    The thing I love about this scene is later on the cap at that timeline says he spots Loki disguised as him so the Hydra guys would just think "OH Loki fooled us"

      So SHIELD had a prison camp for supervillains, where their personalities and memories were unethically rewritten into being peaceful citizens by a girl who was a living Cosmic Cube (because comics). At the time, Cap was ageing rapidly due to the super-soldier serum breaking down, and was semi-retired. When things went to crap at the camp, he was trying to protect the girl and got beaten to a pulp as a result.
      She altered him to regain his youth and strength, which seemed like a good thing at the time, but she had also, under the influence of the Red Skull, rewritten his memory so that he was a deep-cover HYDRA agent. The line comes from when that deception was finally revealed.
      It ended with Evil Cap taking over America in a blunt alt-right analogy and eventually being beaten by Classic Cap, recreated from the memories of the living Cosmic Cube.

      @bobsandwich3431 6 месяцев назад +2

      He was never a yes man soldier. He defied orders and snuck behind enemy lines to rescue Barnes in the first avenger. Steve didn't change greatly as a character. It's the fact that he didn't change despite the world changing around him and everyone telling him he had to in the modern world. He stuck by his morals even when though they were too black and white for the modern world in the eyes of the government.
