I had the same diagnosis in 2011. I was given six weeks to live. I'm 73 now. Don't give up.
what did you do to change?
I was a fully blown alcoholic for years, drinking all day and every day upwards of a litre of whiskey daily. I almost got to this point at only 37 years old and I have been through what you described with the DTs numerous times. Fortunately, I got help and have been sober for 2 and a half years. All the best to you brother, glad you're still with us.

You may not see it, but you got out early compared to many others. A liter of whisky a day is definitely bad, but there's a good chance your liver and brain didn't suffer any permanent damage. My father used to drink a forty every single day, and then he would often go out and get drunk on his days off.

I am a psychotherapist who worked in addictions for 25 years---don't give up people do recover even from deaths door and go on and live. I have seen this many many times. Miracles happen more than most of us know. Praying for your full recovery, glad you are here!!
I'm a former addict. I'm hospital now. I'm at the end. Thank you. Please continue to help them. We used to mask the brokenness on the inside. Unfortunately our addiction hurts people that love us. We are just broken little kids on the inside that are lost and don't know what to do and we don't know how to live in this world so we use. Nothing negative you ever say to an addict will have any significance at all. I hate myself and I have said more vile things to myself on a daily basis than someone could even comprehend.
I love you and thank you sincerely for devoting your life to helping people who can't help themselves. You were helping them before it was so socially acceptable like it is now. Thank you.

Hello: I am a nafl cirrhosis person. 74 next month. Stage 4 decompensated. Diagnosed 3-23, but had symptoms since 21, though ni Doc's put it together. It is a lonely disease! Thanks for a place to listen and share! 😊 Too old for transplant consideration, and my doc's are sort of ho-hum!! We keep on keeping on. ❤

My uncle died for this. He was a heavy drinker for 20+ years. One day his leg swelled up huge, he went to the hospital. The doctor said the obvious that his liver was severely damaged, and that he needed to stop drinking immediately. He was unable to stop altogether but did switch to beer as opposed to whiskey. Two weeks later, he ended up back in the hospital this time with both legs swollen. This time he was unable to leave the hospital, so therefore he could not drink any more alcohol. Because he went from drinking so much to no alcohol at all, he had a massive heart attack. The doctors were able to revive him, but he was brain dead. RIP uncle Paul you are gone, you are missed, you are not forgotten.
Did the doctors give him diazepam to help prevent extreme alcohol withdrawal? So sorry for your loss

@@nicolerose7639 I’m not sure what the doctors did or didn’t give him. This happened 14 years ago and I had moved out of state about a month before. I’m going on memory of what I was told from family. I do know that it was quick, about a week.
My condolences. I have two nephews and stopped drinking alcohol six weeks ago because of different brain physiology.
Why didn't they give him IV benzos to stop sudden withdrawal?
After about 40 years of drinking I decided to quit cold turkey as it was overtaking my life it’s been 4 months now and what a tough time it’s been but I’m starting to get my memory back and feeling better every day

These types of videos always help me. I’m 39 years old and 11 months ago I decided enough was enough. I would drink daily. As soon as I stepped in the door from work before I could even take my coat off I had the bottle in hand. Eventually years of that started to take a toll on my body. I quit without the help of AA or any other support. Next month I’ll be 1 year sober and I’m soooo proud of myself. So glad these types of videos pop up. @@igot5onit423 I had and still have anxiety. i take meds for it but it was the alcohol that was causing the anxiety. It was pure hell. We think its making it better but its only making it worse
@@igot5onit423 my best friend died from heart failure about a year ago from alcohol and then I almost died the same way. I'm 9 months sober. It's a spiritual battle. It goes deeper than we know. The gospel is 1cor15:1-4 how that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. If you believe this the Holy Spirit entwines with your soul creating a new creature who is saved from hell and whose sin debt is paid in full by the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. You don't know if you'll be here tomorrow. Accept Jesus as Lord and Savior now so you'll be saved. Best thing I've ever done and I only wish I would have known sooner and changed sooner. @Betty Crocker Hi, I am an sober alcoholic since 2008. I drank for 24 years. I am glad that you are on the journey of sobriety, so many of us don't make it. I am just going to say this, AA and other support groups, main purpose is not to get you sober, but to introduce you to a higher power that can help keep you sober. And listening to others who share the affliction of being and living as an alcoholic. Because alcohol. is just the drug of choice, we use to suppress a day to day living problem. The key to staying sober is to change how we deal with life, not just that we don't pick up another drink. Because regardless of whether or not we drink, we still have to work on the real reason we drank in the first place or nothing changes
@@igot5onit423 It has nothing to do with will power, and "Staying" sober is the challenge. Not very likely if we don't fix the life problem, that leads us to use this drug to compensate, in the first place. In other words, alcohol is the symptom of a much deeper problem. Work on that, and your anxiety will probably get better.
I discovered I have cirrhosis while diagnosed with ampullary tumour. Long story short. Mine was caused by morbid obesity. Changed my life , cancer free and liver ticking along nicely. Feel very blessed. Sending kindness and hope your way.

