It's tilt-shift photography, a style that makes things look miniature. I've never seen it done with video but for still shots it's been out for a while now.
The buildings aren't fake. The reason the shadow doesn't move is because the time compression is minimal. If you watch the traffic during the pan the time covers about three stoplights, or roughly 10 minutes compressed down into 30 seconds. Shadows would not move appreciably in that amount of time.

This is one of the best tilt-shift videos I've seen, and the music from vividblaze makes it a complete emotional portrait.
I don't have the full-frame advantage but I hope to do some interesting tilt-shift photography of my own with the newly released 17mm.
it IS a miniature city, just so awesomely made that you don't notice it.
This video is absolutely beautiful and the music i feel matches the mood of the video. i'm not a video whiz but i liked the way the camera angles gave it the feeling of watching a tiny city as per the title.

it's a photography technique that makes big things look like miniatures. i can't remember exactly, but i think it has to do with field of view.
I really thought it were a model toy town, the immense detail of the foot patrol and vehicles had me thinking otherwise... This comes in second place next to sliced bread o)

@Mmaesstrro It's called "Tilt Shift". A special lens is required. If you just want to make a still image appear this way, it can be done in photoshop easily.

this vid is made by a TILT SHIFT EFFECT. google it some camera tricks with lenses to make things blurry but the centre focus to give that miniture effect.

The video is called miniature city because it gives us the illusion of miniature. It kinda reminds me how small we actually are

Yeah, it's real. It's entirely a focus/blurring trick -- no messing with perspective. Also they increase the saturation a bit.

GREAAAAT I love that, I knew this effect with pictures but it's the first time I see in videos :D
he takes a photo every few seconds using a tilt shift lens. he doesn't make a minature model of a city. he just uses the tilt shift to make it seem it is small by bluring the top and the bottom.
For maximum effect best to see this kind of thing in plain old real time. "The Sandpit" is significantly slower and much more enjoyable.
This song suits the video very well.
It's a post processing technique that makes it look like a scale model.
