Barkov is an exceptional player and deserves his flowers, but I find it funny that the dialogue is so focused around "How will Connor McDavid handle Barkov" and not "How will Barkov handle Connor McDavid, the best player in the world and playoff point leader." We've heard every round some player or combination of players who were going to be a challenge for McDavid, yet here he is with an 11 point lead on the next non-Oiler. Yes, Barkov will make things more difficult for McDavid, but that's what he deals with night in night out. Going up against the opposing teams best defensive players is just another day in the office for McDavid.

As much as Barkov deserves respect and will be a very tough matchup I think the series will largely hinge on Skinner. Ekholm filled the biggest hole the Oilers had at the time; Hyman a great free agent signing; but getting 2 throw aways for minimum contract (in first year) was not only a huge gamble but a great payoff, in large part to somehow helping Kane not sabotage himself. And what about the Foegele trade for a guy that is coming out of NHLPA program on an expiring contract with his 3rd team since the Oilers and is a good bet to not get another contract.

The problem is the plus/minus is considerably worse than Panthers. Nurse -13, Desharnais -8, Foegele -8. I assume the coach did not play Foegele and Desharnais for this reason. Oilers would have lost if Desharnais, Foegele were in the lineup. Hopefully Nurse is just going through a spell or injuries. Derek Ryan should be replaced by Sam Carrick. Derek Ryan is -6. That's about all that can be done. I like the idea of Dylan Holloway on the 2nd line with Draisaitl and Kane. McLeod is -4. That's about all you can do. Even still, the numbers are so bad for Oilers plus minus I don't see how Oilers can win.

He's currently the best two way center in the world. He will give a challenge. He doesn't need to shut down McDavid. Just slow down a bit. Florida has three good lines who all can score. Anyway, this is a very interesting matchup and for me the most interesting finals in years. And after all, I'm happy who ever wins it. Refs don’t wanna lose their job
They and DPS and the situation room all answer to Colin Campbell whose son that he’s consistently pulled strings for happens to be with the Panthers right now
There’s a reason Sam Bennett has gotten no supplemental discipline for concussing Knies Slavin and Marchand the past two playoffs with deliberate attempts to injure
It’s a sun belt team vs a Canadian team. Interference from Bettman and/or the Campbells is to be expected.

Barkov wont stop McDavid, make it hard for him to score, yeah maybe. The problem for Florida is making sure the rest of the team doesnt score. Stop the depth, and easy win for either team. Edm doesnt get past Dallas if the depth of Brown/Janmark/Henrique/McLeod/Broberg with 5 goals combined that series dont score those goals. Dallas supposed depth didnt show up, reason they out.

Power play is a different story. There McDavid has room to operate and Drisaitl can score on his passes.

Some writer for the Miami Herald. Clearly it was a click bait headline to grab attention & readers for his column. I wouldn't put much stock in some hack writer from Florida who obviously hasn't much experience or exposure in hockey. Kind of like that hockey vlogger who tried to diminish & slag Zach Hyman's accomplishments as a hockey player saying or implying Zach's rich parents were responsible for his on ice hard work & talent.