Shes not dead..and you can live a long time if your liver is still healthy enough to function and you take care of yourself.. sure it gets worse... but as we age everything can go at anytime. So Ya being alive not having acites and yellow on hospice...id say yes her liver is TICKING nicely.

Just remember, there will come a time when you WILL STOP drinking. When your body and liver gives out, your drinking days are DONE. Why not stop now, on your own terms. YOU be the one to decide when your drinking days are done

Very best of luck to you. I had a 20 year run, with all the misery that comes with the end of it (including flatlining). And then the god awful process of digging out of the hole - luckily the material wreckage was largely confined to me, but there were some trying times. Today, however marks nearly 20 years free, physically there's no trace, and I've successfully rebuilt. Never look back.
So that would make you the first person in history to magically cure cirrhosis without a liver transplant. Once you get it its always going to be there.
Turned off my 51 year old sons life support 3 weeks ago. It was too late for him. The massive complications due to decompensated cirrhosis of the liver brought him to the end his suffering death; a horrible site no mother should have to experience. Hoping he's now resting in peace.

I got lucky. I had a "Come to Jesus " consultation with my doctor's office and they told me how close I was to your situation. I was looking at the pictures of my family, particularly my then six-month old daughter, and my life began to flash before my eyes and the thoughts of their future without me. I begged God for a second chance. I got it and never looked back. That was four years ago and I have not touched alcohol since. Just the thought of drinking makes shutter! I do have dreams from time to time where I fall off the wagon. They feel so terrifyingly real,and yet, I breathe a sigh of relief when I wake up and realize it was just a bad dream. This is scary sobering, as someone who struggles as well. Ive been watching Eric Berg for years and started doing what he said to do with Keto and aminoacids and the likes and ive been able to turn things around. Pray you come out of this free and clear and healthy!

@@handle1196 I was at the end stage. I've discussed in other videos how close I was to death. I was given a very short timeframe. For the first several months all I could eat was yogurt, fruit and protein shakes/drinks.

I was just confused as to whats classed as a recovery and also how people can be in hospital in their final end stages but then make a recovery enough to go back to some form of normal life.
My partners been there and now awaiting hospital appointments but has just been left for months without being able to see anyone due to waiting lists they claim

My brother Danny was a meth addict…. He unfortunately lost his life to his addiction….. however he donated his heart and liver. Both men are still alive today! Don’t give up ❤❤

I've been a heavy drinker for way too long and have been thinking about quitting for years. When I was younger, I never felt my insides. Now, after a heavy night of drinking I can feel my kidneys, liver and pancreas all hurting and inflamed. I woke up today saying it already to myself, but watching this video just helped me decide that today is the day to try at least to quit - here goes! Best of luck to you and thanks for the video

