Its a concept record, grandma is a character in the story which was in the asylum for "murdering her husband with an axe taking his head off" this song is welcoming her back home from a "Vaction" described by her daughter that has her two children with her. The demons in the house are thrilled to have visitors hence "can you feel thier eyes" . And the story goes on. this is the only metal song that grandma is allowed 🤣 good old horror witch grandma.

If you got scared listening to King diamond, Is because he did a really good job with His music, His videos and the art of the disc covers.

Thing with KD is that almost all of his records are conceptual horror stories, like a play or a movie, you should listen the whole thing to get what the lyrics are meant to. One song is just one scene🤟

With two exceptions all of the King Diamond albums are full concept stories. This song is taken from the album ”Them”, its successor ”Conspiracy” ends the story. King is Stephen King of (horror) metal. Please, check out his other band Mercyful Fate as well.

The song is from the concept album "Them", in which every song is s chapter of the same horror story, about a kid (King himself) and his grandmother.
This is the first chapter, where Grandma comes home from the asylum.

I remember going to TOWER RECORDS and buying THEM after seeing this video on the HEADBANGER'S BALL! Never heard of KD before but this song just kicked my ass. I also got IRON MAIDEN - SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON and HELLOWEEN - KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS II that day as well. The cashier looked at my items and said BAD ASS! Hell yeah it was! Still a metalhead to this day \m/

This song is very easy to understand, watch the live version, obviously preferable to studio due to its environment. Check out Grim Reaper - See you in hell, also Speticflesh - vampire from Nazareth live

If you've seen a little comedy film called Clerks 2 then you have heard renditions of King Diamond.
    ie, the drive-through scene.

A classic King tune! Their albums are based on a story, often scary ones! This classic lineup includes Mikkey Dee on drums! Wonderful reactions, haha!

So the deal with King Diamond is that all of their albums are concept albums that tell a story. It makes for some goofy lyrics sometimes but it's trying to be fun macabre theatrical horror, not serious. KD is like a strange dorky blend between 80's power metal and gothic opera.
For example ***SPOILERS*** I guess if you can spoil albums. This album is told from both the point of view of a young child named King and the point of view of the demon(s) named Amon that inhabit an old Victorian house. His Grandma is coming to live with him, his mother, and his slightly older sister after being discharged from an asylum, though the children don't know that. Turns out, Grandma's not crazy but she's a vessel for demons that inhabit the house and now that she's back the demons have power again. Grandma and the demons end up putting the mom in a trance (or possibly drugging her) and brainwashing King to become the next keeper of the house and Grandma's future replacement using a blood-tea ceremony and the mom's blood. Missy, his sister, discovers this and angrily smashes the teapot, prompting Grandma to attack her. Missy takes King and tries to escape the house but now the demons are powerful enough to attack the children directly. They kill Missy but King escapes the house. He comes out from his trance for a moment and instead of running away decides he needs to go back in and kill Grandma after seeing that they are burning Missy's body in the fireplace. He goes back in the house and pretends he is still under the houses' control. After being questioned why he left the house he eventually gains Grandma's trust enough to convince her to come outside and bathe in the moonlight with him. Once outside the reach of the demons in the house he kills her by biting her on the throat and then runs into the woods and passes out. When the police find him and investigate he's charged with the crimes and sent to an insane asylum. Since he was touched by the evil of the house They (the demons) still haunt him in his dreams and he can still hear Them in the night. Later as an adult he is released into society and at the end of the album he gets a phone call from his dead Grandma who tells him he should come back to the house because his sister, mother, and lots of people are waiting for him.
There's a sequel album but it's not as good. Them is a classic. If I ever had enough spare money it would be a fun thing to make a kind of rock-opera short film for King Diamond's Them and Abigail albums.

Love King Diamond but tool would've definitely been more influenced by King Crimson.

This song ironically got me into King, but I always feel there's literally 50+ better songs to listen to, even of this same album like Tea or Twilight Symphony. I feel like the best song of his is Charon, the concept of this song would have been great because it's contained on one song this is part of an entire concept album so you can't get it with the one song
