you’ve been asking us FOR THREE YEARS to make a video about what the best camera for a beginner is, and we’ve finally committed to a specific model. working on it today. it’ll be posted soon 👀
0:06 Switch to Manual mode (the M) 0:40 Exposure triangle (screenshot it) 0:45 ISO 1:47 SHUTTER SPEED 2:41 APERTURE 4:18 Metering for light 5:46 Putting this all in practice 6:35 Examples (F8 important) 7:32 Shutter examples (your not an idiot) 8:07 combining concepts 10:12 screen shot this!
A great tip for all beginners: When you buy a new DSLR, buy BODY ONLY and rather invest in a prime lens (50mm 1.8G is very reasonable and versatile) but only opt for 24/35mm for crop sensors as the focal length will be 1.6x what you see. You will learn more about photography with a prime lens in one year than with a kit lens in two. Also since there is no optical zoom in prime lenses, so just use your legs. 😀
I loved shooting in manual mode for a long time but now I shoot in aperture priority 75% of the time. Its best for everyone to start here then learn the other modes. Great video
I've been shooting for years, but these kinds of videos are incredible as a resource for helping teach other people how to take awesome photos. Keep up the good work!
of all the youtube tutorials i watched over the years on manual mode, this is, by far, the one video that made the most sense to me! i'm excited to start shooting now!
I have watched alot of video's on "How to shoot Manual" But this as matter of fact was the best and informative of em all love you guys keep up the good work ✌🏼
I searched so many videos abt the photography and photo editing this is one of best channel i seen so far, which recommended to so many frds. and ur videos are quite strait n simple , love it ......❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Btw it would be really cool if u guys can make a vid covering the basic settings and stuff for video for a mirrorless camera , cause I got one recently and man I am struggling
after years of watching your videos I finally have a (borrowed) camera! I'm going to try and take some photos this weekend - yay! I've already done your skillshare course, so hopefully, it will be easy to plan and execute my ideas.
This is very helpful. I've watched few videos like this but you guys explained everything so well. You made "manual mode" not as intimidating as it sound for beginners.
Even as someone who has the 1-year experience, I sometimes come back to videos like this, just for a quick refresh, as long tiring days sometimes just saps my memory. Can you guys do another video where you plan a shoot from start to finish, just a quick update would be nice, especially one for commercial work
Absolutely incredible video! I have already rewatched it a couple times. I am getting RUclips Premium this is one of the videos I would rewatch when I want a quick refresher. Sometimes when I'm out shooting I forget things and wow this explained some things that I think about like when to adjust which setting on the exposure triangle. As for mode I always shoot Manual but it would be cool to see videos like this to explain Aperture and Shutter priority as well
I appreciate this and you!! Despite watching other tutorials, I kept struggling with manual mode and ended up giving it a break. Now I'm gonna try again!
A tip for everyone, new or veteran photographers. I have been taking photos for 8 years now. I began with a Sony Xperia L and moved on to a Canon 80D 4 years ago. Ok so, no matter how long you have known this. It's always good to go back to basics. Most of the time we miss the smallest details because we forget our foundation. So it's good to always to go BACK TO BASIC
I like sleeping in and I have chosen to stay subscribed. I also liked the video. What can I say? Rules are meant to be broken. Always so good at taking ideas and condensing them into interesting, helpful videos. Great work!
Ive only had a camera for 10 days and ive barely used the other modes. id rather just struggle with manual for now, and im not really struggling its just slower lol. also insane the timing of this. I thought this was an old video
Was an enthusiastic film amateur before digital took over. Life interrupted. My only digitals have been point-and-shoot or phone. Any suggestions where can learn more about ISO as it relates to digital? Also, I remember looking at early 10 megapixel cameras, But the color reproduction of the various Sensors seem to vary dramatically. Is that still true, all I see (on Utube) is discussion of features.
Just for the record, I like sleeping in (although We Will Become Silhouettes is my real Postal Service jam), but I was already subscribed so I can live my truth.
First, really nice explanation. It's just missing the aperture priority mode which is semi manual. At least for sony you have the ability to set a min shutter speed when reached it will start increase ISO. That's basically what you would do in manual mode. Manual mode is not very practical let's say in golden hours where the light condition is changing very fast. And if you want to intentionally shoot over or under exposed you can still do it with exposure compensation dial. I only shoot manual mode in indoor with strobes and light meter. Keep the good work
I’m constantly chasing my subject(s) with the focal point and missing moments. Is that normal to do or are there any tips on what to change on my camera
Photography is a lot like learning to swim. You can learn all you want but you won’t know how to really do it yourself till you jump in and start splashing around.
When looking through the viewfinder on my film camera it has a light meter and an light to indicate if I should be using a higher or lower shutter speed. Is there something like this on canon digital DSLRs , there must be surely ?
@@MangoStreet 🙃 Yeah… You meant "fractional" but did not say it out loud. When I was a beginner, such a statement would have confused me a ton! I'm clarifying things for all the ambitious beginners out there. 😁

I just wanna say that I have been shooting on a canon T1i because I can’t afford anything else AND I love it.

Awesome explanation! Super easy to understand!
Great and easy to understand Manual Mode video! I normally shoot Manual indoors and Aperture Priority outdoors,,,it works for me!

Nicely done. I enjoyed your teaching style reinforced by actually demonstrating the techniques versus just talking about them Thank you
you guys were more serious in this video than usual, still super helpful!
we shot this on friday. we hadn’t slept all week and the world was ending outside of our apartment 😅
Great video! Makes shooting in manual feel less intimidating

yes, just the standard light meter, but it's not shutter speed specific.

Guys, how can you be saying this?
The shutter speed DECREASES for a sharper image!
if the speed is slower, it will capture more movement in the frame (and to the camera itself), thus making it less sharp.
@@MangoStreet Exactly. When the speed is slower, its value increases.
E.g. 1/250 sec < 2 sec.
i think we're both saying the same thing and the confusion arose out of the fractional shutter speed. sorry if that was unclear.
@@MangoStreet 🙃 Yeah… You meant "fractional" but did not say it out loud. When I was a beginner, such a statement would have confused me a ton! I'm clarifying things for all the ambitious beginners out there. 😁