@@mimipacheco722 I'm on day 3 now - doing it, but getting horrible sleep and a little cranky lol. I had intentionally drank myself down to less and less for several days before I stopped/same day I happened to see this video, so I wouldn't feel too bad - I only had a 6 pack and no liquor the night before I stopped, which for me is hardly drinking at all. I was planning on stopping the other day and I guess I just started gravitating toward watching videos like this for some support. It's harder cuz one of my very best friend's mom just died 6 weeks ago who I loved, my girlfriend and I just broke up a month ago and my Dad is in the hospital and just got diagnosed w cancer after a months long battle w pneumonia and covid where we thought he was gonna die a lot of the time. Hospitalized 4 times since Thanksgiving - I've spent months in Philly by his bedside while I actually live in Sarasota, Fl w my girlfriend(ex). I was brutal to my health for the last 2 months w the booze - I hardly remember January at all - and I realized I'm not far from serious consequences if I don't pull the brake on my drinking as this has been going on for 20 years now. I'll be the next one in the hospital if I don't solve this. I owned a liquor store in Boulder, CO for 13 years and never had an alcohol problem before that, but when you're surrounded by booze, you own it all and you're the boss, when the problems started (which was immediately upon buying the place) so did the daily drinking - usually all day, 7 days/week. It's hard to retrain yourself after so much time, but I know I'm running out of time to make a change before change is thrust upon me. My saving grace has been that I eat super healthy with a strong leaning toward raw and vegan food - very nutrient dense diet so I'm sure that has mitigated some of the damage. A totally contradictory, dualistic approach to one's health for sure. Thanks for the support

I wish you the best. I know certain diets can help repair what is left and strengthen the liver. Everyone is different once again.
Unortunately I came in contact with a very rare and bad bacteria that was in my backyard that my dog brought in and she came down with symptoms of spots , She was easy to cure but unfortunately I didn't know and I lost Most of my teeth. I can't do anything so I don't know what's gonna happen.
End stage liver failure comes on so fast it’s frightening. I was seeing my gastro doctor once a month. I had cirrhosis but was told there are plenty of people who live perfectly normal lives with cirrhosis. He would do blood tests every month and about three days later his office would call saying my blood work was at least stable and they’d see me in a few weeks. All until one month not that far from my first month I got the call while at work and it was him. He gave me the number of a hepatalogist and said “I know you’re probably at work. Tell them you’ve got to leave. I’ve already made your appointment. You going now could be the difference of if you live or die”. That was one of quite a few scary sentences I’d hear over the next 10 months to a year.
It just turns on a dime. It's crazy! You're not alone. Keep fighting! 💚
@@fortressfarms82 I’m 4 years in with the new liver and feel great I’ve slowed down a bit but I’m on the right side of the dirt so I’m not complaining. But all of your stories really hit home for me. Once I stumbled onto your page I had to watch. It’s good I think to hear stories from others who have gone through things that I have. You keep up the fight as well. @@thepatternforms859 ahh here’s where doctors were screwing around with my life. I had all the blood work of someone who was drinking heavily even during hospital stays. I wasn’t drinking but doctors told me I had to be. Until one day my doctor walked in with a nurse and took another bike of blood. Thurber out I had hemochromatosis. And that disease was the reason for my blood work. How quickly the staff changed their opinion about me. And that was nice and all but it didn’t change my meld score or the fact that one of the many doctors told me it still was no time to celebrate because I only had maybe 3 months to live if I was lucky. It wasn’t a fun time.

Hey man i have talked to a couple of people who have recovered from end stage. They go into eating organic fruits and veggies while also taking serrapeptase which is an enzyme that eats away scars in the body. We do not produce this enzyme but it does not harm us either so. Give it a shot.

Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. One step at a time in the right direction you will eventually reach your goal or get closer to it. If you are continuing to progress in the right direction you are being successful. Stay the right path…. We take a lot of things for granted here in the West. Eastern philosophy Taoism practices the inner smile and giving thanks to our vital internal organs for letting us be alive. We don’t show gratitude for things like this. My former boss had a kidney transplant and later died of kidney failure. So look at your stomach and realize those organs are filtering your blood so you can live another day.

