I am so grateful for her doing that, it definitely helped me a lot with balance!
This was SO helpful! I didn't do ballet as a child, and now in classes am often confused about the details of footwork. You laid it all out so clearly. Love the core work too :)
I scoffed at “beads of sweat” before I started ballet. Now, I’m always the girl with sweat marks showing through her leotard half an hour into the class xD
Kathryn you’re such a thorough and encouraging teacher. Coming back to ballet at 40 and this class destroyed me (in a good way). Thank you for providing it!
Everytime I see notifications of this channel, I smile. For these barres, it has been extremely challenging but I noticed even if it's little progress, that I'm improving. I love your videos and at my opinion you are the best, speaking about content, personality and honestity.
Wow. I haven't danced for the last few months and this was a killer way to get back into it. Thanks so much Kathryn! My legs are burning and the rest of me is sweating :D
I've been taking this latest lockdown (our third 🥺) to really work on my turnout and stability, doing 'easier' exercises as I concentrate on the new-to-me cues from my teacher. This was perfect! I was shaking by fondus 😂😂👌
I’ve been doing this daily for a week and it has helped me so much! My calves hurt so much the first day after but I can tell that I’ve gotten a lot stronger since. I could lift my legs up higher, my legs and hips are not as sore or worked out when doing certain moves in other beginner ballet classes. I love this class!
Hi! I’m a young dancer who also dances at school. Today this was our assignment. Although most of the arms where not what I’ve been taught I still had lots of fun!
I loveeee those barres! I had planned on having a slow morning reading, but when I saw this, I just had to do it, and now well, I am fully energized :) Thank you!!!
This was an AMAZING balance conditioning excersize, especially since I've definitely been lacking that in my quarantine practice with limited center space. Definitely tough but felt really good to wake those muscles back up!
I love the music Kathie. I recommend you the Sylvain Durand music for ballet barre. He's amazing. Sur les pointes avec une etoile. Kisses and love from Argentina .
I feel like I saw you last night after my dance class at the Covington Regional Ballet! We walked out of the studio to leave and I saw someone who looked just like you!
me too , Istarted balled at 23 y/o and advanced to pointe, I was a runner too, which helped with strength , with ballet alone I lost a lot of weight, never professional, but I was in a show at disney and that was my only professional debut...it has been more than 20 years now, I continue practicing first on my own, but this channel is the best..that means you can advance as much as you like too
Did this after a full day of dancing street, jazz and ballet (doing a performing arts degree) and it really centered me after a long day of technique and choreo! Thanks and lots of love from a dane in Sweden
GOODNIGHT am I glad I didn't try the advanced one first. I got through 20 minutes. Per tradition, this 50 year old will get there eventually! This one is hard but also SO VERY FUN. Thank you, again, My Dear!
Oh and it's normal for your balance to be way better on one side, right? One of those things I always wanted to ask my ballet teachers but I was the shy girl who just did the work and didn't ask questions;).
Hi Kathryn, I am 55, and took ballet classes for a few years when I was 8-9, then again at 13 but stopped after that. In my 30s and 40s I got more into sports (running/hiking) and then had to do yoga to heal. my injuries. I found ballet workout classes were very therapeutic for my weak ankles. I especially enjoy your classes, much more so than NYC Ballet workout classes. So a huge thanks. And I wanted to comment about. your apology after one session re your weight and thyroid. I am sorry that you had to go through that, but keep in mind that not all your students are professional dancers and some of us appreciate seeing a dancer looking more like us! Thanks again.
I have done this barre at least 15 times at this point, it's challenging and fun no matter how many times I do it. This is getting me through lockdown :)
I've been learning ballet everyday for 2 months now, I'm so happy I could do almost everything!! When I get better I will apply for a dance school, It's my dream since I was a kid. Thank you for the class!!
I am not strong enough in my core to take my hand off the barre for some of these without hurting myself, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I could do without the barre! Thank you for the encouragement. There was a bit of judging going on (not always the bad kind though), so thanks for calling me out. ;)
I've never done ballet or dance in my life because my mom didn't allow it. I started doing these videos in the beginning of quarantine and I'm amazed that I was actually able to keep up with this. Idk how pretty it was but I had fun.
SOOO i'm 16 yo, rn I go to contemporary dance but i've been wanting to do ballet for YEARS, hopefully i'll join ballet classes in two weeks but i still wanted to tried this, i don't have a barre at my house so i did the whole things without it BUT It was so much fun thankyou for this video💗💗💗💗
Thank you so much for your channel! Your online classes helped me a lot. Especially during Covid-19, when I was stuck at home and could not attend ballet classes, and I love to dance! I learned a lot from you. Also, my english has improved. At first, I was looking for some RUclips channels in my language, but couldn't find anything suitable. As I started exercising with you, I didn't understand much, but with time, I began to understand more and more. You have such a variety of exercises and movements. It's amazing! I am very happy that I've found your channel :-)
Thank you Kathryn your such a beautiful dancer i’ve only been taking adult ballet classes for seven years. I’m currently taking a workshop with the National Ballet Of Canada in Toronto on Sunday morning and studio at the Prima studio a beautiful, beautiful studio, where all the professional dancers rehearse and take their classes during the week I’m very lucky to be there on Sunday mornings so I go to a beginner adult class and I’m learning a lot and thank you for your video
I love, how every time after I screwed up completely, there is: "Do not judge", and when I'm giving up: "Do not give up". Like Kathryn actually can see me))) My feet hurt, but I finished it and will do it again!
I loved this so much! As an adult ballet student whose dance history contained very little ballet (mostly jazz and musical theatre/character styles), I appriciate these beginner/simple technique videos (with and without explaination) SO MUCH! There's so much detail but done is a clear and concise way! This video was especially helpful doing the exercises with and then without the barre as I tend to fall apart when I get to centre, so thank you! Also, do you have spyware? Becuase the first time you said, "Don't judge; just let it happen." I was judging myself SO hard! Thank you again!
Katie!! My favorite teacher in the world!!! I love how much your classes are evolving! you are such a gift to the Ballet world! Keep on shinning! LOVE your leotard too! XOXO
Hi Kathryn !!! I love these videos so much... Is there a video you could do to help with popping/cracking/snapping hips when doing developpe or anything hip flexor related that would be amazing !! Thank you so much for all your videos I love them so much !! Lauren :)

