  • ...Plus, I'm finishing the double faced linen knit shorts! What do you do when you have a large scrap of knit (none of it is the full width of the fabric)??? Make a top that's constructed from a few smaller pieces! Join me for a look back at the first pattern I ever designed, The Tee. See how I adjusted it as my body changed sizes and shapes. Plus, a few different neckline options. Then I'm going to put the pieces together to make a new top to go with my linen knit shorts! .... The print is very cool! It has some slimming vertical stripes and a colorful abstract design that has ORANGE in it!! WAY out of my color comfort zone, but I'm going for it!

    Jen Fab Fit Friday just rolls off the tongue, as the other would be too many Fs and I would never be able to remember what they stood for 😂If you wanted to make an easy piping between the seams you could cut a long strip and fold it in half wrong sides together and insert it into the seam as a faux piping. Eager to see which options you decide to go with.

      :) Agreed! Three Fs are enough!! I love faux piping... After I cut out the lower bodice pieces, I thought to myself... should have kept it simple with a one piece front/back... :))) While having lots of pieces to play with, I think this print is a little too busy to play with different horizontal & bias directions! Stay tuned, I'm hoping to finish up today, thanks for watching

    I love all the details in your shorts. They really draw your eye to all the work you've put into them. You're so creative!
    Is your knit linen a 2-way or 4-way stretch fabric? If 2-way, with the drawstrings cut on the cross-grain, that accounts for all the stretch. If you cut it on the lengthwise grain, you wouldn't get all that stretch. However, if it's a 4-way stretch knit, it wouldn't matter if it was cut on either grain, there would be lots of stretch. Stretch was also incorporated into the drawstring by serging it together with a seam that inherantly provides stretch.
    Enclosing the top of your pocket in the waistband will give it the support it needs at the top. You've already provided achoring in your topstitching, but the waistband will make it extra secure. The pocket bag appears to be made from a woven. I guess you choose that due to the welt pocket feature.
    Can't wait to see your finished Tee!

      Thanks Judy! I did cut the drawstring across the width of the fabric going with the stretch (because I didn't have enough vertical length to cut it in that direction... vertical only has mechanical stretch)... The pocket bags are a wonderful, soft silk charmuse... I chose that because I wanted a really light weight fabric for no show through. I'm going to be finishing up these shorts this week... It's been a pleasure to slow down and work on them a little bit at a time so I could pay attention to each detail as I progressed along! Finished the Tee & I'm surprised at how much I love it (It's a "little" busy for my plain Jane tendencies!) Thanks for catching the replay!

    Why does the pattern have a side front piece? Why not have the front yoke as one piece? Just curious as this is an area where I need to make adjustments. ( hollow upper chest).

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 месяца назад

      That is how I decided to design this top... Having side and center front pieces above the bust gives you lots of creative possibilities for color blocking or playing with stripes going in different directions... and to combine the side and center front to make a one piece front yoke!! Is there somewhere where you sewed the drawstring? I don't want to cover clothesline anymore and I'm looking for a different method.

      Yes! Thank you for asking... I shared how I make the drawstring while sharing this week's cool tool.. The EZY-Pull Bodkin from Dritz. Here's a link to it! ruclips.net/video/JoKwy4ZRY98/видео.html Thanks for watching

    You just slash and spread the front piece only?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  2 месяца назад

      To "relax the fit" I slashed and spread both the front and back pieces 1" to give myself 4" of extra ease around the hem... I also straighten the side seams to relax the waistline! Thanks for watching