I don’t drink at all and I got end stage liver disease. Overnight I became a severe diabetic and within a year I had end stage. They say it’s from diabetes and high blood pressure. My dad died of the same thing. They say I have cryptogentic end stage. It’s really all too much for me. People don’t see me as sick and have the same expectations for me. It’s exhausting. I’m glad to find this video or any video from an actual patient. People need information. Also, I get treated like shit at the hospital because they assume I did this to myself. I had a male nurse ask me how long I’ve been sober and I said all my life. People don’t have to pay a price for having this. It doesn’t matter how you get it, people should just be treated humanely. It’s an any persons disease. I used to power walk 5 miles a day, very athletic. The worst thing is knowing that you have to “go” meanwhile your loved ones stay behind. I don’t want to leave my kids or family. I’m heartbroken. People don’t question the big belly because I just look very pregnant, but I’m not and acites looks like pregnant belly. My family is in denial.
My heart reaches out to you Andrea 💚. There are so many different challenges that never go noticed or that anyone is willing to talk about. It can be so scary and such an isolating disease because of the reputation that it has and the lack of Education about it. While mine is alcohol-induced I have spoken to many people who are in the exact opposite life boar but find themselves on the same ship. I have several other videos on my channel talking about all different kinds of things. Based on what you said there is a video titled "My body was about to explode" where I talk about hepatic encephalopathy and ascites. Stay strong and I know how hard it can be on family particularly who have to sit back and watch and feel so helpless.
When I sobered up the biggest reason was my liver was enlarged and I was sick all the time so I wanted to see if I felt better. Fortunately I was right on time as ever since then I have been just fine. I have a good friend who created a toxic environment in her abdomen by abusing Tylenol and it killed her liver she was down to a few percent when a transplant became available that was a perfect match.
Good luck to you, I also have hepatitis B & C (I was cured of C), including cirrhosis. I believe I contracted hepatitis from blood transfusions in Vietnam after being wounded severely. I also drank way too much, still drink but small amounts. So far, even though I am 73 I am hanging in there for now. Hope there will be treatment/transplants options for you. Peter

I just came across your video, and am so proud of you for making it , so there’s can be more aware of alcohol. I used alcohol after my divorce with my husband for 20 yrs as well . I ended up dating a guy who was a drinker, it was a party everyday . I had become what you’d call a functional alcoholic. Before you know it my blood work says 85%of my liver was swollen . At first I didn’t understand why my eyes were yellow , I kept using visine which stop working . I was still drinking until 1 day I had the most excruciating pain as if my pancreas or stomach lining was on fire. They gave me morphine injection , kept me for 2 days detox . I followed up with my doctor, he asked me if I want to stop drinking ? My answer was yes , I couldn’t bare that pain again. He prescribed me Naltrexone 50 mg, that saved my life. . I could no longer taste or enjoy the alcohol, it block that part of the brain . I had lots of kale and berries almond milk and berries shakes too, different diet . 6 yrs later now , am 50 yrs old at my best shape. Am at the gym 5 days a week , looking younger ,and feeling amazing , my liver is fine . There’s still hope my brother , again thank you for sharing with us 🥰🙏🏾🙏🏾

I was in the same situation as u stayed in the hospital 5 days got out went back days later and they gave me 2 months tops said nothing else could be done. I set up with hospice and set my funeral how I wanted it.and it got to the point I couldn't do anything but lay on a bed in my living room. And on top of that had rocky mountain spotted tick fever. And people that new me saw it wasn't going to be long. And it wasn't I passed and the lord had more plans for me. I came back too my wife said. And I stood up couldn't understand how its been nearly 2 years now. My males score was at nearly 40 now I am just recently down to a 13 .don't give up it tough I put my life in the lord's hands and he has made me a better person. I will have u in my prayers

Sober since 07-07-2008 after 10 years of living in a binge drinking drunk. A gallon of booze a day plus god only knows how many beers a day. I destroyed my life and everyones life around me. I lost everything materially and spiritually. AA and a lot of work has saved me one day at a time. Sometimes one minute at a time. There is help there is hope.

@@ecinaz my blood chemistry for both kidney and liver function as my doc says have made a huge comeback. Not perfect yet. He hasnt given me a percentage number. Wonder if that good???? Anyway it’s Still fatty and in need yearly test. (Blood/ultrasound/urine/fecal) I also need colonoscopy every 3-5 years not 10. So thats a pain in the ass. Lol. Its been fifteen years for me. So just not drinking has done wonders for my body. If you are struggling let me know always happy to help anyway i can.
I'm sorry for those who are addicted to alcohol. I've seen so many people decline from it. I am glad I don't like the Devil's water.
I went throw the same thing I was put in itu for 7 weeks with decompensated liver disease and was sent home on a end of life palative care I now going see my consultant every six mounth I haven't drank alcohol for 2 years but one day I will need a transplant for the grace of god I am still here