Just envisioned Jake Peralta doing ballet ... =]
Pregnant for almost 6 months, and this is perfect for me now^^ thank you Kathryn !

Katie: "Just because it's beginner doesn't mean it's easy." Me: *dies* :o SOOOO good though. I felt 5 inches taller after taking this class.
when Katie announces "No barre" in the middle of an exercise
Me: Uh-oh
47 mins later...
Me:😨😨😨😨😨😱😱😱😱😱never knew it was this hard. No wonder it is called "Begginer"
killer but I love it, thanks Katherine... keep up the good work. God bless you.
This is great! Is any of the piano music you Katie? :)
I'm a 63 year old dancer. I haven't done ballet in 40 years. I thought I could kind of pick up where I left off. What's a tendu? lol
Hi, can any ballet beauty help me with this question? I get neck and shoulder pain after ballet workout. I know that I should engage my back, but don’t know why my neck and shoulders are very stiffen after the day of workout. I would rewatch this all day without dancing just to hear someone say these encouraging things to me.
you are the nicest teacher. Always saying encouraging things, and not having us do things "one more time" 6 mil more times. lol
was really helpful narration
Indeed!! So true!❤
iam holiday Scotland this is my morning workout so thankyou Dr Katherine our I would end up really stiff.thanks joy
Hello, Kathryn. I'm 53 years old and started to take ballet classes 1 & half years ago. Love your videos so much. Thank you for sharing.
Hey May that's so inspiring. I truly think its never ever too late to start dancing. I am 26 and just started as well. Keep up the amazing work
@@madeline569 Started at 27 :) Let's keep it up!!!

"You do the same thing you always do, you get the same thing you've always got." Am I the only one who found that really inspiring?
I needed to hear that. On a physical level as well as spiritual. Writing that quote in my journal
me too
Even after a year of doing it, as soon as she says this quote, it inspires me and causes me to try a little harder during the following exercises 🙈
These past two "no-barre barres" you've posted have been the best, most helpful, and most encouraging barres I've done all quarantine. THANK YOU
I was having a bit of a bad morning, and when the notification popped up it instantly made me smile😊. I can’t wait to do this after school!!! Looking forward to it, thank you!
My pleasure!
"Better 90° than up there" My max. Is like 70° hahahahahaha
Same haha

