So you’ve experienced the hilleberg windchimes ray 😂 wrap some electrical tape around them or get some shrink wrap. Don’t let that put you off a soulo. I’d be happy never to use another tent again. And I’ve got a few 😂. What a lovely pitch you got too. I just received my x6 delta pegs last week so I’m good to go in a few weeks once the wife’s birthday weekends done and then my sons. Happy hiking 👍🏻
Nice video Ray. I’ve been using a Soulo for a long time alongside other tents. My advice is to ignore the ‘not so good’ reviews. For me it is the single finest four season solo tent.
3rd its a cracking tent, unless it's raining or snowing or blowing a gale it's easy enough to keep the door rolled down for airflow. I use a plastic close peg with some soft tape around each clasp. Roll door down to desired gap, and use close peg, bobs yer auntie. 👍
If you're going to get caught out on the tops on a freezing, windy winter night, you might as well have one of the best tents out there.. 👍.. Thanks for sharing Ray.. Hope summer is good to you. ⛺
Great video Ray... Been using the Soulo for everything for the last few years, great tent. Was up Beinn an Dothaidh climbing that Friday, weather was fantastic shame about Saturday, big thaw on the way. Great to see you on the hill's again. ATP Jim.
Great video, but oh no, oh yes Ray has crossed over. I expected your torch light sabre to be casting a red beam by the morning. I pray to the camping God's you don't like it, I can't bear the thought of all of those Soulo owners nodding smugly. I didn't wish you a rough night Ray but it was a good start!
Good to see you out and about. I love my Soulo. I always try and pitch away from high condensation areas... If i do I try and put something under the wind side to lift it so airflow is better. Its amazing just how little airflow you need to keep the inside dry. I am left handed and it is one of the main reasons I love it. Every tent has pros and cons. I predominantly use the Soulo as it covers all aspects of the Highland weather. However I do like the Durston X-Mid 2 Solid See how it goes this year... Cheers
Ireland needs a skii lift .. big time . Great video , thanks for the review of the tent . . All seems a bit precarious to go up to the top of a hill and get buffeted around. I'm not sure if it's something I would ever do . The chances of becoming a flying balloon are too great to feel responsible. But I'm guessing if I had a ski lift I would prob try it out for the craic . Who knows , flying might be a quicker way off the mountain . Stay safe lads .
Always look forward to your videos, very surprised with the soulo😮we can only but try with tents just like marmite? Look forward to your reviews at least there will be truthful.
Nice one Ray, Glencoe was stunning on Friday, i was across the road on a day hike with dogs over Beinn a'Chrulaiste . The Soulo is a brilliant tent , i've a few tents but thats the only one i wouldn't sell on . Good stuff ..cheers Stevie
Definitely a cold and blustery 1the tent looked great personally they just look a bit small.i think there's a lot of jealousy with hillebergs simply because of the price I've just got the niak and can't wait to get out in it when the weather gets better.
Hope you have some great times with your Niak. Will say that it wasn't too bad compared to some tents I have had and was actually a bit surprised how much space I had. Atb
That’s a great way to summit , look forward on your thoughts over the coming weeks re the soulo . Bit of a wild night , did the zippers rattle you awake, I put ring sizers on my Akto zips and that sorted that . Then I sold it 😂
Great stuff Ray - but holy moley....turning to the dark side!! Be interesting to see how you bond with your Soulo in the coming months :) Great camp and stunning snowy scenes, especially with the tents lit up in the dark. Hope it wasn't anything too serious with the MR helicopter. TFS :)
Ha Ha, did see your thoughts on the tent, lol. As an outdoor and wild camping channel had to take the plunge and try one after many, many years of resisting the urge. Lets see how long it stays in the gear shed ;) Atb
Really enjoyed the video. Very well filmed, nice presentation and fantastic scenery to boot! As someone who watches quite a lot of wild camping videos one of the things I really like seeing is the food/drink bits of the video (an important part of any camp!). Best wishes, and I look forward to your next adventure out with the camera. Alistair.
Interesting, I'll probably never own a tent so expensive, but it'll be good to see just how well they perform. Even more so alongside the Hexpeak should you ever wish to compare the two. I definitely find that the weather always seems a lot worse than it is when exposed (on a mountain / in bad weather) - I reckon it's the natural response to being 'compromised'. I got one of they wee anenometers as well and testing it along the coast has certainly opened my eyes; however, sometimes it's better not knowing as it adds to the overall experience of being at the whim of Mother Nature! :D Lastly, you were bang on about 'Glorious Glencoe' - what a place!!
Great video 👍🏻 I have the soulo. Love it for the fact I feel safe in it in all weathers. Only downside is it’s noisy in the wind and condensation builds up quickly even when vented properly. But brilliant tent ⛺️
Another great vid. Thanks. I was inspired to do the WHW after watching your channel. I had a Soulo and eventually moved it on. Always found it was much better suited to windy and/ or freezing conditions which helped to reduce condensation dripping off the the inside of the fly and showering me with misty droplets inside. On balance, Prefer the Akto. Interested to see how it suits you. All the best.
Loved it, couldn’t believe you splashed out on a Hille…. It had to happen eventually, have you been victim to a bodysnatcher or proved by aliens ? You have turned to the dark side hahahaha, hope you enjoy the tent Ray, be good to see how you get on with it 👍 Oh, you’ll get used to the “thunder in the distance” sound with the material in the wind, very steely 💪
Really enjoyed this, thanks very much. I’m coming over from Belfast in early March 2024 and I’d like an alternative to Ben Nevis this time. Can I ask where you camped and what mountain you where on? Did you take the chair lift up from Glencoe? Thanks Phil
Yes it is st the Glencoe ski centre. I took the chairlift up to the first stations top and walked up hill just up on right, Creag Dubh. Takes may 20 mins from the chairlift.
The dark side 🤣🤣 nice vid ray, be interesting what u think of the soulo, it's been a mixed bag with that tent, I got the MLD duomid, how would u fair with it in the winter and high winds? I've had it out in 50mph winds and did me proud but havnt had it in proper snow yet ,thanks nick 👍
Class video Ray. Do I spy a Vango UL Helium tent? I have one and while I like it; I would not rate it the sturdiest 4 season tent in the world ha, any idea how it held up?
It is the Speedster stove and I have the wind shield specific to the Alpkit 600 titanium mug. Using that setup at the moment as my gas stove is broken, but to be honest starting to enjoy using the Meths fuel setup more. speedsterstoves.co.uk/
Sorry Ray, but I hate that scrambled egg meal from Expedition Foods. I think it is very sweet and sickly, and the amount of water they tell you to add is too much. Still, each to his own.

Thanks for coming Ray, good to see you and great to have some experienced company in case it went Pete Tong :-)
Who was the experienced company with us 😂 Atb.
Fantastic tent, the poles didn’t even flex. It’s great to feel secure when it’s wild outside.
Looked a good trip, nice to get some snow👍❄️🏕🏴👌

Brilliant - again. Probably my favourite channel on RUclips

Had a soulo but now just have an akto, double pole'ed with 2x10mm poles, bombproof. The quicker you setup/takedown the tent, the less time you freeze.