Alcoholic 50 yrs he was my best friend.
Came across your video accidentally and it hit home.
This past 15 months or so I have struggled more than at any point in my life. A year ago my relationship ended and several other things happened at once. I fell into a deep depression and absolutely nothing mattered anymore.
I had always drank socially but I started drinking vodka neat from the bottle. I would start around 7.30 am whilst getting ready for work. I would drink on the way to work 😩 and often arrived half drunk (I had only started a new job too).
Throughout the day I would pour vodka into a coke can and sip it. I'd drive home and drink until I passed out, then repeat. I didn't want to be alive and never considered the consequences of any of my actions. All I wanted was to block out the pain. If I woke up at 3am I'd have more to drink and go back to sleep. In short I was practically never sober for weeks on end and was eating only every few days.
I wanted so badly to commit suicide and made attempts but was too cowardly to see it through properly.
Eventually I started having pains in my liver area, went to hospital and was diagnosed with alcoholic gastritis. I was advised to stop drinking or at least cut away down and only drink a small amount once I had eaten. I was given some meds to help with the shakes.
I didn't take the advice, needed to drink so carried on with beer and wine and became worse. I was never fully aware of just how incredibly toxic alcohol is on the body until it ended up really affecting my health.
I experienced symptoms and changes in my body that I never realised drinking could cause.
My liver is now damaged and I feel quite ill most of the time I have cut way back and should not be drinking at all but still need to have a few beers a week even though I know its poisoning me which is crazy.
I feel so lonely and depressed and go from day to day just trying to keep my head above water. Life's tough and alcohol is such a terrible drug.

Have you tried AA? You could find friends there that understand and care.

I have fatty liver, was on the way to cirrhosis after falling off the wagon during the lockdowns and the pandemic. I drank myself to a stupor pretty much everyday for the last few years, I am on my way to almost a year now from not drinking. I am not going back, it is a poison that is socially acceptable.
You won’t always be an alcoholic. We should empower former alcoholics with hope of beating the disease. It might be something we have to fight for everyday, but everyday we win we are further from our alcoholic selves. If I’ve stopped letting alcohol control my life, I deserve to shed that insidious label

There's no such thing as a former alcoholic. Sober alcoholics are considered recovering alcoholics.

I’m just seeing this video. And it’s a very sobering one to watch. My wife of 20 years is a functioning alcoholic and drinks heavily everyday whiteclaw spiked seltzer drinks and vodka. She has a history of alcoholism in her family and so do I. I’m actually sober due to her abuse to be honest. She hasn’t been to a Dr in many years and has symptoms of something going on that she refuses to see what it is. The biggest let down is she’s requested a divorce now. While we’ve had some hard conversations about her drinking she’s not ready to seek help. She’s not very motivated to do anything at home she is pretty much competent at work. But I’m sure it’s not that great. I hope things work out for you I’ll pray. I’m going to watch the rest of your videos. Be well.
Thank you friend! It's a hard road and I understand the frustration. My significant other, she put up with a lot over 10 years and literally saved me on more than one occasion. Took care of me 100% after I was diagnosed and still worked full time. I wish you and your wife the best on your journey. 💚

Something she said to me that’s eye opening is that she said she’s tired of being tired of that makes sense. Just told me she just wants to be alone. I went in hospital at 45 years old, thank the Lord, because I was a mess, and my soul had been eroded. It's a horrible drug, and it does affect the people around you. My life was incredibly stressful, mainly trying to please everyone else, and failing at the most basic things. Again, a near death experience was quite handy to re-evaluate what was important to me. It was very serious. I quit drinking two days before I went into hospital, and I've never either touched any, or wanted any since. My family and my life after two and a bit years is the best it's ever been. According to the internet, I should either be dead already, according to other people, I can live until I'm 106. I'd recommend people go to their check ups, stop drinking, stop smoking tobacco, don't become a walrus, and don't sit and worry about when your next event is going to happen. Enjoy life, and you'll enjoy it much better without this idiotic legalised product, dressed up in fancy colours and names, which ruins millions of lives the World over. My husband died suddenly five years ago. On autopsy, an aneurysm was discovered, which had burst, causing death by internal bleeding (painless). The ME told me my husband was likely born with the aneurysm, and it was a blessing that he didn't know it was there, as it was inoperable.
On his Death Certificate, there was a second diagnosis listed, and that was cirrhosis of the liver. It estimated that he would've died in 2 months from the cirrhosis, had the unrelated aneurysm not killed him first.
I was shocked! He had no symptoms whatsoever of liver problems, let alone cirrhosis advanced enough that he had 2 months to live on the day he died. Sounds weird, I know.
The liver is an amazing organ, a powerhouse that can be so damaged, but there're not always symptoms.