"I have to keep reminding myself that the competition isn't real" dear God that's a real talk, almost same case with me :D how you doing with your goals?
It's been a good time since I did a ballet class and was missing so much. Have been doing the begginer class. Thank you for doing these videos
No one:
Katie, taking her hand off the barre: *mischievous grin*
I started this barre thinking "I'll try the plies and tendus without the barre" and ended this barre having done the whole thing in center. R.I.P. my calves and feet tomorrow
This barre really shows you what your weaknesses are and I love it. Great work, Kathryn! Thank you so much for making these videos!
There's something magical about it having a lot of Disney music! It makes it feel relaxed to me, and more fun (while still serious) in a sense.
Am finding this one harder than the advanced version! Great strengthening barre
as a dyspraxic dancer, I always do every exercise twice (once for my brain, once for my body) as it takes me longer to pick up material. prior to these barres I've always had to rewind at each exercises! Me: * hardly okay combo with barre *
Me: * obviously struggling through the combo with no barre, super crooked *
Katy: great!
Thanks so much! I still can't go to open classes b/c of the coronavirus, and this is so helpful!!
Kathryn, thank you!
...From myself and all of my friends from our fight gym. We're not dancers but you have saved many of us from serious injuries over the last 2 or more years since we discovered your channel. Our hips, knees, and ankles have never been healthier.

Pas de cheval without the barre was so humbling 😂

I was shaking so hard towards the end haha. This was amazing. Thank you!
I love your videos they have helped me a lot, I can't wait to do it after school 😘
I’m in full time training- and that was HARD.
Yess a new beginner barre! I've been doing your last beginner bar everyday for the past two weeks :)
Please keep doing this kind of videos. I just love them!!
Wonderful class Katryn. I love the Barre . Thanks a lot.
Thank you!
52 years of age beginning here. thank you.
I can only go to two ballet classes a week and one lyrical. I do your videos at home, but is that enough? I do want to dance professionally eventually
I am sweating like crazy!! Did this class on pointe and it was absolutely perfect!! Thank you!! 💖
I feel like I saw you last night after my dance class at the Covington Regional Ballet! We walked out of the studio to leave and I saw someone who looked just like you!

Did this after a full day of dancing street, jazz and ballet (doing a performing arts degree) and it really centered me after a long day of technique and choreo! Thanks and lots of love from a dane in Sweden
I'm so happy to see this! Cannot wait to try this barre.
Me too! 😊
Loved this so much, could literally feel my balance beginning to improve. Thank you Katie, your classes are my favorite.
GOODNIGHT am I glad I didn't try the advanced one first. I got through 20 minutes. Per tradition, this 50 year old will get there eventually! This one is hard but also SO VERY FUN. Thank you, again, My Dear!

so excited to try this!
This is so tough! But I mean that in the best way. I’m a pole dancer. I have a lot of upper body strength.......but this KILLED my legs 😂👏👏👏💪🏽
I have done this barre at least 15 times at this point, it's challenging and fun no matter how many times I do it. This is getting me through lockdown :)
Just what I was looking for!
I did the whole thing without barre and it burned so good!! 🤩Thank you for another amazing workout and your encouraging words!!😊😊
EXCELLENT.. Comes under my titles of GRUNT BARRE !!!! A little above Adult Beginner though.

I think I finally understand what "over the standing hip" means...
Just getting back, so NOT stretched out, no turnout, but already I feel a difference. Great class! Yes, it's hard, but good! Thanks!
The first few exercises were like “oh this is nice! I’m really getting a better position!”
The others were more like “GOD JUST TAKE ME NOW” 😂
I know beauty and the beast WHENEVER I HEAR IT!! 🥰🥰🥰 it’s not my favorite Disney princess movie but wow the music is so iconic and forever amazing

This is where we live students smile and say “Yep, we got this.” Our work with you over the last few months is paying off so much!!!
I love, how every time after I screwed up completely, there is: "Do not judge", and when I'm giving up: "Do not give up". Like Kathryn actually can see me))) My feet hurt, but I finished it and will do it again!
Thank you so much. Your encouraging comments help a lot: "Keep on fighting". "I am strugging, too".
10 year background in dance, specifically ballet. Been out of the studio for several years. This was so hard LOL ready for more 🩰
I loved this so much! As an adult ballet student whose dance history contained very little ballet (mostly jazz and musical theatre/character styles), I appriciate these beginner/simple technique videos (with and without explaination) SO MUCH! There's so much detail but done is a clear and concise way! Also, do you have spyware? Becuase the first time you said, "Don't judge; just let it happen." I was judging myself SO hard! Thank you again!
I'm a beginner ! Sticking to this barre to keep in shape during summer before classes start again 💪💪💪💪
