I have a piece just like this. Vintage from family. I would not change it . Guest always remark about how beautiful it is. But that’s just my feelings. I hope you enjoy your new finished piece. TFS
I bought one just like this at our Habitat store over a year ago. I just started painting it, but then got a 12 drawer dresser, nightstand and mirror to finish for a customer. Thanks for sharing your client invoice example with me. It was a big help. I can't wait to get back to my secretary. I'm keeping it too! Happy Birthday.
I really like what you did. It was a copy of an antique rather than a real antique so fair game in my book. Plus better to be improved and used than original and forgotten. Good job! 😊
I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about what you added and what you took away. This piece looks so fresh and will be used and loved because you made it suit your taste and needs. 😊
So happy to see the removal of the crown, This is what I'll be doing w. A hutch I recently obtained. You just gave me the nod I am in the right direction.
I love this! I have had the honor of carting my mother's hutch for years. I was glad to have the legacy left to me....but it was never my taste. I am about to paint it....generations to come may strip it and stain it back. But I won't be there to see. It is your home, you get to decorate it any way you want. I think you did a great job.❤
I have the same secretary, inherited, but too formal for my taste. I was attempting to sell it, but now after watching what you did, I want to paint it too. Thank you for the inspiration.
I think it looks so much better without the pieces over the glass. That was a good call. It still looks vintage on the bottom and yet modernized on the top. Nice job.
I have 2 of them and want to make them unique as they no longer suit my decor. There are so many of these desks in thrift stores etc and no one wants them. . it’s so sad. I am glad you rescued one and gave it a home and finished into a beautiful piece. Very inspiring!
My parents have that exact desk and it is a bit overwhelming with all the details and dark color. What you did makes it look clean and sweet. Good job.
So glad I purchased the furniture class for $19. I spent the extra $10 so I would have unlimited access. On second of five modules and have learned quite a bit. Thank you Christina!
Stunning transformation! I wish I had known these techniques before practically giving away all my older red-stained (but beautiful) furniture a few years ago! Happy Birthday to YOU, too!
Oh! My goodness I bought a secretary desk similar to yours & a matching dinning table I bought it 2 years ago& didn't know how to paint it. It was all $100 from a estate sale The peices had been imported from France. Thank you! For your video
Happy Birthday, Christina! Thank you for the content and entertainment you bring us all every week! I hope you get to take some time and enjoy your birthday 🥳🥳
I have this exact piece - it was my grandmother's. You have inspired me to make this fit to my taste and not feel guilty about changing it. Yours is beautiful.
@@renipol Well said Rayna. I cannot understand why people want to paint over the original wood and take away the natural beauty of the piece of furniture in the first place.
This is the exact hutch I have that I got from my grandmother when she passed away. I was thinking of selling it because it just doesn’t fit with my decor...but wow!! If I can do all the work, it will definitely fit right in. Thanks for this video!!
Happy birthday Christina! Today I watched this while drinking my coffee and it’s so satisfying to watch you paint! You make it look easy. Painting furniture is a time consuming process and while I love my finished pieces, The entire time while working on them Im like “Christina help!” 😂. I am a RN so when I’m not at work, painting furniture is my form of self care. Thank You for inspiring me! 🥰
Happy birthday Christina ! I am new to this channel however, I landed an identical secretary desk ( Habitat in Chicago) someone painted black ( I did research ...the way my drawers were built... it dates back to the 1850’s). Yes, I could see that this piece is a replica ( great job).
I love it!!! I have the exactly same piece. it is so much darker then yours. i have wanted to change it for year ,but my husband doesn't. Now i can show him what it could look like---Thank you
I know these were mass-produced. I just rescued one from the bulk trash area at an apartment. It even had the skeleton key with a pretty tassel to keep it from getting lost. The bones on these are great! Nice heavy piece. Ballard designs has a knockoff version closer to your makeover in robin egg blue for over 3k. Yours turned out lovely and way better than 3.5K.
Happy Birthday Christina from a fellow Lady Libra! I turned 50 on the 1st. Love your videos especially how you explain everything fully. Painted my hutch grey with whitewash and removed the glass as well after seeing your follow up interior video on your hutch. Mine turned out great thanks to you. I also painted a small pine hallway table from William Sonoma. I am now looking everywhere for more furniture to paint. I think I am addicted!
Happy Happy Birthday. Your piece looks amazing. You do what is what you like. I have one I purchased many years ago, 20-25 years ago. I love mine in a cherry finish but that is what I like. Have a great vacation and enjoy your time away. 😊🎂🎈🎈🎈