Lost my sister to non-alcohol related cirrhosis 1/8/22...wouldn't wish her back under the current conditions America's experiencing now...& of course she'd already let me know she was ready to leave this earth to begin with well before then. Hope you are holding up.

My Mother has Cirrhosis and liver failure She had to take a strong laxative to get rid of Toxins. She had Horrible Fluid Retention. And they told my father and myself they didn't think She was going to make it her first visit to the ER She had so much fluid it was Around her Heart Which is Congestive Heart Failure. I watched her go through the Withdrawal Which is pretty much DTs Without the Ts cause they give Ativan to keep the Tremors at Bay. But She had horrible Delirium. Her Eyes Were Big and Wide and She looked Scared to Death. When She came home She Would Start acting off and We could tell She had Encephalopathy. Took her to ER She Also had Pneumonia. She also had a rare lung disease called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. She was Sober for 2 and a half Years She Fought so hard and took full responsibility for her condition. She was going to get a liver Transplant. But She Died Suddenly and only 63 Years old that was 10 and a half Years Ago. I Miss Her So Much every day and Will till my last Breath God Bless You Sir I hope Your getting Well. You look Well.
I'm deeply sorry for the loss of your mother. It's an awful disease in every way. I have a very long way to go that the camera doean't always show but I just want to try to give/make something that I couldn't find it access back in 2021.

Maybe this will be too strange to hear but my 70 year old alcoholic aunt tried to wind the grandfather clock and it fell on top of her!! She managed to crawl out from under it and call for help. My father went over and stood the thing up. The experience did not stop her from drinking…but guess where she finally died?! In front of the grandfather clock!!! I kid you not!!! A message from God that she did not heed because she had gone to a 2 week inpatient detox that did not last.
Lost my nephew at 37 due to alcohol. Admitted to hospital with organ failure died within 15 hours.

I lost both of my parents to alcoholic cirrhosis. My mom made it 8 years after dx’d and truly suffered. It was horrible! She became septic from the ascites and passed in 2011. Last year, my Dad was dx’d and in 3 weeks was gone. Mom was 51 and Dad was 63.

People have no idea how common this is. I will be ten years abstinent this month. Many continue on to drink themselves to death. The medical community sees this every day.
May I be so naïve to ask you how much you drank, what did you drink, when did you drink, duration, exercise, ? I am 55- been drinking since 16 and went to college, fraternity, wall street etc....I have been binge drinking since 16 and daily since covid (March 2020), not hard stuff, mostly wine, beers, occasionally vodka ( not that it matters). I am scared- I have been through a lot - no excuse, but need to know -
I drank for about 20 years and towards the end it was necessary for me to even stay alive and avoid extreme withdrawals. I was a vodka drinker and would drink typically 2 pints a day. Obviously I didn't start out with that much but towards the end that was about the standard. But I didn't stop at that point sometimes and often would go more if I didn't have to work. I was extremely healthy working in an administrative management role and then going into Hospitality management. I was always in charge of other people and was very successful but my personal life was a disaster.

@@halfcentury1112Go to your general physician, be completely honest about your drinking and tell your physician why you are concerned and that you want a liver function panel. Don't let your doctor talk you out of it either, it's just a simple blood draw. The doctor can also do a liver fibrosis test, very easy. Tells you all you need to know.

@@Belleamia yes, it's called your MELD score. I have a video on my RUclips channel about it specifically. It's also on my FB group page (link in the description). I go over what is used to determine your score and reccomend apps that calculate it for you. The formula is a bit complex but the apps do the work. I'm not a medical professional and can't diagnose but these are things/tools that were reccomended to me.
go check out the use of infrared light to help your liver recover, it'll be very helpful for you to boost blood flow, improve ATP production and reduce inflammation, without side effects.
A buddy of mine would sip Vodka all day @ work (blue collar trade) 7 years later @41 years old, it all turned. Kidney & liver failure, 2 weeks later, dead. He looked normal, you never know...