Happy 40th Birthday, Christina! I really love the look of the hutch and in my favourite shade of green too! Enjoy your holiday! Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
🏖Hi from France! Happy birthday! 🎂🍾 My mother's one is on the 4th and mine on the 5th october like my best friend too... That is a lot of candles!...🙂Anyway... Patience and dexterity and the result is still stunning! Bravo.👍 Thanks for the sharing. Arnaud⛵
My parents had a secretary just exactly like yours. How I would have love to find one. I would keep it original, your makeover looked great. Great video!
I have one that is up for sale, $100. i live in Palm Springs, in case you’re in the same area? After watching this video, probably will paint it too, that is if you don’t want it?
@@rkeller8141 I would love to have it but I live in NC. Just a little to far for me to drive! lol! I have so many fond memories of playing at my parents secretary! Have a great day!
This turned out great! I just used Fusion for the first time last week. I loved it. Great stuff. And happy birthday! Talk about it all you want. It's your day. Looking forward to the next video.
I’ve read through the comments and I saw a lot of people that didn’t like this .... but I have to say I love it!!!!!! You turned an old piece of furniture into a modem looking piece that I would love on my home. Some people like the old looking furniture and decorate their houses that way and to each their own but I personally don’t like that look. I love the more modern feel of it. Great job!!!! ❤️❤️
I’ve needed some inspiration so thank you for this! I have several cherry wood furniture pieces that I don’t want to get rid of but they are so dark and depressing to me now. It’s a ton of work but watching you makes me feel like it’s doable 👍🏽
Happy Birthday Christina......Gorgeous work as always. I love how you restore pieces and give them a new life!! I will check out your course.....you truly inspire me to be creative and push myself to try new things!! Have a wonderful Birthday enjoy celebrating wonderful you!!😊🙂🍁🌻🍃👍
I just saw this exact same piece in my hometown! I love what you did with it!If the seller didn’t want so much for it I’d snag it and copy yours exactly! ❤️
Happy Belated Birthday! You definitely don’t look forty! Oh my goodness your Secretary came out gorgeous! I’m don’t know what I’m giving myself next month for my 60th Birthday, But I’m sure l’ll love! 😂🤣
Happy birthday! And congrats on creating your course. I always learn great stuff from your channel. Excited to see how you repaired the foot. I have never tried that because it seemed so hard! You really made this piece look BRAND NEW.
I also bought one of these secretary cabinets (for the same price) and I'm still working on it. I always wanted one and now, it's been a year and I'm still not finished. Trivia about that fretwork you pulled off: If you counted the panes, they add up to 13 to represent the 13 colonies. As you stated, these cabinets are 1950s reproductions of the original ones made by New England cabinetmakers during Revolutionary times who sought to show their loyalty. P.S. I kept mine ... and I still love yours!
I have that secretary in my home, my father bought it for my grandma in 1946. My drawers are not wavy and through years lost the finnial on top. My family would not allow me to paint it so I keep it wiped down. Many memories with grandma at that desk. Thanks for memories. Looks beautiful with redo.🙂
The reason for the primer bleed through is you were going over original shellac finish. Glad you're happy with the results. As an antique restorer it just makes me sad.
I have a piece just like this. Vintage from family. I would not change it . Guest always remark about how beautiful it is. But that’s just my feelings. I hope you enjoy your new finished piece. TFS
You do amazing work! It's yours..you bought it! Do whatever you want to it!!
No No.....This One You Restore....Beautiful Secretary
It was.
@@maylast8352it was ruined.
The top had so much character... It was a beautiful piece BEFORE... It simply needed to be restored.
It didn't even look like it need much repair. Heart breaking.

This color is just beeeeeaautiful. Green speaks of "life!", But these more muted shades speak of peace and calm. A great mix.
I love it. Taking the wood off of the windows made a beautiful difference
I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about what you added and what you took away. This piece looks so fresh and will be used and loved because you made it suit your taste and needs. 😊

It's so light and airy and modern! Gorgeous. Looks great!

Beautiful result! i like that you took off the inlay and the top. Looks so much better.....modern and classy.
Don't sweat 40, I've been watching you for a few years and you look great better than ever, whatever your doing, stick with it.
Wow what a transformation. Love that color. Congratulations Christina!

I would paint stuff all the time, but as I got older I regret some .It does look beautiful though.

Isn't it better to give it to someone who would appreciate it and not to ruin something like this? Buy another one simpler and do what you what to do.

You are so welcome!
i love it! I just can't get over how the glass didn't break when removing the inlay!
It's so light now. I love it! It had such a heavy feel before.
I just got this green and did a piece for my bathroom. I love it.
